Btw, if someone had told me before that AAG would be the best-selling single from Carnival Ride and that LN would spend the least amount of weeks at #1, I would have scoffed and looked at him/her crazy. Shows what I know. same here.

Well, she's not had the success she had with the singles from "Some Hearts" and I'm now starting to wonder if "Carnival Ride" is starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel... ? It's sad going from 7x Platinum to 2x Platinum... :(

I think she'll get to 3x platinum eventually. Without a crossover hit, that would still be pretty good, I think.

We really dont need to worry about album sales lol. SH was a monster hit.... CR is also in this day and age in the music industry. I will say it again - how many albums from October are in the top 50?

Our Song had label support :(
Carrie's team really botched this up if they really are just going to stop promoting it...after Idol it should have been HUGE

^ I agree! After Idol - that was the time to really focus on crossing over. But I guess they gived up all of the sudden. I can only hope they don't give up on the album and release two more singles... "Just a Dream" and "Flat on the Floor". *crosses fingers*

they scratched the adds date. Apparently they don't care whether it crosses over or not. But what else did you expect from the like of clive davis and co.?

On Hot AC it shows 5 stations playing Last Name. Not much but at least a start.

Btw, if someone had told me before that AAG would be the best-selling single from Carnival Ride and that LN would spend the least amount of weeks at #1, I would have scoffed and looked at him/her crazy. Shows what I know. I am pretty surprised but not extremely surprised whenever I think about it. Even though Carrie's fans on the internet seemed to love LN more, I believe overall, Country music fans as a whole liked AAG better than LN. I think adults and tweens (since AAG did very well on Disney radio) are the ones that love AAG, but most teenagers don't seem to love it (judging by what I've seen here and elsewhere). I do think the label moved on from AAG too quickly. Some people have said that AAG should have sent to Pop/Top 40 radio, but I disagree. Many teenagers and young adults listen to Pop radio, and I don't think it would have gone over so well. I do think AAG could have been a hit on AC if it was sent out (perhaps a slight chance at Hot AC), but not Pop radio. Unfortunately for LN, too many people just compared it to BHC, even though I never thought they were extremely alike except they were both sassier songs about topics that could be considered controversial (both storylines are completely different). When the LN video first came out, I liked it, but now, I'm not sure if it was done correctly, especially since it was the prologue of BHC. Yes, that idea was cute, but after really thinking about it, I don't think that was the best of moves because it just made more people compare it to BHC. Even though LN is a great song, I think the majority of people just like BHC better, and it is unfair to LN to have to be compared to BHC. I don't believe anyone has ever mentioned this, but I also think LN could have benefitted with a radio edit (similar to the Idol finale version of LN), cutting off about 30 seconds at the end. When I'm listening to LN, I get pumped up, but towards the end, I'm just sorta ready for the song to be over because it repeats way too much and gets a little boring. Cutting off 30 seconds would make it 3:30 in length, which in my opinion, is the best possible length for most singles. Anyways, even if LN doesn't cross over at any other format and doesn't spend any more weeks at #1, one week at #1 is still a big success (just not a super huge success like some were hoping).

What are the chances of LN getting back to #1 on country now that it's fallen to #2, how often does that happen? LN only spending one week at #1 seems absurd to me. I thought it was locked for at least 4 weeks.

There was no point in sending this to top 40 radio; the top three core audiences at country radio (Women 35-44/Women 25-54/Adults 25-54) aren't within the core demos of top 40 radio (12-24 and 18-34) since top 40 radio started blowing off millions of adult listeners two decades ago.
Furthermore, the skyrocketing numbers of 18-24 and 18-34 year-old listeners at country radio over the past three years makes a label rep's job much easier; go where your core audience is, and go where the highest overall ratings are (country radio by far!!!), and the $$$ will follow.

If there's no pint sending this to Top 40, how come Before He Cheats went top ten there? I can't see why this song wouldn't appeal to the exact same audience as BHC, that's obviously what this song was made for in the first place.

My book goes til 2002 1993 Garth, Tracy Byrd, Garth (Ain't going down/Holdin' Heaven) 1995 JMM, JMM, B&D, JMM (I can love you like that/little miss honkeytonk) 2001 Toby, DR, Toby, DR, Toby (You shouldn't kiss me like this/One more day) 2001 Alan, Alan, B&D, Alan (Where I come from/only in america) Plus the recent ones that are farther up the thread so any chance LN will have other weeks at #1.? It could - we'll just have to see what happens in the days to come. Kenny & Carrie were neck & neck on the way up the charts, even leaping each other from week to week during their run. Both songs are still relatively young (barely 3 months out of the gate) so it'll be interesting to see what happens next. I was looking through my country top 40 book to see when the last time a song has fallen out of #1 and then returned to #1. I have a very old book (it only goes up to 1996), but it did happen once in 1993 and once again in 1995. It's very rare that returning to #1 happens, but it does happen in the rare instance when the stars align. Who knows if it'll happen again right now, but it seems like the situation could be ripe for it to happen again. We'll just have to see what the reaction is in the days to come to see which way this is going to go.

It's weird how the floor just fell out from under the song. It had a nice bullet to surge to #1. Now, within about a week, its bullet is basically gone, and it isn't going to Top 40. What in the world?

There have been other instances of songs returning to #1 in recent years that I haven't seen mentioned -- Diamond Rio's Beautiful Mess returned to #1 after Ten Rounds with Jose Cuervo spent one week on top. Live Like You Were Dying was infamously interrupted by Reba after 3 weeks at #1, and then resumed its run for 4 more weeks.
I believe the You Shouldn't Kiss Me/One More Day run was like this:
week 1 -- Toby week 2 -- Diamond Rio (because Dale Earnhardt died, the song moved up well ahead of "schedule") weeks 3 and 4 -- Toby week 5 -- Diamond Rio (its most likely arrival date all along)
I don't think Carrie's got a good chance of resuming the #1 position. Kenny's up almost 900k on MB in 2 days; Blake's up 600k; Carrie's down 250k. So she'll be behind 2 songs by next Monday and her label is presumably satisfied with the one-week appearance at the top. I guess somebody had to be the first one-weeker this year on Billboard, but I wouldn't have guessed it would be Carrie.
The whole process doesn't make sense to me, but then again I was in favor of letting Kenny's song go up ahead of her.
Her next distinction: getting 4 Billboard #1 songs in one chart year. It's been done before, but not often. (The Billboard chart year starts the first week of December, so So Small counts.)

It kind of just became a #9 hit there on it's own.

i wonder what is the label's goal in all this manipulation, since the song will end up having a really short chart life. don't get me started on what i really think happened with this song Unfortunately for LN, too many people just compared it to BHC, even though I never thought they were extremely alike except they were both sassier songs about topics that could be considered controversial (both storylines are completely different). When the LN video first came out, I liked it, but now, I'm not sure if it was done correctly, especially since it was the prologue of BHC. Even though LN is a great song, I think the majority of people just like BHC better, and it is unfair to LN to have to be compared to BHC. absolutely. LN was always going to be compared to BHC, rightly or wrongly. its my belief that if LN was on the first album, and BHC on the second album, we'll see a role reversal. this will happen to any of the sassier edgy songs she records in the future. you bring up an excellent point about the video. i also agree that i dont think the video did the song justice, since it just added fuel to the comparison. if you want to have a prequel, have a song thats much more similar in the first place. im never a fan of using the BHC idea for this video right from the get go (and not a fan of ANY musician using similar ideas from old videos when making their new ones). i for one much prefer original work and prequels and sequels always reek of unoriginality to me. while the idea must have seemed novel at the time, i really think it hurt the song's ability to stand on its own.
