I like this song. Don't care if it sounds 'dated'. If I like a song, I like a song.
Thing it is isn't AMAZING like his other stuff but I can live with that.

If I don't every buy another GH from Michael Jackson in the next 100 years it'll be too soon. Adonis, I don't think I've ever seen you post anything positive about any artist! Why so negative? I thought you were just dogging Mariah all the time, but it seems not to be limited to her....

He posts positive commentary a lot, including about Michael Jackson. He's just honest when he doesn't like something; in fact, that seems to be especially true when one of his favorites disappoints him. But, just off the top of my head, I remember reading positive things recently about Janet Jackson and Gucci Mane. It's okay to be critical...

I don't think the opinion Adonis has of the song is the issue. Posting the same thing everywhere on this board is... ;)

Now Paul Anka is sueing for this piece of crap. Gosh, sony is sooo stoopid. Not only picking a shitty demo, but one with a credit issue. A damn shame.

I heard the whole thing, and that sample is the best part of it IMO. I like it, but it doesn't level with his past catalogue. Not that I expected that, but you'd want something from a farewell single. I think something like For All Time would've been a better choice in terms of production. Don't like the finger snaps over live instrumental either.

It's not a "sample." Paul Anka and MJ wrote this song together, Anka passed the song off to another group who recorded it under a different name, Sony picked it for the movie, renamed it, added all the instrumentation, etc... but there was a big brouhaha because Paul Anka was never given credit as the songwriter and now Anka is suing because they didn't give him a writing credit at all. Just MJ.

This is definitely a GRIFT (swindle) by SONY records. "Sony has rights to release any music Mr. Jackson recorded while under contract. But since there could be as many as two albumsβ worth of material made after that deal expired, around five years ago, other labels may also be able to cut deals, and the Jackson estate has held talks with Universal about those recordings, according to people familiar with the discussions but not authorized to speak publicly." According to the NY Times SONY didn't have the rights to Michael's new music which is why they had to use an old 1980's song as a new song.

Paul Anka is not suing, he got co-riter credit, it was an innocent mistake on the part of the Jackson estate
But yeah the song was recorded in 1983, Paul Anka is on piano

Oh my God... Paul Anka is talkin sooooo much shyte! I am FUMING right now. He stole the tapes out of my studio. I got my tapes back. Its resolved now. They realized its my song. They realized its my production of his vocal in my studio.
[Branca] said "Now we know why the song was so good ... it wasn't the type of Michael Jackson song that he could write." How can someone steal a song they cowrote? MJ stashed this song away because its a piece of shyte. He would have never released this as an album track, let alone a single! If Anka has to gripe with someone, its SONY. And yeah... "This Is It" is sooo much better than such crappy songs like "Billie Jean" and "Black or White." Yeah... MJ needed soooo much help from Anka to write a hit.

I'm allowed to say my opinions more than once in a thread. If I said I loved the song more than once in a thread no one would be complaining about it. In any case.... Reuters is saying that this song was a mistake. Here

The Jackson family probably went through Michael's things, thought all those songs were his, and to keep it secret, did no checking, etc.,- they are probably pissed finding out Anka is the co-writer because that halves their writing royalties and they could have picked a song that Michael wrote by himself. The song sucks anyway.

OMG, Forbes is sooo full of shyte! I watched their stoopid program about his finances. They said: And THEN they said: How can someone who's going to make $400 mil be worth more dead than alive? That logic applies to budding stars like Tupac and Curt Coban. NOT living legends like Michael Jackson. They need to wake up.

The 2 disc This Is It is available for pre-order on Amazon.com for just $9.99. I know many don't want to support that release for obvious reasons, but it's available for those who wish to. Get it hereAnd that The Remix Suite collection was issued by Motown yesterday. It features new remixes of some Jackson 5/early MJ songs. While this may not be for everyone, this one was a lot more enjoyable than I was expecting it to be. I'll use the word 'tasteful' when describing the collection. Get it here

Not a great song anyway, and that is probably why he "stole" it, cause obviously he could come up with much better material even as filler for an album, and he would never have released this song. I hope this serves as a lesson to others, seize and destroy any crappy demos you don't want released by greedy labels posthumously.

What is the difference between the $9.99 version and the $19.99 version of the "This Is It" album?

^ Who owns Michael's music, the estate or sony? I'm really curious. Sony controls solo material from Off The Wall album and onwards Motown/Universal controls solo material prior to Off The Wall Note. This is only Michael Jackson solo material discussion..
