As a Casey Kasem fan, I have always gravitated to the Top 40. I have noticed that many of this board care more about the Top 50. What is your main preoccupation

I think people just care about the Top 50 so much right now because its all that we can view on Mediabase at the moment.

I consider 50-41 to be like the "bubbling under" chart.
So, while I don't consider anything to be a pop hit until it hits the top 40, it's nice to see which songs are taking off and which songs came close to being hits.

And I miss my top 100 Mediabase charts! 41-100 were my "bubbling under" so to speak...

^^ Yup... Not to mention "Pop" radio has usually been also known as "top 40" radio over the years.

I do care about Top 40 songs most, but it's always nice to see to see what's up and coming, and even 50 isn't quite enough. :(

The top 50 is completely meaningless now that Mediabase arbitrarily removes songs once they drop out of the top 40. The #50 song would typically somewhere around #55-65 if they maintained the 20/20 recurrent rule.

Top 40 most definitely! These days it is a big deal if your song even makes it into the top 40.

Only thing about showin the Top 50 IMO is that at least a whole lotta songs geared towards Hot AC (like the Goo Goo Dolls entire last CD) at least show up on the CHR chart, even if they can't crack the Top 40
Agree that it's not really a CHR hit until it cracks the Top 40 though IMO...

I'm not sure, but I have been a staunch opponent to any type of recurrent rule whatsoever on any chart. Back in the day when I did the Sans Recurrent Rules charts for AC and HAC, you could definitely see what songs AC stations hung onto FOREVER. Truly a reflection of the state of radio, rather than these recurrent rules that distort what radio is playing.

Top 40, unless it goes to Top 30 for Hollywood Hamilton and maybe Ryan Seacrest if his AT40 isn't canned!
