Yeah I've heard both, that she's too busy and that she has too high or 'morals'. I love Carrie to death, but if she can talk the talk in songs, she should have the backbone to walk the walk in the videos. Regardless, I'm sure Last Name will be an AMAZING video given she actually changes directors finally. ;;) Mind sharing a source on both claims (i.e., that Carrie will play narrator in the video rather than the lead and that she is changing directors, unless the latter was sarcastic)? Thanks. Yeah, I'm curious about the source too. I haven't seen that rumor in any of my usual Carrie hangouts and heaven knows I visit a lot of them. It's very unhealthy, but keeps me sane :) The rumor sounds a bit iffy to me (which is not a knock on you, crox :) )

Well there ARE other skins available. And besides, THIS is the absolute worst color to read. i didnt realize there was an invisible color. why isnt it in the color text box? Probably because it's not a main color. In case you didn't catch it by quoting me, the color code is "ebebeb" - technically not invisible, just the color of PMB's default background. But anyways, back to Carrie.

Ebebeb! I've always wondered how people do that. Thanks, S4C! I'm gonna use that.
*editing first post*
So as not to make this a completely useless post.... LN's release just put the nail on the A-AG coffin. That one's done. Why would a label hasten the demise of its own #1 single that is still climbing? Curious stuff. That's mostly a rhetorical question though, as there have already been interesting answers in previous pages (and I already have an answer I've convinced myself is right, haha!).

At least you spent the time to put a slash through that, which I thank you for.

I don't get why everyone thinks "Carnivale Ride" will have 5 singles. I mean "Some Hearts" didn't and it was still selling incrediblely well. Same with Rascal Flatts and most country artists who only release 4 singles. A few do end up releasing 5 singles off of an album so it could happen with this album but is no way a guarentee. I know this is a bit late but "Some Hearts" had 6 singles if you think about it. The two people always don't mention are "Some Hearts" and "Inside Your Heaven." I know "IYH" was only for Idol, but still, and "SH" was only for pop, but still, they were singles. The radio did play them, sure not as well as her #1's, but still.

^Well, yes & no. I'll grant you SH (being released to top 40 & AC at the same time JTTW went to country), but IYH is technically not part of SH. It's just a bonus track slapped on at the end of the album. They force the Idol winner to release that song (and some people are going to buy that album because of that song) but Idol always makes it clear that the song is a bonus track and technically isn't part of the album.

I was talking about SH having 4 singles to country radio so I didn't include "Some Hearts". Now that I think about it I think it is very likely they will release 5 singles from "Carnivale Ride" because the are moving very quickly with single releases so there will be time to release a 5th single. Hopefully my other favourite artist Rascal Flatts ends up releasing 5 singles as well since they are already on their 3rd and the album was only released 1 month before Carrie's.

Not to play conspiracy theorist here, but I find it interesting that Carrie's new single is being practically rush-released to radio. Why?, because the person with the most to gain from AAG spins being cut into is...Carrie's label mate Alan Jackson, who it now looks like will take over at #1 next week. You suppose Carrie's people were asked to "take one for the team" to ensure that the senior member of Arista's roster hit the top? AAG only spending 2 weeks at #1 won't hurt CR's album sales at all, but getting STSM to #1 may help AJ's, so it's possible that's what is going on here.

This is the first single choice off this album that I've been happy about. It's not that I don't like the first two songs (because I do), but there are lots of better choices for singles, IMO. Yes, her singles have done well on radio, so what do I know, but I can't help wonder if she'd be selling more albums with different choices.
I will be disappointed if Carrie narrates the video instead of playing the character herself.

^i completely agree. i dont think that "All-American Girl" should have been released second because i dont think that it helped out album sales as much as LN, FOTF, and JAD would have. i do think that "So Small" was a great first single though.
before AAG was released i thought it would go like this with or without the 6th single 1. So Small 2. Last Name 3. Just A Dream 4. All-American Girl 5. Flat On The Floor 6. You Won't Find This

What's the prediction on how fast this song will get to #1? 10 weeks? 11? What songs are ahead of it that might provide a little roadblock? I see nothing to stop Taylor Swift from reaching number one in a few weeks, so fortunately that song will be on the way down by the time Carrie reaches the top 10. Any stumbling blocks along the way? Rascal Flatts? Brad Paisley? I really don't see anyone in front of Carrie right now who can stop "Last Name" from steamrolling its way straight to the top of the charts.
That's an interesting theory about the Alan Jackson song. I've been wondering something. In the overall scheme of things, is it more important for a record to spend as many weeks in the #1 spot as possible, or is it sufficient for the song simply to reach the #1 spot, even if it drops out the next week? Any thoughts? Thank you!

