Next single. Straight from Carrie herself, via a radio interview with KYGO.
This makes the third Carrie co-write to be released as a single in the Carnival Ride album era.
ETA: Confirmed! Sent out to radio via Play MPE. Goes for adds April 7th.
Last Name (Carrie Underwood, Hillary Lindsey, Luke Laird)
*spoil, if you wish*
Last night, I got served a little bit too much of that poison, baby Last night, I did things I'm not proud of And I got a little crazy Last night, I met a guy on the dance floor and I let him call me baby
[Chorus:] And I don't even know his last name My momma would be so ashamed It started off, "hey cutie where you from" And then it turned into "oh no, what have I done" And I don't even know his last name
We left, the club, 'bout around 3 o'clock in the morning His Pinto, sitting there, in the parking lot, well it should have been a warning I had no clue what I was getting into So, I'll blame it on the Cuervo Oh where did my manners go?
[Chorus:] I don't even know his last name Oh my momma would be so ashamed It started off, "hey cutie where you from" And then it turned into "oh no, what have I done" And I don't even know his last name
Here we go
Today, I woke up, thinking about Elvis somewhere in Vegas I'm not sure how I got here Or how this ring on my left hand just appeared outta nowhere I gotta go take the chips and the Pinto and hit the road They say what happens here, stays here, all of this will disappear
There's just one little problem
[Chorus:] I don't even know my last name Oh my momma would be so ashamed It started off, "hey cutie where you from" And then it turned into "oh no, what have I done" And I don't even know my last name
What have I done What have I done What have I done
Oh, what have I done I don't even know my last name
Well it turned into, oh no what have I done And I don't even know my last name Yea, Yeah, Yeah
I don't even know my last name It started off "hey cutie where you from" And then it turned into, oh no what have I done And I don't even know my last name Oh, yeah

Yeah! Can't wait to see where they take this for the video! I predict lots of fun and hopefully something different to keep us guessing!

Not that I don't believe you or that this song would be the next single but do you have a link to her saying it or an article in which it is reported?

Good choice for a single, I think.

^Same here. i believe you too, but i always like physical proof before i get all excited or discouraged.
well if this is right, and i am sure it is, then i am VERY happy!!! I knew she would go with this next, followed by "Just A Dream" and "Flat On The Floor"! this is a great song and will no doubt be another #1 hit for Carrie. I CANT WAIT FOR THIS VIDEO from someone other than Roman White of course (but i doubt that will happen)

Yeah, I understand the need for a source. I'm the same way. The cap of the radio interview was posted on CF, which is down at the moment. As soon as I get it, I'll post it right away.
ETA: Apparently, I'm one of a few who can't get on CF at all. Looks like no one was able to cap the interview though so we'll have to wait for a podcast. For what its worth, quite a number of reliable people heard Carrie say it.

Very good choice. Not that anything she released wouldn't be massive, but I think this will be an extra big hit, even by her standards. #1 for at least 4 weeks, and will probably be this album's pop hit.

This makes the third Carrie co-write to be released as a single in the Carnival Ride album era. Hmm didn't see that one coming.... IMO, Last Name and Just a Dream are the most obvious single choices from the album. LN would have been a sure single, regardless of who had written it. And JAD, which it's safe to say is most likely the 4th single, is not a co-write. Crazy Dreams, her 4th and last co-write on the album, will probably not see the light of "single" day. Personally, this is the first single from the CR era that I wholeheartedly approve of from the get-go. It took me a while to approve of So Small (helped by time) and All-American Girl (helped by the video). This one... I always crank up on my iPod and have a blast with.

I really, really, really hope Roman White doesn't end up directing this video. Time for a change.

This is the 2nd best song on the cd (behind "Flat on the Floor") so its not the song I necessarily have a problem with. It's the order of the singles that was making me roll my eyes. The first too were released (in my opinion) to try and help promote her songwriting, then they release a song that should have been the lead single while again pushing her songwriting angle at the same time.

I don't think "Last Name" would've made a good lead single, although I do agree that it's a better song than "So Small." "So Small" covers a broader theme than "Last Name" does, which is why I think it was a good choice for the lead single. I would also say "Before He Cheats" is the best song on her debut album, but it would have been risky to release that as her debut single. It could have put her in a Gretchen Wilson type situation.

Hot "Before He Cheats" rip-off! I was hoping for "Just a Dream" - a song with that kind of story/lyrics needs to be heard!

I agree that BHC wouldn't have been a good lead single for the first album. But that could be because I didn't really care for the song either. But since she is already established (unlike Gretchen) I think it would have done well. But again may be its because I don't really care for SS either.

If this is indeed the 3rd single, I too think that the next 2 singles should be JUST A DREAM and FLAT ON THE FLOOR

My favorite part of the song is "I don't even know MY last name." Too funny.
It's a good enough song. Pretty decent. I prefer Flat On The Floor but I guess this would probably do better commercially. I don't understand the BHC Part 2 references. The melody isn't similar. The lyrics are not remotely similar.
I've given up on hoping someone other Roman White would direct her videos. As much as I love Reba, I didn't even vote for him with Because Of You in the CMT awards because I don't want his reign as the go-to director in country music to last any longer than it has to.

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!!!
I am so happy they are going with this over 'Flat on the Floor'!! I wonder why she didn't sing this on SNL then, to set it up as the next single?! I hope the video turns out to be awesome!

I think after this, "I Know You Won't" has GOT to be released. It's easily her best vocal performance ever.

This was just sent out to radio via Play MPE (and by "just," I mean within the last 15-20 minutes). Goes for adds April 7th, although I'm sure it will be close to the top 20 by then.
I guess this means we'll have a battle between Kenny/George and Alan for #1 next week.

wow i guess that means they dont care how much longer "All-American Girl" gets at #1. maybe they just wanted to send it to radio on her b-day? i dont know but i dont see why they are leaving "AAG" when it could be #1 for 2 more weeks! it doesnt look like it now
GREAT NEWS that this is 100% official though! i am stoked!

My favorite part of the song is "I don't even know MY last name." Too funny. Yes, that part just about makes the song for me. I don't understand the BHC Part 2 references. The melody isn't similar. The lyrics are not remotely similar. I think it's the idea that in both songs, Carrie plays against type in a first person narrative, and that both songs are midtempo rockers with a touch of bluesy feel to them. I also think one could argue a loose structural similarity in the first verse of each song (something that disappears after the first verse, and in any case, the melody and lyrics are quite different throughout). But I agree that the feel and mood of the two songs are different (again, thanks to the melody and lyrics), the choruses are different, the bridges are different, etc. I've given up on hoping someone other Roman White would direct her videos. As much as I love Reba, I didn't even vote for him with Because Of You in the CMT awards because I don't want his reign as the go-to director in country music to last any longer than it has to. Ditto. I don't have high expectations of the video with Roman White likely to helm it. But I do hope that Carrie continues to have fun with and poke fun at her good-girl image through the video. Oh, and I hope that the little Elvis hip-shake Carrie has been doing in concert during the song makes it into the video and any televised performances of this song. Thanks to leilamaurizia for the word and to rowdawg21 for the confirmation. Good choice, I think. I've really been enjoying Carrie's live performances of the song.

My guess is that 'AAG' is not helping with album sales and they can't watch Carnival Ride slip below #50 on the album chart. 'Last Name' is a sure-fire hit and is almost guaranteed to get people to pick up the album. Plus, I am assuming the label is hoping/expecting this to crossover to Pop which will also boost those sales.
