And Mr. Otto winds up with a huge prize---the #1 single of 2008. by spins or audience or both ? Most likely audience, considering a.) Billboard uses audience, and b.) this song had insanely high audience totals when it was at #1. Anyway, I'm glad to see that this is still getting pushed quite nicely. There's almost no way this can miss #1 now.

This is one of my favourite country records. It will make it to number one, I have no doubt in my mind. If it doesn't something is seriously wrong. The radio mix to this song is much better as one said earlier refreshing.
Update : I'm sorry must have heard the early version of that song. The re-recorded mix does sound updated and noteworthy. It should capture the #1 spot next week.

I made an error, I must have heard the earlier version somewhere. The one that you hear on the radio is the official re-recorded version. There is a "radio/single" edit in existence, which I was blessed with and it's only edited slightly. The LP version stop time is 3:57 rather than the promo version being only :22 seconds short.

Thanks...I like some parts of the album an awful lot ("Chicken Fried", "Toes", "Where The Boat Leaves From"), but there's also a few that I really don't like ("Sic Em On A Chicken", "It's Not OK"). It's a real mixed bag for me.

I'm starting to wonder if this will make it to #1 now... seems like "Love Story" will be there at least 2 weeks.

Tim doesn't seem to have the momentum for a future #1, plus MG and Sugarland are far enough behind that there should still be room. As a last resort, I'm planning to call every station I know of that's on Billboard's panel and beg them to play the snot out of this.

Wow, this was close this week. 22 more spins than Taylor and a bigger bullet than she, only off by .8 million in audience. There is no way they can miss next week.

well considering Taylor released her album this week, and she has 3 times the bullet that they do on Mediabase today. i think this could very well miss #1 again

I'm shocked by all the love for this song.
I HIGHLY despise it. I think it's a terrible song. The sound of it is very generic and boring. And the lyrics just make me cringe.
This is up there with "Me And My Gang", "Redneck Girl", and "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On" as one of the most unbearable songs of all time.

PLEASE keep calling in the requests for this one. I'm about to start calling every local station that's on the Billboard panel and request this as often as I can. They look like they're far enough ahead to just make it on 12/6, but a little extra wouldn't hurt.

This song was bound for the top, Taylor's wasn't. I think Taylor had to use some payola (similar to So Small - I love the song, but it was clear that it wasn't going #1 unless the label REALLY pushed it; the extra weeks on top were just a good consequence) because some stations might've shunned this song for its pop remix. Still, she got it. Good for her.
This is why, suddenly, this song took off and Taylor's took a HUGE hit.

Taylor's big promo campaign came to an end, and Zac reaped the reward (although I'm sure the folks at Atlantic did a little extra promoting of their own).

This is back to #1 on the Real Time Tracker now, too. I don't see Tim or Montgomery Gentry catching up to them anytime soon, and Taylor's promo will most likely be focused on pop now that she's just broken the top 30 there, so I think it's safe to say that "Chicken Fried" will officially hit #1 next week.

this is such a horrible album. the only other song i can see being a hit is "Where The Boat Leaves From" (or something like that). but songs like "Toes", "Mary", "Sic 'Em On A Chicken", etc are just horrible!

You don't have a very broad taste, do you? I could easily see Highway 20 Ride, Free, and Whatever It Is all being singles too. This album is what it is. ZBB didn't change themselves to make an album that was corporate Nashville. I happen to enjoy this album a lot. Sure, there's a few "novelty" songs on there (Sic 'Em, It's Not OK)... but overall, if you appreciate this kind of music, it's a pretty strong effort.

There's nothing wrong with making music that doesn't fit Nashville's very narrow parameters.
Gary Allan is among the most-respected artists at country radio, and there are numerous other artists like him.

"So Small" was caught up in that two month chart mess caused by the Garth Brooks "More Than A Memory" fiasco. As for Taylor, she was doing TONS of promo and making appearances EVERYWHERE to get "Love Story" to #1 and it all worked. The above said, very glad to see this song at #1 where it belongs.
