Aw, I was really pulling for Sugarland to win. Oh well, congrats Kenny! Me too. Shania looked amazing. Can't wait to hear news about her new release! On a side note I am growing tired of one aspect of the CMA awards. Almost every award has become so predictable. I literally guessed 95% of the award winners correctly. There is never a shock, it usually always leaves me with a "Oh, didn't see that one coming feeling."

So the big "surprise" performer was Reba? Really?? Lame... I couldn't agree with you more. 2 surprises that weren't even suprises if you ask me.

I guessed every single award winner correctly, aside from New Artist (I thought either Kellie or Rodney had it in the bag, so Lady A was a bit of a surprise). As for the rest of the show, I liked most of the performances. My favorites were definitely Kellie, Rodney and Jason, though. The three of them really did a great job, and I LOVED their respective songs.

Since I imagine the Springstein rumor didn't come out of thin air, I wonder if he canceled or wasn't able to attend or something, and they just went along as if nothing happened (which they wouldn't have had much choice).

Well, when Julianne interviewed Kid Rock on the red carpet special he stated he had a special guest playing with him, so not really sure what happened there.

The surprise -- unfortunately -- was that there was no surprise guest. I really don't think Reba would be considered a surprise.

I missed my LeAnn. I know. How great would a performance of "What I Cannot Change" have been? *sigh*

Thank you, sbp, for the updates. I GREATLY appreciate it.
I missed absolutely nothing. The ONLY performance I would have liked to see is "More Like Her". I'm more than sure it was the best one of the night.
And the awards.... yeah, VERY predictable - as always.
OH, and Shania looked STUNNING! As always. I caught the tail end of the show, from the Eagles performance to Kenny's shocking win.
I don't know why Shania didn't HOST the show though. Now THAT would have been just as good as her performing (assuming she doesn't have a new song ready). But her presenting EOTY is getting old. She should feel offended for being asked to present the same award at every award show and never performing or hosting.

Overall I thought it was a pretty great show.
Favorite Performance of the night = Carrie Underwood's Just A Dream She's flawless. Even though it seemed like she had a little trouble getting through (due to tearing up), she never fails to knock it out of the park. Her standing there with just the mic and the audience proved to be more powerful and entertaining than the rest of the performers tonight with all their sets, lights and effects. That says a hell of alot in my book.
Least Favorite = Taylor Swift's Love Story I'm sorry, and I know that some disagree, but she's pretty terrible vocally. People were complaining that the band was too loud ...that wasn't it. They just had the mic turned down because she was more-less talking through the song rather than singing it. As much as I love her and her music, I don't think I could bare the thought of her ever winning a FVOTY award (at least not anytime soon)
And why is everybody bagging on the hosting? Try and understand how hard that had to of been. I thought they BOTH did amazing and would love to see them back next year. It was refreshing to see the top voices of country take over the show.

Apparently Lil' Wayne was suppose to perform with Kid Rock.
Seriously.
But for whatever reason, he didn't show up.

I thought the show was fairly good this year. Brad and Carrie weren't the most natural hosts, but they did a good enough job. The awards were quite predictable, but also I think mostly deserved. There wasn't one winner who I felt didn't deserve their award - the closest would be Album of the Year, but I've only heard the singles and not the whole thing, so maybe there's some great stuff hidden there.
It was really nice to see Shania - she looked amazing. It would have been nice to have her do something else as well, but she really hasn't been active for about 4 years, so I can understand why she only presented the award.
I think the performances were mostly good. Highlights for me were Martina McBride's "Ride", Carrie Underwood's "Just A Dream" (even though I don't really care for the song), Kenny Chesney & The Wailers, Brad Paisley & Keith Urban (both together, and solo - the guitar playing on "Start A Band" was fantastic) and Sugarland. Although again, "Love" is one of my least favorites on the album, so I hope this isn't a sign that it's going to be a single. They're amazing live, though, and can sell pretty much anything. It was nice to see Reba & Brooks & Dunn sing together, however it was unfortunate that her mic wasn't working for the first bit.
No one stood out to me as giving a bad performance, though my least favorites were James Otto, Darius Rucker (something seemed missing with his), George Strait and Alan Jackson (though that could have been song choice more than anything).
All in all, it was one of my favorite country awards shows in awhile.

