I would see that if "BAAM" simply had a bigger bullet and passed "LN," but "LN" has dramatically fallen in spins despite only being out for 3-4 months. Where's the dramatic drop? Did you see my earlier post with the comparison to Every Day by Rascal Flatts? 1200 is a dramatic drop. 250 is not.

That drop for 'Last Name' is rather moderate; the plunge for 'Every Day' is very dramatic.
When a song plunges 1,000+ spins in a single week ('Somebody', 'High Maintenance Woman', & 'Stays In Mexico' immediately come to mind), then the use of the word 'dramatic' is totally appropriate.

Good attitude -- this is all about fun. Those people who enjoy numbers and projecting chart runs are at home here. It isn't science, and chartwatching can't be taken very seriously because the data aren't trustworthy. In the 1980's, for instance, the charts were based on radio stations submitting their playlists. Which they faked like crazy. That's why songs back then climbed 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 and then dropped out of the top 10 immediately -- because the radio stations were reporting fake info. Doesn't really bother me. I accept that the charts were to some extent bogus, but also it isn't a coincidence (or a sign of fraud) that Merle Haggard, George Strait, and Conway Twitty were getting lots of #1 songs. Nowadays the eletronic tracking prevents that kind of fixing, but there are always going to be some bogus elements to charts, at least as long as somebody thinks there's money involved. The idea that a given song might "deserve" to be #1 is subjective. If you go from thread to thread, you see people's divergent ideas about which songs deserve what. I recognize that there are people alive, on this planet, right now, who are going to think that Bob That Head "deserved" to be #1 and will be disappointed if it doesn't get there. I'm delighted to be sharing the planet with them. In fact, I'd have a beer with many of them. Last Name barely reached #1 on Billboard -- I think it beat labelmate Paisley's song by 57k in audience. (Another example of suspect chart data, but that's the way it is.) And it got there with the lowest total audience number since Christmastime. But it got there, and that's all that matters. Everybody who's upset that it didn't get 4 weeks can pair off with somebody who's distressed that it got there at all, and go have a good cry. Very good points, Zazie... I remember looking at the Country chart back in the 1980's and early 1990's most especially and seeing the drops from 1-14 or 1-15 and thinking this just isn't right... yes, the charts have come a long way. The main thing for me is that "Last Name" did get to #1, even if for just a week it made it!

Seems like John's attitude is the best one to have -- not that many people can get their songs to #1, or the top 10, or anywhere on the chart. A one-week #1 isn't the greatest result for a Carrie fan, but it did get there, there's no going back and changing it, and you might as well celebrate. Her successes are amazing.
You could be, like me, a fan of Leslie Satcher, who probably won't ever chart at all (except as a songwriter). I love her music as much as y'all love Carrie's, and I would be so ecstatic about a one-week #1, or a one-week #40, that the board would never be the same afterwards.

I should probably apologize to all the Carrie fans and take full responsibility for this NOT being a multi-week # 1. I rather enjoyed this tune and figure that that alone threw off the galactic balance of the charts. Umm , sorry y'all. Oh , and Since my Girl Leslie was brought up, go check out this link Zazie. It has about half a dozen tunes from her that aint on either of her records...dunno if there just demos or what not.... www.garageband.com/artist/LeslieSatcher

Down to #4 on Mediabase. I guess no more chances of returning to #1. Lol. :( Oh well, it went #1!

Seriously it got to #1 most artists don't even get a top 10 hit. The fact is I think the theme of the song some country listeners probably didn't like.

That drop for 'Last Name' is rather moderate; the plunge for 'Every Day' is very dramatic. "ED" has been dropping for weeks. "LN" just went to #1 recently. And it's drop is getting bigger each day.

This coming Saturday will mark the third successive week of declining spins for Rascal Flatts at both BB & Country Aircheck/Mediabase, which means they'll be going recurrent @ Country Aircheck come midnight (EDT) on Saturday, as will 'I'm Still A Guy'.
If the current number holds, it would become the first song to lose 1,200+ spins in a single week.
'Last Name' goes recurrent a week from Saturday @ Country Aircheck.
