Here's a link to the song. I'm not an expert on what makes a good song, but I like it. I wasn't a big fan of hers on Idol. I thought they were hard on her sometimes she deserved it, but others she didn't. I thought she was the most improved of the contestants. www.kfrog.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=2740946They're doing a mystery artist thing, so I don't know how long it will be up.

Dang I miss pre-Idol and other reality show artists. Ya know when vocal style and SOME semblance of artistic integrity was still around. This chick sounds like 10,000 other singers. And the song sounds like a million before it as well. The whole Idol runner ups are starting to honestly wear on me....

Kristy Lee was my least favorite contestant on Idol this year, but I have to say that I really enjoyed this song and liked the vocal. I think that the problem that some singers encounter on AI is that they don't really get to showcase their voice well due to the weekly themes on the show. Carrie Underwood, for example, competed in a season where the themes were more open-ended and most weeks any genre would've been suitable. Country vocalists who followed her on the show weren't as lucky--the themes were either contained to an artists or genre-specific (ex: Standards week; Mariah Carey week). That's one of the reasons people were surprised when Kellie came off Idol and she sounded great; she wasn't able to show off what she had when she was on the show. But, all that aside, I did like the song and I think she has the potential to become a prominent country act. I could see "15 Minutes of Shame" being sung by Sara Evans, and that's always good because if you can see an established act singing the song that means it's at least decent.

judging by the title i thought the song would be more unique, knowing the people that is working with her i was expecting something really great, the song it not bad... but this subject is already getting repetitive.

I agree, songs like 15MOS are repetitive, but you can't deny that it sells. People enjoy hearing the revenge songs...Sara Evans' "Cheatin'," Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats," and Taylor Swift's "Picture to Burn" all reflect that. It's obviously a formula that works, so such a song choice as a debut single isn't half bad because the producers already know it'll sell based on subject matter alone. Just my own opinion, though.

I'm not going to lie, this was definitely better than I thought it was going to be!! I expected it to be terrible and the vocals very weak, because thats how she came across in my opinion, on television, but of course that doesn't always mean everything...anyway, I'm not sure if I like it yet, but good luck to her! definitley took me by surprise :)

I haven't listened to it yet, but you have to consider how much control the producers have in the studio with the vocals that they didn't get when singing live on TV so just because she may sound better, doesn't mean that she's grown....could mean that there was alot of tweaking involved to get her to sound that way.

I liked that song! A lot! Haha. It's better than anything she ever did on Idol. I see this song going Top 10. A run like "A Different World" had. Great song.

^you are probably right. I don't think singing on television sounds good for most. I'm willing to give her a chance.

Sometimes I think I saw a different Kristy on Idol, because I always liked her performances and thought she had a very beautiful and powerful voice. Did anyone see her rendition of Martina McBride's Anyway? I loved it! And I loved the line about singing anyway even if people forget you afterwards. I could definitely sense a lot of emotion in that. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HkttP1sMiUAnyway, I don't really like this song... I was hoping she would come with an Anyway type of song. Still, I wish her the best.

Thanks for the link, stuffy.
It's a reasonably catchy tune, but it sounds like a quick recording with some sloppy vocal processing on a bunch of the higher notes.
I'm surprised that the song is so teen-oriented. But then again, as massikur pointed out in the Lee Ann Womack "Last Call" thread, that's the demo country radio is courting like mad these days. So maybe I shouldn't be surprised. It's just that I didn't think that was really Kristy's core demo, at least not while she was on AI, and I don't think this song plays to what worked for her on the show (as JJ suggests). I can't say I was a fan of hers while she was on the show -- I don't think she's a great live singer (though better, I think, than several under-30 female singers who are introducing themselves to the genre this year). But her voice has a timbre that evokes that of LeAnn Rimes, and within a more limited vocal range, I think it can sound quite appealing.
Oddly, I think this song is less country than Kristy Lee Cook is. And "15 Minutes of Shame" is a weird choice for the first attempt to establish her on country radio. I think it will need a heavy push to make the top-20. But we'll see. It's not terrible, but I don't think stands out, especially not after the raft of kiss-off/vengeance songs already mentioned. As is the case for most of the young female singers trying to introduce/establish themselves in country music this year, I think Kristy Lee Cook's prospects will depend heavily on label A&R efforts. She'll need something much stronger and more distinctive to back up "15 Minutes of Shame," in my view.

I agree. I wasn't expecting much but I'm surprised as well at the style of the song. I agree with this as well. I hear a slight Rimes sound though not as nuanced. I, too, think she has her moments of sounding nice on the appropriate material. Very true. Could prove to be an example of irony. Having said all of this, I am over the AI invasion on country radio. Save one (who shall go nameless), none of them sound bad. But save one and maybe two, they generally sound about average.

I like it, but it's kind of forgettable. I think it's a good-enough debut single though. And I hope the best for her.
She does sound different on the recording then she does live, but I guess that's to be expected with almost every artist.
I hope the second single (a.) becomes a reality and (b.) is a ballad.

I'm listening to this song for the first time right now, and I'm sure that those who have read my posts in the past can guess my opinion of the song. I like it. I really liked Kristy Lee Cook when she was on AI, easily my favorite female contestant, and I predicted that she would have a song on the radio by summer time.
This isn't the greatest song I've ever heard, nor is it the worst. I enjoy Kristy's voice and this song is quite catchy. I would really like to hear her sing more songs and get some really good songwriters to help her out and I think she could have at least as good an album as some of the other new country females this year have had. She won't be up to par with Carrie, Miranda and the like, but I think she could sell a few records with the right song. I think she could do quite well with a good ballad. Anyway, nice to finally hear the song, and although I was hoping for something better, this'll tide me over until something else comes up. Especially if they let her do a cute video for it as well.
Have a nice night.
Oh, by the way....is it just me, or is anyone else having trouble lately connecting to the Mediabase link for the chart that is usually in the Chart Projection thread? Maybe they've finally caught on and eliminated our ability to access that link. Anyway, if anyone knows, or could post another link that works somewhere, I'd really appreciate it. I can't access it on my PDA either, so I don't think it's just my computer. Thank you.

I just bought Casey Kessel's CD and she included a small note mentioning that she wrote this song, so I figured I would at least give it a listen and I was pleasantly surprised.

IMO, the single content wise is much better than JS's Come on Over but still doesn't have the wow factor to hold one's attention. It may do well the first couple of weeks due to interest.

It's decent, not the best in any means, but a good choice for a debut.

I didn't like her at all on Idol and thought she would do worse than Phil when I found out she was signed. Hearing this song, I gotta think she has a good shot. I'm really liking it and her recorded voice is far more pleasant (or maybe the live we saw was nerves or whatnot).
The song reminds me of some of the great old Shania stuff. Just me?

Having said all of this, I am over the AI invasion on country radio. Save one (who shall go nameless), none of them sound bad. But save one and maybe two, they generally sound about average. I couldn't agree more. One (maybe two) stand out for positive reasons, one (maybe two) stand out for negative reasons, but the rest sound so average. I'm more than ready to let some proven hitmakers from the past get more airplay, and less airplay be given to Idol (and other reality show) contestants.

Song is already getting some airplay. 5 spins so far. I like it. Very Country radio friendly. Country Radio music in great part is very generic, formula music and this fits that formula nicely. Plus she is very pretty and with a decent video it could do very well.

this song is an ok lead-off single, esp for Kristy who didn't win and didnt place that high in AI.
i dont like kristy's voice but when she was given/chose the right songs back on idol, she did good with it (like "anyway").
