As always I bow to the supreme wisdom of 43dudleyvillas, and I thank her for showing me the straight and narrow path. I have never heard of DJ General, but it doesn't sound good. I will post no further on this subject and will eagerly await along with the rest of you the release of Carrie's next single. I didn't mean to cause trouble. Again 43dudleyvillas has shown why she is our noble forum monitor. and I defer to her authority.

i hope Carrie gets at least 2 more weeks at #1. what happened? she had an AMAZING gain last week and now just this little bit? that doesn't make sense!
and the extra countdown spin doesn't always come in hand, like this week when it didn't help Brad.
If Kenny does get to #1 this week, i will be very upset. but hopefully Carrie can regain the thrown at #1 if she does fall short this week

I wouldn't be surprised to see Carrie and Kenny go back and forth at #1 for a few weeks. Their songs have been neck and neck for most of their chart runs, so why stop now?

and the extra countdown spin doesn't always come in hand, like this week when it didn't help Brad. It helped him. He almost stayed at #1 one more week because of it, and it came down to the wire.

Hee! I was thinking "Sudden attack of the Swedish Chef" or "Fell asleep at the keyboard" before I realized he was talking about Dierks Bentley's " Free and Easy ( Down the Road I Go)."

Chesney's at #1 on the Real Tiime Tracker at 8:30 Saturday. I wouldn't have expected that, until I saw how close the two songs were as of Thursday.
This looks like two very close weeks in a row. It's nice to have some suspense on the charts....

Will "LN" even get that extra spin? Isn't it from being #1 the week before? DId "LN" move to #1 on the Country Countdown last week?

Blake Shelton might have something to say about it. He has knocked out the superstars before so they might want to keep an eye on him.

Kenny's still at number one this morning. This is all exciting. While I usually pull for Carrie, I'm pulling for Kenny this week since Carrie is already guaranteed at least one week at number one. But most importantly because the quicker Kenny gets to number one, the sooner he'll drop and stations will give a few spins to his other song in the top 20.
What will really be interesting is if he gets number one this week, what happens next week. Since both Carrie and Kenny will have gotten to number one, how will their respective labels respond? And how will Blake fit into the picture.

I don't know if Blake can squeeze in a week at number 1 or not. Carrie and Kenny will be ruling the top for a while and Montgomery Gentry and Alan are really gaining.

2 questions: 1. does the song thats #1 at midnite on real time tracker have to be #1 on the next chart ? 2. is the cutoff midnite eastern tonite ?....cause it still only 9:00pm pacific time then.

No, the song that is #1 on the Real-Time Tracker is not always the song that is #1. Just last week, Brad Paisley's "I'm Still A Guy" was #1 on the Tracker when it reset; however, Carrie's "Last Name" ended up being #1 on the official Billboard/R&R chart. The Tracker resets at 1:00 A.M. Eastern (12:00 A.M. Central). There are a couple of hours of airplay from the western stations that are not counted on the Tracker. This is why "Last Name" ended up being #1 on the Billboard/R&R chart. The airplay from the western stations was just enough for Carrie to squeak by Brad at the very last minute.

It looks like kenny may have gotten the number 1 spot this week- unless carrie gets a lucky break from the other time zones like last week.
I wonder if kenny will drop off after this week, and then carrie will reclaim the number 1 spot? It has been done before- though not very often.

so any chance LN will have other weeks at #1.? It could - we'll just have to see what happens in the days to come. Kenny & Carrie were neck & neck on the way up the charts, even leaping each other from week to week during their run. Both songs are still relatively young (barely 3 months out of the gate) so it'll be interesting to see what happens next. I was looking through my country top 40 book to see when the last time a song has fallen out of #1 and then returned to #1. I have a very old book (it only goes up to 1996), but it did happen once in 1993 and once again in 1995. It's very rare that returning to #1 happens, but it does happen in the rare instance when the stars align. Who knows if it'll happen again right now, but it seems like the situation could be ripe for it to happen again. We'll just have to see what the reaction is in the days to come to see which way this is going to go.

Dierks has been on both sides of it. After 7 weeks at #1 for AJ's 5 O'clock Somewhere, What Was I Thinkin' went to #1, but AJ came back for week #8 the following week. I don't recall the songs, but I believe the last see-saw battle (where songs swapped #1 for multiple weeks) happened back in '01.

Well today's MB update doesn't look so good. I thought at the very least, Kenny & Carrie would both keep gaining but just that Kenny would gain faster so Carrie would have a couple weeks at #2. (Which still could happen -- it's far too early to make a rush judgment after one day of updates). But the next few days should tell us more.

Yeah, why is the bullet for "LN" decreasing so much? Did the label just want a week at #1?

I wouldn't say "the bullet is decreasing so much." (edit: Ah, you're literally referring to the bullet. Okay. Apologies for my inability to comprehend. I'm a bullet-ignorer.) The MB update this morning only showed a -14 spins, -0.076 million AIs. I'm not saying it looks like it will get to #1 again since Kenny is making HUGE gains, but LN isn't really dropping drastically either.
What I'm curious about is if the label will send out the next single already or if it will allow/wait for LN to drop off. First, LN is more of a summer song than the likely next single Just a Dream. Second, releasing the next single now may result in a competition of Carrie spins, which I think happened a bit with the quick release of LN while AAG was still gaining. LN still made it to #1 after only 13 weeks so things didn't turn out so bad after all :) I do think it has some effect now with the length of stay there. From downloads, you can see how well AAG is still doing.
Btw, if someone had told me before that AAG would be the best-selling single from Carnival Ride and that LN would spend the least amount of weeks at #1, I would have scoffed and looked at him/her crazy. Shows what I know.
