To crateriko and others who are wondering... I'd rather not comment anymore on what information I was given by what I thought was a reliable source who has never steered me wrong in the past. I am man enough to simply admit that I was wrong and leave it at that. I wish Carrie success with this song. Should be hitting #1 right around Labor Day or so. Have a nice day!

I like this song just fine, but I think it's trying a bit too hard to be a 'sad' song, feels a little contrived to me.

Funny on my first listen or 2 of the Carnival Ride CD, I hated AAG and never really liked So Small that much. I thought Just a Dream was ok but it was definitely not one of my top 5 favorites. The only single that has been released that I loved from the start is Last Name. Good thing I wasn't responsible for picking the singles, lol.
I Love INYW but I highly doubt another ballad would be released after JAD. Maybe I can hope for Get out of this Town next if there is a 5th single. That one I liked from the first listen.

now they have to release IKYW for the 5th single Highly doubt they'd release two ballads b2b, but you never know. I think Flat on the Floor would be the smartest 5th single choice, personally.

This song is very good lyrically (not song of the year material in my book, but very good nonetheless), but Carrie oversings WAY too much for me to really like this. I like the story (even if it is a bit over the top), but I don't understand why she feels the need the scream the entire chorus. Learning to control her voice is the one major thing that Carrie needs to work on to reach elite status in my book (which I know, means next to nothing). I guess I can grasp to hope that her label throws y'all a curveball and releases Twisted as the 5th single. That song is how I wish Carrie sang all of her songs.

now they have to release IKYW for the 5th single NOOO! Lol... that's one of the two songs I don't like from Carnival Ride (the other being 'The More Boys I Meet') ... the fifth single HAS to be either Get Out Of This Town or Flat on the Floor!

Strong choice if true, but I don't like how they keep rush-releasing singles instead of letting the singles have a long run at the top.

I totally agree about Carrie screaming. For as talented as she is, she really needs to not shout/scream every single song. I never really even noticed until my Mom pointed out that observation in a concert of hers we went to recently. Don't get me wrong, I love her but she could learn a lot about how to control and change up her voice. I think that is part of why I love I Told you So--one it's a remake from someone who didn't scream it and at least the verse parts showcase her voice better.

Hmmm...I don't think Carrie oversings the JAD chorus. I'm not a huge fan of the chorus -- I don't think it lives up the poignancy of the lyrics in the verses, nor the haunting melody of the verses and bridge -- but it is catchy and accessible. I do think the harmonies and instrumentation in the chorus are louder than they need to be, but Carrie's lead vocal sounds fine to me -- true to the lyric and very well-controlled. Where I struggle with this song is in the two elongated notes toward the end of the song (the "juuuuuuuust a dream" part) -- there, I can see why Carrie might be accused of oversinging. From an interpretive standpoint, I guess it's supposed to be a desperate wail. But it sounds more powerful than it needs to be to me. Basically, I'm with sbp17 -- I like this song, but would have loved it with more dialed-back production.
That said, I'm glad this song is being released. I love the verses of this song, and I absolutely adore the way Carrie uses her head voice on the chorus toward the end of the song. She sounds absolutely gorgeous there. Carrie's transitions from head to chest voice (and chest voice to head voice) show really great control. Another thing that works about this song is that it's an example of a song that seems specific to the melodic tendencies and lyrical voice of the artist even though she didn't write it. It just sounds like a story that Carrie would tell, and it is told the way I would expect her to tell it. And I'm glad this story is being told and that it will be heard on the radio.
All that said, I hope that Carrie is aware of the massive positive response to the lovely acoustic Eddy Arnold tribute she did with Brad Paisley at the ACMs and sees fit to mix in some less produced fare on her next album. I think CR's production was motivated by Carrie's desire to fill an arena when she toured as a headliner for the first time. I hope that her experience touring gives her the confidence to dial things back for a few songs. I'm encouraged that Carrie's live performances of several of her songs (ITYS especially) have evolved to show even more nuance in her vocal approach.

I agree that an acoustic live version of this song would be one hell of an event... Carrie would bring the house down... x10 times.

I think it's funny how Carrie just released possibly the best song of her career, according to the positive feedback this song is getting. While Rascal Flatts possibly released the worst song of their career, according to feedback. I really love Rascal Flatts, but their single choices are just terrible, while Carrie has great single choices! :)

I actually made a copy of the CR cd for my car and used the acoustic version from the DVD instead of the studio recording. I like it 1,000000000 times more than the regular one.

Strong choice if true, but I don't like how they keep rush-releasing singles instead of letting the singles have a long run at the top. I've been VERY curious about this too and not at all understanding why they're cannibalizing spins... AAG in particular should have had a much longer run at the top. This all makes me wonder whether a 3rd album is sooner in the works than most of us would presumably believe...

Fantastic song and fantastic choice for the next single. I hope they make a really good video to this. Something like "Concrete Angel" would be nice.
