Take this with a grain of salt, but according to a radio report by a country-gossip-blogger, there are actually 3 surprise guests. He names the first one who will definitely be there -- Shania Twain. He points out as evidence (in addition to the "tips" he's gotten) the fact that she's giving away a pair of CMA tickets on her site and the last time she did this was 2005, when she also appeared at the show.

And the announcement that Taylor will be presenting makes me think she'll be introducing Kellie's performance instead of performing with her. You know, she could be presenting New Artist Award. As long as I can remember the winner of that award presents it the following year. Carrie won it in 2006 and presented in 2007. Dierks won in 2005 and he presented it in 2006. I want to say I can remember it being this was since 2002 at least when Keith won the year prior and presented it.

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted. I'm sure that's what it is. But Dierks didn't present the Horizon award in 2006. Kellie Pickler and Billy Currington did. I was just thinking about that yesterday actually. And how cool it would be if Taylor presented the award to Kellie this year since Kellie presented it to Carrie, then Carrie to Taylor.

That's right! I kept thinking Dierks did. I remember him presenting though. Sorry about the mix up there!

^ we don't know if kellie is going to win though. Rodney and Lady Antebellum have a pretty good chance too.
I am very surprised to hear that Rascal Flats is not performing. What is up with that? First they got snubbed for Entertainer, and now they are denied a performance slot? odd.

I wish Darius Rucker were performing as he has one hell of a voice. But at least he is presenting. I am surprised about Rascal Flats. Not saying they are always good live- but they are better then some (vocally) that is for sure. So it looks like this is the final list of performers: Alan Jackson - "Country Boy"Brad Paisley and Keith Urban - "Start a Band"Brooks & Dunn - "Cowgirls Don't Cry"Carrie Underwood - "Just a Dream"The Eagles - ??George Strait - "Troubadour" or "River of Love"James Otto - "Just Got Started Lovin' You" Jason Aldean - "She's Country"(new single)Keith Urban - "Sweet Thing"(new single)Kellie Pickler - "Best Days of Your Life"Kenny Chesney (ft. the Wailers) - "Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven"Kid Rock - "All Summer Long"Lady Antebellum - "Lookin' For A Good Time"Martina McBride - "Ride"(new single) Miranda Lambert - "More Like Her"Rodney Atkins - "It's America"(new single)Sugarland - "Already Gone"Taylor Swift - "Love Story"Trace Adkins - "Muddy Water"If you include the surprise performer, that's 20. Same number as last year. Kinda surprised Rascal Flatts isn't performing. Definitely not disappointed though. And the announcement that Taylor will be presenting makes me think she'll be introducing Kellie's performance instead of performing with her.

^ RF weren't denied a performance slot. It was their choice.. Gary, said they were taking a break this year and not performing.. They just got off the road and have been busy working on a new album. :)

Darius Rucker fans get their wish. Instead of presenting, he will be performing at the CMAs. Additional presenters have also been announced. www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/11-07-2008/0004920880&EDATE=NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- CMA announced additional performers and presenters today for "The 42nd Annual CMA Awards." Darius Rucker, previously announced as a presenter, will instead give his debut CMA Awards performance. New presenters added to the lineup are Vince Gill, Julianne Hough, Jake Owen, John Rich, and Jimmy Wayne. "The 42nd Annual CMA Awards" airs live from the Sommet Center in Nashville, Wednesday, Nov. 12 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Do we know for sure that the surprise guest is performing? There's already 20 scheduled performances (same as last year) and the CMA commercial I saw the other night said there would be a surprise appearance that everyone would be talking about but no mention of them performing.

The press release out today says "plus a surprise performance.." and also "plus a surprise appearance..."

So I guess Rodney's new single "It's America" is a better song than the boring title suggests. Or at least Bruce Springsteen thinks so. Apparently he's the surprise performer and will be performing the new song with Rodney. I guess Shania will be the special guest that's not performing. In other CMA news, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman have been added to the list of presenters. LINK

Oh sigh Hugh Jackman that is worth watching... I my self always enjoy the CMA awrards. I get a chance to see artist I don't always get to see. Show always has a lot of good performances, Brad can be a hoot so like to see how he is as a host. Looking forward to seeing Darius performing, Wont miss RF

I really wish Julianne Hough, Luke Bryan and Jessica Simpson were performing. I'm actually surprised that Jess isn't even presenting. I figured Papa Joe would sell his soul to the devil to get her on the show somehow.

I cannot believe Bruce springsteen will be there- holy crap. lol That is pretty unexpected. I hope Carrie gets to meet him- seeing as she is the host.I love Hugh Jackman too, and Nicole Kidman, so that is great news.
How come it is not being broadcast in teh UK? The BBC reporters are always there. Any UK fans here that have any info on that?
Apparently someone saw Carrie's rehearsal today and it was amazing. She is doing JAD, and it will be a very moving military tribute type thing. That is all I know.

Reba will also be performing according to the latest CMA commercials. According to this site, she'll be joining Brooks & Dunn for "Cowgirls Don't Cry". So many collaborations this year... Rodney Atkins and Bruce Springsteen Brad Paisley and Keith Urban Brooks & Dunn and Reba McEntire Kenny Chesney and The Wailers Kellie Pickler and Taylor Swift (possibly)

Shania is probably presenting EOTY? That would be my guess. I'd actually have her introduce the hosts and then come back at the end of the show and present the EOTY award.

Of course it isn't surprising that Emerson Drive isn't performing and it is no wonder they've never really broken through since they never have performed on a major US awards show.

Brad and Keith will play together, and both will play separately. So we are getting more than 20 performances from 20 performers.

Emerson Drive hasn't broken out because they've never performed on a major U.S. awards show? Sorry, not buying that. That is not the only reason but getting national TV exposure to an audience of 14 million or so would help with promotion. Other reasons include radio being fickle and their label collapsing. It is a combination of things not related to actually talent because they are very talented and if it was based on talent alone they would be as big as Rascal Flatts.

(although i REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that i am wrong ) No. But he and his band are performing at a pre-CMA show tomorrow, I believe. Rumor is the surprise performer is Bruce Springsteen. He'll be performing with Rodney Atkins.
