Paramore Has 'Good Ideas' For 'Riot' Follow-UpAugust 08, 2008 , 11:15 AM ET Gary Graff, Detroit With its the Final Riot! Tour in motion, Paramore is using soundchecks to work on new material for the follow-up to its platinum 2007 sophomore album "Riot." Guitarist Josh Farro tells Billboard.com that the group has "anywhere from seven to 10 songs... they're not complete, but they're really good ideas I think we have a good chance of using. It's mainly just music that I've written and Hayley (Williams, Paramore's singer) has some lyrics and melodies. She's kind of just waiting on me to finish my musical ideas before I can give them to her. It's a slow process" Farro says he expects the group to start working in earnest on its third album this fall, after coming off the road. He hopes to be in the studio by January and have the album out by mid-2009. No producer has been chosen yet, but Farro says that "a lot of people are interested, a lot of big-name guys we're going to meet with. It feels pretty good to have some big-name producers that really want to record you're band, but... I think we're gonna wait 'til we have some actual songs that are finished." The new songs, according to the guitarist, are a varied bunch. "I can just see it having a lot more dynamics," Farro predicts. "The first record (2005's 'All We Know is Falling') and 'Riot!' seemed to stay at the same level, but now we've got some really, really mellow songs that you'd never expect to hear out of our band, and then we've got even heavier songs than we've ever had. It's gonna be a little different." Farro also acknowledges that there's "a ton of pressure" on the next album, which the group is trying to keep at bay. "('Riot!') went platinum, which means we've got to beat that or at least match it, and that's a hard thing to do these days," Farro says. "So we want to make sure we make the right record. But if we don't make platinum on the next record, we're not gonna be all upset or anything. We're just gonna make a record we love. If it doesn't do well, there's not much we can do. We're just here to make music we love." Before the next album, however, fans may get a DVD from the Last Riot! Tour. Farro says a friend is on the road filming shows and videotaping behind the scenes, and he expects the footage to be released in some form.

Yay for "mellow songs"! I love Riot but Josh is right that it was a little one-note. And I'm sure they could knock it out of the park with a true ballad.
Anyway, I'm beyond excited for this.

I'm excited for the new album, and I'd love the DVD to be released too! They're coming to Mexico on October, the concert I could go is October 14... but I don't think I will make it, so I need a DVD They want to go to the studio in January, so they still can release a last single from Riot! Riot! is one of my favorite albums in the past year.

Hayley Williams Talks New Paramore Album"I don't want to turn into this dark band," the punk banshee tells SPIN.com of the band's post-Twilight music. By William Goodman 12.03.08 12:44 PM Now that Twilight has conquered America's eyes and ears, Nashville punk band Paramore, who contributed two new songs to the vampire movie's chart-topping soundtrack, is finally ready to return to the studio to record the follow up to 2007's Riot!. But, dear Twilight fans, don't expect a repeat of the goth-ish "Decode." "I don't want to turn into this dark band," frontwoman Hayley Williams tells SPIN.com. "I don't want that to be us all the time, because I really love our more energetic songs that are poppier and catchier. But I think there'll definitely be some of that sound -- but that's definitely not going to be all of it!" Currently Paramore are at home in Nashville, taking a break from a long and tumultuous 2007, a year that saw the band tour exhaustively, which resulted in messy band in-fighting and speculation of a split. All the drama, explains Williams, has fueled much of the lyrical content for the forthcoming record. "It's just been relationships within the band," she says. "We're a bunch of friends that have grown up together playing music, and you get to the point on the road where it's all business. It's a very hard thing to mix. We've learned a lot about friendships, and we've learned a lot about relationships in general, and that'll definitely be a part of the record." As for the songs, they're still coming together. "Josh [Farro, lead guitarist] and I are getting together and writing. We've had a crazy year. But at the same time, we're really excited to write new material." And when the songs are complete, Paramore -- who traveled to New Jersey to record Riot! -- plan to stay put. "We want to record in Nashville. We've never recorded in our hometown." Rhythm guitarist Taylor York -- an unofficial, touring member of the band -- will be on in on the sessions too. [Taylor's] definitely going to be working on the record," Williams explains. "He's a great writer and a great performer. But we're trying to be cautious and make sure it's what he wants, and make sure everyone's on the same page before we make it absolutely official." So when can fans expect new material? We want to get it out by the end of the summer," Williams shouts. "Oh yeah, definitely!" Paramore's Hayley Williams On Next LP: 'I've Got A Lot That I Want To Get Out''We're trying to figure out how far we can go with it but still keep it Paramore,' bassist Jeremy Davis says. By James Montgomery Dec 29 2008 8:00 AM EST It sounds like we're getting close to a new Paramore album. Or, you know, at least closer. For months, Paramore have maintained that they were in "the very early stages" (or,"stage 0.5," to be exact) of work on the follow-up to their Riot! album, with guitarist Josh Farro working on "tons of ideas" and frontwoman Hayley Williams penning fragments of lyrics based on the rather tumultuous year the band has endured. But nothing appeared to be set in stone. Then, in early December, Williams told Spin magazine that the band had decided to record the album in Nashville and hoped to have it in stores by next summer. So, when MTV News caught up with the band backstage at KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas in Los Angeles, we decided to get a status update. And it sounds like things are finally starting to come together. "[We've been getting inspired by] life, really. It's not one specific instance or record or book or anything. We're constantly taking in new music -- that's what we're passionate about -- but I think life has given us a lot to say, and I'm really excited," Williams said. "Josh has been writing really cool riffs and really cool music that I can't wait to write over. Lyrically, I think it's going to be a very different record -- we've learned a lot about relationships and friendships and life in general, and I'm stoked because I don't really know what I'm going to say about it, but I've got a lot that I want to get out." And just what will the album sound like? Well, Farro wouldn't say, but according to bassist Jeremy Davis, it could be an all-over-the-map affair. Or, you know, just another Paramore album. "I think everyone's just growing, you know? Growing up. And I feel like we all kind of know what the Paramore sound is, but we're all experimenting and trying to figure out how far we can go with it but still keep it Paramore," he said. "We've all been getting into different music ourselves, which is just going to be better in the long run. When we get into the studio, there's going to be a lot more different things going on." When the band does head into the studio in '09, it sounds like it's going to be all business -- which is only more good news for Paramore fans hungering for a new album. "I mean, this last record did really well, and it's not that we didn't appreciate it, but we always want to do better," drummer Zac Farro said. "Just because we did well on the last one, we don't think we can go in and make a great record without having to try. We're going to work just as hard, if not harder, this time around."

