Look who got a record deal. This will be her first single from Arista Nashville/19 Entertainment. Release Date: Aug. 11.

Alright! Kind of a surprise that someone who I wanted to get a deal actually got one. And I'm glad 19 kept her - not the best one, but by far not the worst. Don't mean to start comparisons and fan wars (which are inevitable, I suppose, in this thread ), but I hope she can at least match the Country radio success of Kellie Pickler. Hopefully this is a ballad.

why you guys are surprised that got a record deal? really, i'm not a fan but i knew for sure that she would get one, if even Phil Stacey got one. anyway, seems like she got a better record deal than Kellie Pickler, and i am sure Arista will promote her even better than BNA promoted Kellie. i wish her well, the only thing that bothers me big time is her lack of personality but i will give her a chance :)

Carrie didn't really have personality either when she won Idol, but she's made huge strides since then.
Hope this is good. I loved her studio version of "Coat of Many Colors."

(toned down excitement since caps, OMG's and YAY's, and many exclamation points should not be used on this board)
I am so glad she got a record label! Her and Brooke were my favorites this season! Wasn't she on Arista before they downsized? I really hope she does well and does at least match the success of Kellie Pickler as S4C said, and i think she has a chance to be more successful because she is on Arista rather than BNA like alpha said.
And btw, isn't 19 Entertainment the ones that promote the American Idol winners and Runner-ups? I always remember seeing that on Carrie's songs on Mediabase. Does that mean that American Idol is promoting her?
Hopefully this is a good song! I can't wait to hear it! :)

19 Entertainment is a managing firm. They handle American Idol, yes, but the show is not the one managing Carrie.

oh ok, do they manage most of the Idol contestants? Kellie has 19 as her label on Mediabase as well but Josh and Bucky dont.

hmmm...wasn't really a fan of her on AI, she didn't seem to do it for me. She always sounded off key on the show, but i'm sure it was just the audio feed, not pleasant for most. she doesn't really seem to have a personality either IMO, but i'll give it a chance. If she does better than Kellie though, i'm going to be livid.

And btw, isn't 19 Entertainment the ones that promote the American Idol winners and Runner-ups? I always remember seeing that on Carrie's songs on Mediabase. Does that mean that American Idol is promoting her? 19 Entertainment is an umbrella organization that encompasses 19 Recordings, which is the record label to which all Idol alumni who are signed by the SonyBMG family right off the show are signed, and several other divisions. 19 Entertainment also contains 19 Management, which is the management company that represents several Idol alumni, including Carrie, Chris Daughtry, Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis and David Cook. Being represented by 19 Management does not necessarily mean being signed to 19 Recordings, and vice versa. For example, Kellie Pickler is signed to 19 Recordings/BNA but is not on 19 Management's roster. 19 Recordings and 19 Management don't really have anything to do with American Idol, although I tend to think it's a little easier for artists signed by 19R and/or 19M to get performance gigs on the show. According to a document filed by CKx (which owns 19 Entertainment) to the Securities & Exchange Commission a few years back, RCA Music Group is the default US designée with right of first refusal on all American Idol finalists signed by 19 Recordings in those first few months after the show. Thing is, RCA Music Group is comprised of New York labels RCA Records and J/Arista Records. Carrie presented a wrinkle for the existing 19R contract with RCA Music Group because she felt her home was with the Nashville labels that comprised what was then RCA Label Group (BNA, Arista Nashville and RCA Nashville), a separate entity from RCA Music Group. At the time, RCA Label Group was not covered by 19R's contract with RCA Music Group. Carrie worked out a deal that has her signed to 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville/Arista New York. That arrangement opened the door for country Idol contestants to be signed to the SonyBMG Nashville family via 19 Recordings. Kellie Pickler and now, Kristy Lee Cook, are both signed to SonyBMG Nashville labels via 19R. Anyway, USA Today's Idol Chatter blog has what appears to be the press release announcing Kristy Lee Cook's signing. The press release describes "15 Minutes of Shame" as a "playful, uptempo number."

I liked Kristy on Idol. I've always contended that she can do at least as well as Kellie Pickler has done. Now we'll find out if that statement is true or not. Obviously Kellie runs rings around Kristy in terms of personality. (And entertainment can account for lots of sales). But based on pure vocal ability, I've always thought Kristy can do at least as well as Kellie. We'll see.

I don't think shes got Pickler's appeal AT ALL, but she was cute, and didn't deserve to be seen as the worst person on the season whatsoever. If she has the right single/album, she could do good I think.

Woohoo! Success in creating the exact opposite of what I was hoping for! I'm a little worried now. I'm not sure that she'll really shine on a "playful" song, especially if it's something along the lines of "Eight Days A Week." Not that I disliked her studio version, but I'm sure the general country audience would... But, then again, I suppose some kind of power-ballad I was hoping for might not have done too well as a debut single.

She is bland and boring and she will go nowhere. you sure are a positive person! ;) but please dont just come in her and trash her like that some people including myself really enjoy Kristy and dont appreciate harsh comments like that. now if you were to say "i really don't care for her i hope she doesn't become a success" that is much less harsh and it wouldnt sound like you were trolling. and you need to watch out because you can get in big trouble for that! thanks!

At first I didn't like her, but she got really good so she is promising, we'll just have to see where this goes. She is a female so it will be hard for her to make it, but then again she could be the next Carrie Underwood- you just never know in this genre!

I'm just giving my opinion just like everyone else. This is the first time I've ever had anything negative to say. Other people trash my favorite artists all the time but they are entitled to their opinion and I respect that. I still stand by what I said earlier, but I honestly feel that she is not a stong enough singer to make it in the business. Maybe I'll be wrong and then you'll have the last laugh. I'll wait until I hear her song to pass further judgemnet.

I like Kellie Pickler a lot, but I feel like Kristy's vocals are way stronger. I think a lot of people were swayed a lot by Simon's comments into thinking she was a weak vocalist, but in actuality, she is a very competent singer. I hope she does great because she's beautiful and talented!

^i agree. i didnt think any of her performances were as bad as the judges said they were. but she got a lot farther than Simon thought she would and she was definitely the most improved throughout the season, Syesha and her were really the only 2 who improved immensely!
but i am REALLY looking forward to this! i just hope its good and she gets god promo! is this the first news we have of an Idol alum from season 7 about a debut single? (besides "The Time Of My Life"?)

Arista is the ultimate promoting label....they always promote the crap out of their artists.....Kristy being on Arista with the producer being the writer of "Jesus Takethe Wheel."....she is set for some serious sucsess. She has the look too which helps alot...I mean she is drop dead gourgous.

If she got a record deal then Brooke will defintely get one :) Sounds like a fun song, should be interesting to hear. I think I'm the only person who acutally enjoyed 8 Days a Week

i liked Eight Days A Week, it was not my favorite from her but it was good. i really loved "Anyway" and "God Bless The U.S.A." and i think she sounded amazing on "Forever" and she shouldn't have gotten voted off that week. but anyways, i hope this is just a well written song because i know she will sing it well :)

Arista is the ultimate promoting label... Except when it comes to Jypsi and JMC (he's really struggling to get Top 20).
