I don't think a standing ovation is reason for winning an award. Me neither.

Didn't Miranda win without a top 15 ? just saying. Miranda Lambert never won the CMA Horizon Award. She was nominated in 2005 when Dierks Bentley won in that category, and again in 2006 when Carrie Underwood won in that category. If commercial considerations alone determined the New Artist of the Year category, which they don't, then I agree with kw9461 that Rodney Atkins would be the frontrunner by far, especially looking at the eligibility period. To the extent that artistic merit is considered, I think James Otto made by far the best album among the nominees and he and Lady A's Charles Kelley probably have the strongest voices among the nominees. Kellie did turn in an emotionally compelling performance at the CMAs last year, but she has hurt her cause with a sophomore album lead single that didn't make too much of an impression and an album that, while garnering decent reviews, hasn't really revived her buzz. I don't think this is a particularly strong group of nominees, to be honest. Certainly not compared to 2006 when you had Carrie, Josh Turner, Little Big Town, Miranda and Sugarland up for the Horizon Award. Or for that matter, 2005, when you had Dierks, Miranda, Sugarland, Julie Roberts & Big & Rich up for the award. Which also goes to show that there are some seriously compelling career acts who have managed more than fine without winning the Horizon/New Artist award.

^ I am sure Taylor will perform Love Story though.
I really hope Carrie does Just a Dream, and that they make it really special with military personnel, etc-- as Veteran's Day is just 2 days prior to the awards ceremony. It is the perfect song for Veteran's Day.

It is the perfect song for Veteran's Day. I hope she doesn't include military personnel. It would be awkward given the lyrics. I think she should just perform the song acoustically. That's touching enough.

Full-on production is nice, but she ends up competing with the production and Carrie is going to end up straining her voice if she keeps fighting the band. I say she gets someone to play guitar and then sits her pretty, little butt down and sings the hell out of that song. It would be EPIC.

^ I am sure Taylor will perform Love Story though. Of course she'll have her own performance. But I think she'll also join Kellie for "Best Days" singing bg vocals. And if they want her more involved, maybe have her play the guitar too.

I wonder if Jason Aldean will be performing the lead single from his next album? Also, nice to see James Otto get a slot. I hope he does "These Are The Good Ole Days," but I'm thinking he'll do "Just Got Started Lovin' You."

So it looks like this is the final list of performers:
Alan Jackson - "Country Boy" Brad Paisley and Keith Urban - "Start a Band" Brooks & Dunn - "Cowgirls Don't Cry" Carrie Underwood - "Just a Dream" The Eagles - ?? George Strait - "Troubadour" or "River of Love" James Otto - "Just Got Started Lovin' You" Jason Aldean - "She's Country"(new single) Keith Urban - "Sweet Thing"(new single) Kellie Pickler - "Best Days of Your Life" Kenny Chesney (ft. the Wailers) - "Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven" Kid Rock - "All Summer Long" Lady Antebellum - "Lookin' For A Good Time" Martina McBride - "Ride"(new single) Miranda Lambert - "More Like Her" Rodney Atkins - "It's America"(new single) Sugarland - "Already Gone" Taylor Swift - "Love Story" Trace Adkins - "Muddy Water"
If you include the surprise performer, that's 20. Same number as last year. Kinda surprised Rascal Flatts isn't performing. Definitely not disappointed though.
And the announcement that Taylor will be presenting makes me think she'll be introducing Kellie's performance instead of performing with her.

I'm pretty sure Rodney will be performing his new single (which I believe is rumored to be "Worst 15 Minutes").

Keith is also performing alone. Good. I was hoping he'd do his new single. So this is definitely the final list then. Including the surprise performer, that's 20.

Is that the final press release though? Seems the announced presenters are too few. Maybe they can sneak in one more announcement next Monday, which should include Rascal Flatts as a performer. I'm not a big fan, but give credit where credit is due -- the Flatts boys are currently superstars. If they don't perform, it brings up a whole lot of issues... "Were they not invited to perform by the CMA? No EOTY nom AND no invitation to perform?" On the other side of the coin: "Were they invited to perform but declined the invitation? Are they really thumbing their nose(s) at the CMA? If so, the team of Tim-Faith-Toby now have new members." I'm also waiting (ahem, dreading) the announcement of Jessica Simpson as a presenter. C'mon, it's a big country event... would you really expect anything less from Papa Joe?

Is that the final press release though? Seems the announced presenters are too few. Not the final press release. There's still presenters yet to be announced. But I think they're done with performers. By the way, I saw on another site that Shania's fan club is having a CMA ticket giveaway... EDIT: And apparently The Eagles performed "How Long" last year so I have no idea what they'll be performing this year.

This list is almost identical to the performers last year. That's really disappointing...

As for the surprise performer, I wish it was the Dixie Chicks, but I know that's impossible. I watched "An Evening with..." last night and was reminded yet again of how brilliant and mad talented they are and how much I miss them. Sigh!
Realistically speaking, the "surprise performer/appearance" always seems to be Shania. So if it's her, it would be a not-really-a-surprise surprise.
The hints I've been seeing around are that the person and the reason for his/her being there will get everyone buzzing. So it could be:
1) Shania to perform a new single; or... wait for it.... 2) Kevin Costner and his country band. Tadaaah! [3) Joe the Plumber??]
Boo if it's Kevin. Give the much-coveted slot to Darius Rucker instead... or Jamey Johnson. Well, at least those looking for a change from the usual (and I don't just mean you, SGG) will get someone new. Here, have Kevin! :)

I'm surprised they are keeping this surprise business so secret, because if it was a big name like Shania, wouldn't the network want people to know that she was going to be performing?
The boring list of performers is why I haven't watched the CMA's in probably 3 or 4 years. It's the same artists performing songs i've heard a million times prior (although it's nice to see a few artists are planning on debuting new songs). Does anyone know if the Horizon nominees (or whatever it's being called these days) get to sing an entire song, or do they have to cut out half the song like they used to? If they do hack it up, then I doubt Jason Aldean or Rodney Atkins will be debuting anything new.

There's an ad in yesterday's CountryAircheck that says "Watch the CMA Awards to catch Rodney Atkins debut his new single".

I don't see why they would only perform partial songs this year. I think it was the ACM's that use to do that.

The CMA's used to have a slot for up and coming artists who they think will make a splash, and only one per year. The chosen one gets to sing a portion of his/her song. I remember Carrie doing a truncated version of "Jesus, Take the Wheel" in 2005 and I think it was Miranda who had the slot the year before that.
I actually look forward to that to see who the CMA has their eye on, but they don't seem to do that anymore.

i hope Rodney's new song isn't called "Worst 15 Minutes". we dont need 2 songs about 15 Minutes on the chart at the same time.

After further reading, it looks like Rodney's new single will be a song that he has not played in concert. That rules out "Worst 15 Minutes."

Apparently, Rodney will be performing a new song called "It's America" and it will ship to radio after the show.

Jason Aldean debuts a brand new single, "She's Country" when he performs on the 42nd Annual CMA show, Wednesday night, November 12. It's the lead single from his upcoming but not yet titled album.

Rodney Atkins - "It's America" Jason Aldean - "She's Country" I hope the songs are more interesting than their titles...