Unless the songs gets up in the 5-6 week range, then the only week that counts is the first one. People remember the songs that spend 5+ weeks at the top, but anything short of that I don't really think it matters. You remember that it went to #1 and that's about it. That's just my opinion though.

For a Carrie song, this isn't exploding like I expected. I mean, yeah, it's rising at a pretty good rate. But it only gained .29 audience since yesterday's update on C1r. I was expecting .5-1 million gains a day for these first few weeks.
I guess the add date and AAG still impacting relatively hard are both [possibly] affecting LN's early rise.

^ yeah AAG is still going strong- and it should, really- because it is so new that people aren't sick of it yet. I wish they had waited a few more weeks to release LN. but once it picks up steam-- it will fly up the charts.

You also have to remember that a lot of stations won't add a song late in the week, which is when "Last Name" was sent out. I'm guessing it will really start to pick up beginning with Tuesday's Mediabase update. Edit: I don't know what I was thinking here. "Last Name" was sent out on a Monday.

'All-American Girl' had lost it's bullet before 'Last Name's' designation as the new single, and it lost upwards of a million AIs over the past 24 hours at Mediabase.
I certainly don't see anything stopping 'Last Name' from breezing to #1 right around Father's Day, following visits to #1 for Trace Adkins, George Strait, Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts & Brad Paisley, all of whom figure to finish among the top ten singles artists of 2008, although Mr. Adkins appears to be right on the edge of doing so.

'All-American Girl' had lost it's bullet before 'Last Name's' designation as the new single.. I respectfully disagree. From my "records", A-AG was still gaining spins and audience and hadn't peaked yet. When LN was announced as the next single and released to radio (late 3/10), that was when A-AG started dropping. The Tuesday morning update (3/11) on Mediabase actually showed a +21 spins, +0.199 gain for A-AG. The Wednesday morning update was the first time in its run that A-AG lost AIs with a +9 spins, -0.38 difference from the previous day. It then lost 2.287 million AIs since then. LN killed A-AG. There's no going around it. Carrie's sacrifice paid off in a quasi-karmic way though. The same week she "took one for the team," as kw9461 puts it, she got invited to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry. That helps a lot in me getting over the hara-kiri :)

I won't really mind it at all if Carrie releases future singles this quickly, if it means that more of her terrific songs will be released to radio. I feel that the longer it takes to release singles, the fewer will be put on the radio. Since I have no vested interest in whether this particular album sells any more or not, my only interest NOW is to build Carrie's library of Radio Singles. The more songs she has available for radio stations to play, the more I will hear her when listening to the radio. That's my feeling anyway.

'Last Name' could not have killed 'All-American Girl' because 'Small Town Southern Man' overtook 'AAG' on Wednesday at Country Aircheck, and has been on top ever since.
The two Mediabase reporters which added 'Last Name' before KYGO announced its release didn't dump 'All-American Girl' either; their combined playlists for that previous week showed a net loss of one spin for 'AAG' while spinning 'Last Name' sixteen times between them.
By the time that the other nine Mediabase reporters started playing 'Last Name' (7 spins minimum for the week) and reducing the number of spins for 'AAG', 'STSM' was continuing to gain spins throughout the entire week, and it continues to do so.

I have to agree with leila on this one. "All-American Girl" had a gain of 1.358 last week, which would seem to indicate that it still had more room for growth. Songs just don't go from gaining 1.3 million one week to losing over 2 million the next week. Also, "All-American Girl" had a gain of 200k on Tuesday's Mediabase update despite "Last Name" being sent to radio on Monday. I think it's pretty clear that most stations dropped "All-American Girl" only after "Last Name" was sent out to radio.
Marv - Wouldn't it make sense that "Small Town Southern Man" overtook "All-American Girl" by Wednesday since "Last Name" was sent out to radio on Monday?
