I just can't bring myself to listen to the whole song. After about 30 seconds I change the station when this song comes on. I thought it would have grown on me by now.

Pat's new cd is out, and I'm really enjoying it. Like Cannonball, it does stray a little bit further away from Pat's Texas background, but the drumbeats are still there, and even some of the "texas-style" arrangements, but the guitar work is just a little more Nashville. What's consistent is Pat's superb voice and strong songwriting skill. I love the new version of Carry On, and really hope it is the next single, but there are a couple of other radio-worthy tracks as well. What I'm For will undoubtedly be a single at some point. It starts off as just another typical "list" song that talks about the current state of things, but the things it's talking about aren't the usual fluff; they're simpler, more descript, and they get the message of the song across without ever really saying it. The only complaint I have is that the production gets a bit too loud on several of the songs. It's not overly compressed, just a bit loud and doesn't fully let the personality of Pat's voice flow at some points.
Standout tracks: Carry On, Lucky, What I'm For, Country Star (Pat's answer to Nickelback's "Rock Star)

What I'm For might be my favorite radio song of 2009, assuming it does get released. Meanwhile, Let Me posted its single biggest overnight gain of the entire chart run on MB this morning. I don't suppose it's going to last 40 weeks, is it?

^ Next week makes week 34, so I guess it's conceivable, but I think that the boost is probably just a BNA push on album release week. That'll die off in a week or two and I expect the song to follow suit. Still, it's already Pat's third biggest hit, and considering it's lack of critical acclaim and poor callout scores, I'd say it's doing pretty well for Pat, and gives me hope for What I'm For and/or Carry On.

A couple weeks ago, my local country station played 3 tracks off of the new cd (What Iam For, Country Star and Lucky) and had a poll up on the site, asking to vote for your favorite. While I forgot the actual percentages, I remember Lucky winning, with country star and What Iam For finishing pretty close together.
As much I would love to see Carry On Get re-released a 3rd time, I doubt it will happen unless they go 5 singles deep.

I think it was sort of like Eli Young Band's "When It Rains". It was released independently (and maybe even only regionally, I don't really remember), and then shipped as the lead single when Pat signed with Republic in 2001. As far as the '09 version goes, I don't think they would've went ahead and re-recorded the song if they didn't intend to release it at some point. Plus I remember an article from last summer that indicated something to that effect, but i dont recall what it said exactly.

Let Me is up more than 1 million impressions on MB the last two days. Not sure why this is happening but if it's a real gain, not a panel change result, I'm glad that radio has figured out in chart week 34 that this is a good song. Maybe Pat should re-release this one instead.

Carry On was released as a texas single I believe in late 1999ish range. I do like the re-mix and would be happy to see it on the charts again. I was shocked that it only peaked in the 30s.

For a mere $7.99 @ Best Buy, I think it's worth splurging on.
Any recommendations on any of his earlier CDs?
Thanks!!!

Three Days and Lucky Ones would be my suggestions, but all four of his previous albums are top notch.

I do have his 'Cannonball' CD, which is wonderful; thanks for those recommendations.

Yep, I'll have to agree with "Three Days" and "Lucky Ones". Of the two though, I prefer "Lucky Ones". Both are excellent albums, beginning to end.
Marv, if you liked "Cannonball" (which isn't his best album IMO), then I'm pretty confident you'll enjoy these other two albums more.

In fact, I would say that it's one of the 5 finest albums that I own. It was sort of a transition album for Pat, between his more Texas releases and his slightly more contemporary releases, but the songwriting credits are impressive and very Texan (Jack Ingram, Drew Womack, Wade Bowen, and Radney Foster all had their hands on a song). The depth of the album is what makes it really stand out though.

Man, I so need to hit f.y.e. again!
Anyway, this song's really grown on me. At first I thought it was overproduced and that the chorus was a little annoying what with having the same note more then 10 times in a row, but really, that's an effective way of driving the chorus home. It's almost like a chant.

This song is growing on me. I didn't like it at first, but just recently bought Pat's new cd, and its groing on me. The new CD is one of Pat's best IMO. Alot of good songs on it, yall really should pick it up!

At this point in time, they are looking at February 23 for release of the next single.
Ten Pound Hammer, there's a great little video (I will look for the link when I have time) from one of the release events this last week of Pat discussing how he found that same note in a row a fascinating way to present the chorus. I think it was from his event at Bryan/College Station.
And, I'm not sure where is the right place to discuss this on this board (so please forgive me if it should not be here) but I think the "drive-thru" release event at Lonestar Park was a brillant idea! It did have to be changed due to weather, but the "mobile Meet & Greet" as Pat called it on Dallas radio, was very cool!

Technically it might not belong, but I don't think Pat Green's a big figure on this board; so you can discuss anything Pat-related on this thread without generating much in the way of a problem. Just my opinion.
Feb 23 would be reasonable -- if he's going Billboard top 10 with Let Me then he needs two more chart weeks after the 2/14 chart to get there. By that time AJ and Billy C will be gone and Pat, if he can keep gaining, should be able to hold off Rodney and Tim to make it -- which would be on the 2/28 chart. That would be worth pursuing, his first and only top 10 since Wave on Wave. But once it's there, they might as well let the song go and switch over to a new one, which I hope will be What I'm For.