That actually doesn't surprise me, since Kid Rock kept yelling "Lil Wayne" throughout the song. Though it could have been interesting to see some of the stars' reactions, I'm glad that didn't happen.

So why is everyone talking about there being no surprise performer? Obviously it was him. A crappy surprise performer, but a surprise performer nonetheless.

I love Taylor, but her performance was easily the worst of the night vocally. I was pretty disappointed.

I thought they dispersed the awards fairly evenly. I was sad to see Trace not get an award for his song, but single/song was tough this year and I'm thrilled Stay got song.
That was my first time hearing George's new song. Yuck! Boring.
I enjoyed Kid Rock's performance. I really like that song and thought he did great, although his voice was a little rough.
Hats off to Miranda. She looked stunning and that was by far my favorite performance of the night. She nailed that song. It was so great to her a stripped down performance. I thought she sounded absolutely fantastic. I'm hoping for many awards to come in her near future.
Kellie's dress--OMG!
Darius did a great job performing. Carrie did fantastic as always singing and she impressed me as a host. She seemed quite relaxed and natural.
Keith's performance was awesome. Really liking the new single. Start a Band was fun.
I enjoyed the whole show. I'm getting tired of Kenny taking Entertainer though. I know he deserves it but 4 years is getting old. I think Sugarland's time will come soon enough.

OMG Taylor sounded like sh*t. She doesn't have a shot at Female Vocalist with crappy performances like that.
Miranda was devastating. Great song.

My favorite performances were Carrie's and Brad's...how ironic they were the two hosts ;) But dear God...Carrie's performance was everything i always wanted and more. She showed so much maturity, connection to the song, and just RAW emotion. Easily one of the best performances to come from the CMAs in a LONG time. On the other hand, I feel like the younger generation of the group is lacking in that vocal talent. While Taylor's songs all are very catchy and well-crafted, her singing live is just.....not up to par with really any of the nominated vocalists. Also, WTH kid rock? Yet I think with Taylor and Kid Rock being outliers, all the other performances were very well done!

I slept through Carrie's performance. It was boring and the little introduction we had was the only reason I can see anyone liking it. granted that Taylor didn't sound perfect vocally speaking, she's way more than a singer, she truly is it. and I don't think she sounded bad vocally, just her mic was really really low and she wasn't screaming like some ;) easily the best of the night for me.
Congratulations, Taylor Swift super-fan. Enjoy your time off from the board. -dudley

Shania...just stunning...she defies time. I think I would have preferred to see Alan win over George in the album category but whatever. Performance of the nite JAD...very close second...Miranda Lambert, who I think is one of the most under rated talents in country music.

Watching Taylor Swift live was unsettling. I think she is a great songwriter and her records sound great on the radio, but whenever she sings live I feel bad for her. I think at some point that will catch up with her.

Anyone have a streaming link to Miranda's performance? I want to see it badly, but can't find it anywhere.

Well Taylor is clearly the biggest female country act out at the moment and deserves her place among the nominations just as much as any of the other females listed. shania never won fvoty when she was the hottest and biggest country female act, bar none. instead, it went to the likes of faith hill, martina mcbride, even lee ann womack, i think.... speaking of shania, it was great to see her last night. but i hope they just don't resort her to presenting the last award. a performance would have been nice too. i know she doesnt have new songs of late, so i think a duet with someone would have worked. my first fave performance of the night was miranda's. i'm really starting to like her and appreciate her more as an artist. carrie was singing through a track, right? because if i remember, she was the only one who didn't have a band with her. overall, it was a good show. brad and carrie were good hosts. theyll be better if they get a chance to do it again. winners were predictable but like someone said, you cant really say theyre not deserved. i was also pulling for another artist to get eoty. but after kenny didnt get anything so far after getting 7 noms, theres no way theyre gonna make him go home empty-handed. speaking of kenny, that ew review was hilarious! how many times did kenny do that headsnap-to-the-side thing during the song?! and that looked a bit painful to me, esp since it looked like he snaps his head and not just turns his head to the side.
