I think Taylor will have a substantial shot next year, what with Fearless becoming a massive success and all. Maybe so... but you need to be able to sing live to get the award I think...Just saying. If the award was determined purely by vocal ability Martina Mcbride would have won every year.

I was looking forward to Kenny singing "Three Little Birds" (one of my favorite non-country songs), but that seemed kind of awkward.

Funny, the live CMT blog said the same thing about pure vocal abilty but would give it to Alison Krauss every year. Vocal ability is so subjective but to be given it 3 times in a row says something. Maybe so... but you need to be able to sing live to get the award I think...Just saying. If the award was determined purely by vocal ability Martina Mcbride would have won every year.

Award: Album Of The Year - Troubadour by George Strait Wow, I can't believe Alan didn't win. I thought for sure it would go to Alan. I thought Troubadour was a good album (with several standout tracks) but it lacked the depth and commitment to traditionalism (or at least contemporary traditionalism) that Alan's had. Regardless though, I'm pleased to see it go an artist that put out an actual "country" album (current single aside).

Well her uncanny ability to stand in one place and raise her arms while looking up toward Jesus anticipating the rapture probably loses her a few votes. She's like a robot programmed with one move when performing.

Sugarland sounded great (as always) but I just didn't understand why they had to sing their WORST song to date?

I love Taylor, but she's not going to be able to compete vocally with the other ladies. She has MAJOR other strong points, though...that's why she's so huge now.

Vocals are all subjective. Some may say Taylor can't sing worth a lick others may love her voice. 600,000 others. lol Anyways I remember people arguing with me last year saying that Female Vocalist Of The Year had much, much more to do with than who had the best or biggest voice. Even if Taylor doesn't have huge range that doesn't mean she doesn't deserve the award. Female Vocalist Of The Year is supposed to encompass everything right? Well Taylor is clearly the biggest female country act out at the moment and deserves her place among the nominations just as much as any of the other females listed.

For the love of god people, take your Taylor Swift arguments elsewhere. This is a thread about the awards and your impressions, not a pointless cyclical debate about Taylor's singing chops. Grrr

I'm wondering what percentage of the population over 22 would say she can sing and those under that give her vocal chops. I would bet the same amount that think the Jonas Brothers can sing. As for her accolades and being the biggest thing out there right now, the ACMs would be a better fit for an award of this caliber. Just saying..... Vocals are all subjective. Some may say Taylor can't sing worth a lick others may love her voice. 600,000 others. lol Anyways I remember people arguing with me last year saying that Female Vocalist Of The Year had much, much more to do with than who had the best or biggest voice. Well, this thread was going great. I knew it was doomed for disaster eventually. At least it wasn't until towards the end of the show. I'm actually impressed considering I expected it would be sooner.

OK, it's like this. I don't have the energy for babysitting.
So all the Carrie fans and the Taylor fans who don't drop their grade school level back & forth with the little digs at each other's faves are going to be suspended for oh, I don't know, a day, a week, whatever I feel like, for any further sniping in this thread.
So drop it. Now.
If you're in here to be a fanboy or a fangirl and argue the case for your fave, don't. If you're here to discuss the awards show and voting dynamics like a rational adult, fine. I'm sick of the fanboys and fangirls driving out the smart people.

Me too! I would LOVE to see Shania perform a new song. But I think she is just going to be the mystery presenter that they keep talking about. It's pretty obvious now that she just came to present EOTY again. (As I said before, I believe this is her 4th time presenting this award.) Shania didn't do interviews on the red carpet, but she did walk the carpet for photos. These are from the Shania Boards:Photo # 2

Keith is a far superior entertainer and concert performer to Kenny, but I guess there's a definite persuasive argument to the sheer volume of fans he brings in every year. Props to him.

Overall, it was a good show (for performances) but the awards were predictable.

Wow...what a flippin' surprise.
Oh well, at least my faves won some awards and I got to see them perform, other than that it was quite lackluster and drawn out. They need to lessen the # of performers and fire the 2 hosts.

So the big "surprise" performer was Reba? Really?? Lame...
