Very catchy song! I'll be getting her album when it comes out. I think if Arista gives her enough promotion she can do well. More than anything I want to hear her do a ballad, but this was a good pick for her first single.

I wonder if that's the famous horse she had to sell in order to audition for Idol and was never able to get back...? Someone on another board said that it was not the horse she sold to pay for her Idol Audition.

I actually like this. It has that fun girl-power attitude element that Shania, SHeDAISY and Taylor Swift bring to the table so well. I can see this song having a real shot at the Top 20.
I know nothing about this girl since I am in no way an Idol fan, but I am interested in hearing some more music from her.

i just fnished lstening to all of the songs and im pleasantly surprisd! i like like my mother does the best. while its not one of those outstandng albums, its a decent enough debut, and klc sounds better here than she ever did on idol. and for an album that was rushed to get out there, not a bad effort at all. i hope she gets a decent career in country music, fits her well...

The tracks I've heard are surprisingly good. I say surprisingly because it was recorded in such a short time. Like My Mother Does is the track I like the most. Its different from what's being played on the radio right now and the arrangement is excellent. What bugs me is the lack of promotion from Arista Nashville. Kristy Lee has a lot of promise and I hope she has a good career but I don't think she'll stand much of chance without a commitment from her label.

I just heard this song on 'CT40', and it's terrific.
I hope it goes top 20 or better.

I didn't like her much on AI but I sure like her now. She has a great and naturally musical country voice. I really hope she does well.

really like Plant The Seed hope it will be next single I actually think it should have been the lead single, as it does a better job of playing to what worked for Kristy Lee Cook while she was on AI. The song is populist without seeming like it's pandering. I don't love the determinacy implied in the chorus but KLC sings the verses with a pleasing sincerity. The other thing it has going for it is that it doesn't seem like a trend-chasing song. One of the problems with "15 Minutes of Shame" is that it is yet another in a string of female revenge anthems, and it doesn't stand out from the pack. In its subject matter, "Plant the Seed" isn't like any song being sung by a female artist right now, and I think that might have helped it. But if they really wanted to go the teen country-pop route, "I Think Too Much" would have been a better choice, too. It doesn't have as strong a melodic hook as "15 Minutes of Shame," but the lyrics are funny and engaging, and I think that song would have found its audience more readily. KLC brings a bit of personality to this one, too. I also really like the melody of "Not Tonight" -- it has this melancholy California rock/Eagles feel to it. The verse lyrics are a bit thin and it bugs me that this person singing about how she just has to leave this guy who moves her so never gives a reason why she has to leave this guy. But the lyrics in the chorus work very well, I think. So those three songs are standouts. "Baby Believe" would have been the album highlight for me if KLC had done a better job interpretively -- it has a lovely country-soul vibe to it, but Kristy Lee Cook sings it without the necessary plea and yearning in her voice. The title track is very catchy, but melodically, the chorus strikes me as a pale shade of the chorus of "Flat on the Floor." Also, I don't think KLC's voice synchs with the instrumentation on the first verse and the "yeah yeahs" are too much and sound too harsh for my taste (in fairness, KLC fares better on them then Rachel Proctor, who co-wrote the song, did on the demo). "Like My Mother Does" is horrendously oversung at the end, and the whole tribute thing is oversold in the lyrics. I also think KLC sounds emotionally flat during the verses. She does sound pretty good on "Hoping to Find," but the lyrics drag -- I think the writers seem too enamored with the idea of hinting at love instead of announcing it, and it gets annoying. The lyrics of "Homesick" don't jive well with the melody of the song, and considering this is territory that has been revisited so many times, it takes a standout lyric and melody to make an impression...this one doesn't. And as for KLC's version of "God Bless the USA," I was turned off by what I thought was a pander when KLC sang it on AI, and I think that it is a pander that it is on the album. I don't hear anything particularly special in KLC's version of the song. Overall, the album simply isn't coherent, because there isn't a discernible personality underlying it. There's no reason to think KLC has any special connection to any of these songs. The album just covers most of its bases as a formulaic country record. It's a bunch of not bad to good songs delivered by a capable singer with a pleasing voice. But there's no sense that you're getting anything here that another good female country vocalist couldn't deliver. And the (over)production is typically country-pop, often overcoming KLC's voice. I don't know. It's not that this album is bad or unlistenable, for the most part. It's just that I think Arista Nashville could have done more with what they had, and this comes off as a cynical and perfunctory effort instead. I don't see the need for the rush...it doesn't seem like Kristy Lee Cook has this massive Idol fanbase that is going to carry this album to big first-week sales, and there has been nothing done to redress the notion that this album was slapped together quickly with little regard for individual artistry. I think there is a core of a good album here and wish all parties had been willing to take some more time to develop it. Incidentally, for anyone who is wondering, here are the writing credits for the songs on Why Wait (all credits are in alphabetical order): "15 Minutes of Shame" (Kelly Archer/Casey Koesel/Justin Weaver) "Why Wait" (Victoria Banks/Rachel Proctor/Jesse Lee) "Like My Mother Does" (Nathan Chapman/Liz Rose/Nicole Williams) "Hoping to Find" (Leah Crutchfield/Heather Morgan) "Baby Believe" (Robin Lerner/Jamie O'Neal/Annie Roboff) "Not Tonight" (Brett James/Chris Lindsey/Carrie Underwood) "Plant the Seed" (Jon Henderson/Coley McCabe) "I Think Too Much" (Ashley Gorley/Kelley Lovelace/Bryan Simpson) "Homesick" (Clay Mills/Rachel Proctor) "God Bless the USA" (Lee Greenwood)

i am really loving "Plant The Seed" the most now. its very different and she sounds fantastic on it! i read something in Sunday School yesterday in 1 Corinthians chapter 3, verse 6ish and it was talking about something about people planting and God giving them reward for their work. I don't know if it was talking literally about planting crops or just as an example like in "PTS", but it made me like the song more.
i think "Plant The Seed" should be single #2, "I Think Too Much" as single #3, and "Not Tonight" as single #4. those 3 are my favorites on the album.

Arista played the cards all wrong... The girl did not have ANY promotion... not even a video for her single...
How in earth they expected her to do well in the carts...it just annoys me... her cd is good and deserves to do fine.

^ But that's the whole reason that they signed her, because they hoped she would sell some records b/c of name recognition off of AI and they wouldn't have to spend any money on promotion. It won't have the big debut b/c of that strategy, but if this song performs well on the chart, sales will climb and no one will remember that it debuted so low. KLC is kind of getting the short side of the stick, but from Arista point of view it does make good business sense (and I imagine they would've passed on signing her if she needed a great deal of promotion, although that's purely speculative).

HDD is predicting "Why Wait" to sell just over 11,000 in its first week. Ouch. I didn't expect it to sell more than 30k since the single's not doing well and she has had little buzz or promotion but I didn't think it would do that bad.

I just hope Arista put some effort on it... do a video...send the other good songs as singles...she can do well. She is a good singer, her voice is better than a lot of other teen country singers (no names). Her cd is very good to listen to!
