I really like "I Told You So." It's one of my favorites but I really doubt it'll be a single.

next album #1 "...", released in August You really think Carrie would do well with a song with no words? Maybe she could try releasing 4:00 of silence to radio (titled "...." - one period per minute), and then have the number one song of the year!

I don't think ITYS will be released - at least, I hope not for Carrie's number one streak's sake. Remakes always do terrible 80% of the time.

SIRIUS hardly ever plays this! i never hear it unless i play it on my iPod :'( I hear this song on Sirius all the time, as well as LOTS of other Carrie songs. 10 4 CARRIE UNDERWOOD Last Name 47 30 17 0.047 S060-FM >SiriusSatellite Country 47 30 17 10 8 9 9 11 0.047 47 times is quite a bit considering they only played 1 song more times than this one. Maybe you aren't listening at the right time!! By the way, to whomever said try XM because it's better, I say this: X016-FM >XM Radio Country 37 32 5 9 7 7 5 9 0.037 They played the song 10 times less than Sirius did. In fact, only ONE station in the entire country played the song more times than Sirius, so I don't really know what more you can expect. Have a nice day!!!

47 spins per week is awfully high for a song which hasn't cracked the top ten; those are 'power rotation' level spins.
33-42 spins per week are plenty for a song in the top five and numerous country powerhouses have followed that practice and stuck to that range for decades.

But this is a satellite radio station we're talking about, so there are no commercials. No commercials = more time to play music. Sirius currently has seven songs in rotation with 40+ spins.

If the folks at Sirius/XM are as addicted to research as corporate radio are, then that's too bad.
Their research probably shows that their subscribers may or may not listen to country radio as much as today's country radio listeners do; the current TSL (Time Spent Listening) is approximately 7.5 hours per week down substantially from the record-breaking level of TSL in 1991, which was just under 18 hours per week)
Seven songs with 40+ spins is not a good thing for the satellite radio industry, IMHO; it would appear that they don't trust and/or respect their listeners any more than the corporate behemoths who've destroyed terrestial radio in more ways than one since 1996, commercials or no commercials.
The fact that those same behemoths are doing everything to stop the XM/Sirius merger is downright reprehensible, but what else would you expect from a company (or companies) whose well-documented level of ineptitude exceeds the levels of incompetence exemplfies by such chronically mismanaged companies as General Motors?

I disagree about the 40+ spins. That equates to about a spin every four hours, so I doubt the average listener would hear it more than two times in one day. Also, if you look at the current playlists for XM/Sirius, I don't see how you can say they don't trust/respect their listeners. Sirius has the current singles from Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, and Kellie Pickler in its top 10 (at #2, #7, and #10 respectively). They also have the news singles from Heidi Newfield, Sara Evans, and Keith Anderson in the top 20. Looking below the top 20, they're playing Keith Urban's "Got It Right This Time" 21 times a week, One Flew South's "My Kind Of Beautiful" 20 times, and Jamey Johnson's "In Color" 19 times (those songs are all in the 30-35 range). Currently XM is giving its top 15 songs anywhere from 38 to 43 spins (Toby Keith's "She's A Hottie" and Blake Shelton's "Home" are a part of that group). They have Garth's "Midnight Sun" at #16 with 34 spins, Trisha's new single at #18 with 32 spins, and Sara Evans at #19 with 31 spins. Crystal Shawanda's "You Can Let Go" is getting significant airplay with 29 spins. Some album tracks that are getting airplay: Sugarland's "County Line" with 28 spins, Vince Gill's "These Days" with 20 spins, and Gretchen Wilson's "Heaven Help Me" with 20 spins. After going through these playlists, anyone can see that they have many differences from the typical radio station. I don't see how an argument can be made that satellite radio doesn't respect its listeners. I doubt they would be playing random album tracks or songs from small indie labels without their listeners asking them to play those songs. Also, with satellite radio's increasing popularity, it's clear that they must be doing something right. If they're playing a song 40+ times a week, it's because their listeners are asking them to play it.

but i HATE how XM does not show the whole title of the song or artist on the display screen of the car! i cannot stand it!!! Ha, yeah I know. I have the mp3 player that takes the song right from the radio, along with it's information. Unfortunately, they never display the whole title, which really gets at my OCD. (It's not like they wouldn't fit - the titles are capable of scrolling...) At least about 10 seconds into the song the entire title and artist appear. I don't think ITYS will be released - at least, I hope not for Carrie's number one streak's sake. Remakes always do terrible 80% of the time. not for Rascal Flatts. unless you are talking about remaking past hits. Well, yes and no. I don't know whether your referencing Bless The Broken Road, What Hurts The Most, or Life Is A Highway, but maybe they just get lucky. Usually I'd blame popularity, but that doesn't seem true all the time (Suspicions?). WHTM I felt was always credited towards RF, and not enough to being a remake of Mark Wills's version. I think the same could be said of BTBR.

Bless The Broken Road was a remake? i knew Life Is A Highway and What Hurts The Most were though.
and "Suspicions" actually did fairly well on the charts, a top 15 isnt bad at all. just not for Tim ;) (or did it peak at #16? i know it was somewhere between 12 & 16)

Melodie Crittenden first recorded it, taking it to #42 on the country charts.

By this time next year this will be a moot point. Pending FCC approval the companies will have merged by then.

Sirius is nothing like corporate radio stations. They pretty much play whatever they want. There are tons of examples of this. Every hour they play a minimum of two "buzz cuts" which are brand new songs that may or may not even have been released as singles yet or which may or may not be high on the chart. That is 48 times a day at a minimum that they play newer or even brand new music. Every Saturday evening for two hours they play nothing but songs that have not been released yet or deep album cuts from both well known and unknown singers just to see what their listeners think about them. People get to call in and voice their opinions about the songs. Sirius also has what they call the "New Country Council" where country music lovers can tell the station what they want to hear. Requests can be sent in through email, through the phone lines, or any number of ways. On Friday nights they play an hour of "Alternative Country" as well. Whenever a big new CD comes out from a major artist they play all of the album cuts throughout a day or two to give people an idea what they album is like. The most recent was George Strait's new CD last week. They've done it with Carrie's, Brad's, Kenny's and Toby's and Tim's last CDs as well. Sirius is about as FAR from the corporate stations agenda as can you can possibly be. They give listeners PLENTY of opportunity to express their opinions and tell them what they want to hear. And if they don't, well, then they are doing a darn good job of pulling the wool over my eyes. I would never go back to commercial country radio after having satellite radio, whether it be Sirius OR XM. I've never listened to XM so I can't comment on it, but I'm sure I'd like it much better than my local country stations. I chose Sirius for the Howard Stern Channel, NASCAR, and NFL Football, the country music channel was just a terrific bonus. I had no idea how good it would be. They play Carrie's music a LOT, even cuts that you will NEVER hear on commercial radio, such as "That's Where It Is", "We're Young and Beautiful" and lately I've been hearing "The More Boys I Meet". By the way, the "corporate behemoths" you mentioned appear not to have convinced the United States Department of Justice that Sirius is enough of a threat to them because they approved the merger just a couple of weeks ago. That was the major hurdle, so now all the FCC has to do is work out the details, approve it, and then I can have Football AND Baseball on the same satellite network!!! Let's hope that they combine the country channels to come up with something even better than what we already have. Have a GREAT night everyone!