I saw them last weekend opening for ND and one of the new tracks they played sounded like it had big potential, with a piano hook towards the end.

I just heard the live version of 'Ignorance', and I think it sounds a little bit like 'Fences'... and, having in mind that I wanted Fences as a single from Riot!, I'm very pleased with it LOL

I honestly dislike the new single. I also thought it sounded like a 'Fences' x 'Misery Business' rehash. Not impressed.
I hope the rest of the album will sound fresher than this, or I'll be sorely disappointed. 'Decode' was infinitely better than 'Ignorance' lol.

Out of the two new songs, I can't for the life of me understand why they chose "Ignorance" as the new single. "Where the Lines Overlap" is infinitely better!

I like Ignorance. It sounds messy and cluttered in parts, but the chorus is solid.
Decode is still better though.

Even Riot's bonus tracks were stronger and better as a lead single than this... mixing Riot with AWKIS doesn't equel greatness. pick one sound and stick with it.

What were the bonus tracks to Riot? "Stop This Song (Lovesick Melody)" and "Decoy" weren't necessarily bonus tracks, they were leftovers and sometimes considered "B Sides" I guess. Paramore played both tracks on tour though.

Billboard:
ARTIST: PARAMORE
ALBUM: BRAND NEW EYES (Fueled by Ramen)
Paramore has flirted with rock stardom in the past few years, thanks to hits like "Misery Business," "That's What You Get" and "Decode." But the band's new album, "Brand New Eyes," marks its full-fledged introduction to rock's elite class. Past efforts have fallen short of fulfilling Paramore's potential, but the band has redefined its sound -- a blend of fast-paced rock and upbeat picture-perfect pop, with both styles buoyed by monster sing-along choruses. The best parts of "Brand New Eyes" come when the guitars and lyrical themes are heavy. But thankfully, very little here carries the same Hot Topic mentality that crept into "Decode," Paramore's contribution to the "Twilight" soundtrack. Although the new set may lack the wide-eyed naivete that made the group's past efforts so endearing, the newfound maturity makes for a compelling set.

Just listened to the full album. After just one listen I can say that the album as a whole is not as catchy or pop as "Riot!" is. However, the song lyrics are amazing and really deep. I'm sure the cd will definitely grow on me and become one of my favorites, I'm just not sure if I will ever love it as much as "Riot!". Definitely worth the purchase, though, very solid album.
Standout tracks: Looking Up Where The Lines Overlap Misguided Ghosts All I Wanted

Aside from 'Ignorance' and 'Brick By Boring Brick' (which is apparently the 2nd single) the other two songs that have leapt out at me are 'Turn It Off' and 'All I Wanted'.
