It seems the release date for Shania Twain's "Greatest Hits" collection has been moved up. According to the Fanclub news posted on various message boards, her "Greatest Hits" cd will now be released on November 9 in North America. *It will apparently be released on November 8 everywhere else.* The following is what was said in the fan club news. Now that the tour is over, Iβm sure everyone has been wondering where they are going to get more Shania over the next few months. Shania will be releasing a Greatest Hits album in November. The album will be released on November 9th in North America and November 8th everywhere else. Stay tuned to the fan club for more details.lounge.teamshania.com/showthread.php?t=5142

The tracklisting probably won't be out for a little while. I don't think the real tracklisting for "Up!" was even released until a week or two before the album came out. That will probably be the same situation here.

the top-selling hits compilation in the USA through year's end. Here are Shania's Hot 100 hits, to see what will make the cut and what won't:
Any Man of Mine Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under (If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here The Woman in Me (Needs the Man in You) God Bless the Child Love Gets Me Every Time Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You) You're Still the One From This Moment On That Don't Impress Me Much Man! I Feel Like a Woman You've Got a Way Come on Over I'm Gonna Getcha Good! Up Forever and For Always She's Not Just a Pretty Face
In addition, she's had the following country hits (that didn't chart on the Hot 100): What Made You Say That Dance With the One That Brought You You Win My Love No One Needs to Know Home Ain't where His Heart Is (Anymore) Honey I'm Home
And, When You Kiss Me may not have been a radio reelase, but it's gotten decent video play.
So, it looks like this could be an interesting compilation- many tracks to choose from. I do hope some acknowledgement is given to some of the country hits that didn't cross over (i.e. You Win My Love, No One Needs to Know- both #1 country hits).

I'm sure every single from The Woman in Me to Up! will make the cut, Shania wouldn't have it any other way. The only question I have is whether Mercury will force her to acknowledge her debut hits, "What Made You Say That", "Dance With The One That Brought You", and "You Lay A Whole Lotta Love On Me" since they were not "hits" or written by Twain. the top-selling hits compilation in the USA through year's end So you think this will be the #1 selling Greatest Hits in 2004? I sure hope so!

I have little doubt this will be the top-selling GH album through year's end; Britney Spears should do OK, but Shania has wider appeal (and better music, not that that matters much, though, in terms of commercial prospects). Remember how the Backstreet Boys' GH didn't sell like their studio efforts did.
Every hit from The Woman in Me? That would be cool, as I don't have that album (but I like all the releases from it). Is that Shania's favorite album of hers?
If it's going to be a single CD, there probably will be 15-17 hits, and then the 3 new tracks.

Hot 100 chart ranks are not relevant for almost half of her singles.Β The reason the other #1 and top singles listed from "The Woman In Me" era could not chart there is that country airplay was not included by Billboard in their Hot 100 algorithm at the time...Β and was not until 1998.Β YSTO was the first single of her career to have its country airplay measured for the Hot 100.

the first of her hits to appear under Billboard's revamped methodology in late 1998; YSTO had already charted early in 1998- it got great play at top 40, Adult Top 40 and AC- plus, it had a commercial single. And, I was aware of country radio not being part of the Hot 100 panel until late 1998. The ones that didn't cross over may not have had commercial singles. You Min My Love, did bubble under the Hot 100, at 108.

If it's going to be a single CD, there probably will be 15-17 hits, and then the 3 new tracks. You need to get TWIM. It's one of Shania's best! Very traditional, yet revolutionary. There is a major rumor that this is going to be a double-cd package.

There is a major rumor that this is going to be a double-cd package. I hope so... almost needs to be, with all the big hits from her previous three albums, and likely a couple of new songs included. For some of her remixed-for-pop crossover hits, I wonder which version will be included here? I'll probably buy this.

of the pop peaks for the hits:
Any Man...: #31 Whose Bed... (was B-side, but attaiend its own peak, as it was listed as the A-side later in the chart run): #87 If You're Not In It...: #74 Love Gets Me Every Time: #25 Don't Be Stupid...: #40
Minor thing: Didn't Forever and For Always peak at 19 pop?
Come On Over peaked at #58 on the Hot 100.

I can't see her putting more than 5 or 6 songs from any of her CDs on the GHs. It would seem rather pointless to me.

I wonder if the UK tracklisting will differ? 'When' was a hit here, and only the tracks from 'Come On Over' & 'Up!' were hits.

I can't see her putting more than 5 or 6 songs from any of her CDs on the GHs. It would seem rather pointless to me. I disagree. Esp. in the case of COO there were so many hits that 5-6 would leave out some great stuff. If this GH is to be done right, all the singles should be included, excluding her debut album. I wonder if the UK tracklisting will differ? 'When' was a hit here, and only the tracks from 'Come On Over' & 'Up!' were hits. I expect the tracklisting to be different for Europe b/c the singles were different. Esp. in UP!, while NA got SNJAPF, UP, IOHWIB, Europe got Ka-Ching, Thank You Baby, and When You Kiss Me. Also, When was released over there. Again, for this to be done right, a different tracklisting should be released to Europe and the UK.

I've noticed you've all left out that "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing" made #71 on the Billboard Hot 100

Most likely: first column is the release date, second the weeks on the chart, third is the peak position?
I think it was said somewhere, that the album will contain all her #1s, which means country of course and she had 7 of them.

A GH with only 7 previously recorded songs to me would be a waste of time considering she has had over 25 charted singles.

FYI- I forgot to include It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing among her Hot 100 hits. Definitely one of the highlights of Up! though it may not make the GH album.
Shania indeed has sold more than enough to warrant killing her catalog sales. :)
I doubt every track will be included, so if it's gonna be a one-disc release, some will have to be sacrificed.

I would put every single on the album except the 3 from the first album, "Home Ain't Where His Heart Is", "God Bless The Child", "Don't Be Stupid", "Rock This Country", and "I'm Holdin' On To Love".Β That's 18 hits and tack on two new tracks for a nice total of 20.

the same worldwide tracklisting, but that seems to be a rare practice.
Don't Be Stupid... probably will be on there; I lik the idea of 20 tracks, TCorey. I could see a few of those others you mentioned not being on there, but Rock This Country could get included for reasons mentioned.
I'm looking forward to this collection.
