[I hope this serves as a lesson to others, seize and destroy any crappy demos you don't want released by greedy labels posthumously. I never saw it this way before, but I'm actually starting to feel sorry for Tupac. They're always throwing his raps around everywhere. Who knows if he meant for that stuff to get out? And they put him on the songs of people he openly disliked. He was on Keyshia Cole's new song, and he never even knew the bitch. I'm afraid people are going to be raping MJ's likeness/catalogue like this. He'll be singing on all the rappers' hooks. :(

^ LOL, how? Pac died in 1996. Keyshia was like 14 when he died? Hmmm... never mind. I don't wanna know.

ESSENCE: Early in your career you went to Los Angeles and met legendary music producer Suge Knight and Tupac Shakur. What was that like? COLE: My brother was close with Pac, he got records with Pac and everything. And Pac’s mother is really cool with my brother and me. So to me, Pac was just like a big brother. That time was like one of the biggest moments in history, and I saw everything. I was with them in Malibu and Vegas and I stayed in the “big house” by myself. I knew the world, the whole industry, everything. I was only fourteen.

^ LOL, alright. At least its a relief to know she knew him- in a ~legal~ way. :) But you know what my point is- when he died, people could put his raps on whatever song they wanted, and he had no say. Seeing MJ's songs get used like this made me realize- "how would Pac feel about all these songs he's on?" Well, at least he got a better deal than Biggie. "It was all a dream."

Can't help but think that the single that should have been released with this project is 'Hold My Hand'.

HITS:
THE IT FACTOR: Based on Monday’s sales and a few early, hourly reads today, our abacus-wielding numbers-crunchers are calling Michael Jackson’s This Is It album on Epic at 300-350k. This guesstimate takes into account the expected surge in sales from the movie, which opens on 3k screens tomorrow, though the impact of the film won’t be truly known until the end of the week. Rotten tomatoes has the movie at 81%. I was sure it would be panned! Great reviews, and they're keeping it respectful!

Sony is so cheap. They should have licensed the Motown songs featured in the movie and include it on the "This Is It" CD.

Just saw the movie.
It was VERY well done.
It was part docco and mostly concert. They got the best parts from all the rehersals and put them together to show the man's, the genius's working methods with a lot of performing. It was a WONDERFUL way to send off the TRUE King Of Pop.
8/10

^ Who owns Michael's music, the estate or sony? I'm really curious. Sony controls solo material from Off The Wall album and onwards Motown/Universal controls solo material prior to Off The Wall Note. This is only Michael Jackson solo material discussion.. They don't own any of his music that he recorded after the Invincible album.

What is the last date of TII's run in theaters? Sony announced that "THIS IS IT" will be in US theaters through the Thanksgiving weekend. And overseas it will be on a country-by-country basis with the movie being extended one to three weeks.

Saw the movie today. Genius is all I can say. I can't even fathom the amount of money that went into the rehearsals and all of the people that were working on the project. I kept thinking how sad for all of the dancers, singers, musicians who were a part of this and never made it to opening night.
He looked good. He looked so young and his moves were still there. What a waste that he died so young.

The movie is very good and I'm usually objective, I liked it alot. You saw Michael more relaxed and more himself in a very long time. Usually in a Michael Jackson, he inserts about a hundred shots of people saying how much they love him and people screaming for him- there is nothing like that here- and that's what makes it seem real- it's not the packaged Michael. I was surprised, most of the songs he is actually singing, you can tell- and his voice sounds great- there are some notes that are too high for him and he strains a little but for the most part, he sounds great. Also, wow- he keeps up with all those young dancers, let me tell you, I don't know how he did it but he had just as much energy as they did and they are little firecrackers. His dancing is actually very great, he's amazing to watch. The whole thing seems intimate- no big movie/music stars interjecting every five minutes to say he's the greatest legend ever- it's just a very simple film, and I think it really pays off- the ending is very sad.

Just got back! The movie was A-MAZING! His face looked better than I've seen it look since like 1997 :o! His dancing was AMAZING- so smooth and liquid- its in his veins! His singing was sooo on point- like.... he sounded like it was 1982, I kid you not! ( >:( at $ony for not putting the live versons on the CD ). The live band was awesome. The dancers and musicians were on point! Honestly, I was surprised about how much I loved it. MJ was in great shape, and I'm not a sugercoater. He seemed happy and at ease. I love how he speaks- very young spirited and pure hearted. I think he's one of those people who has a hard time expressing himself with words- but his music is so universal- anyone can understand his message. He was such a special, beautiful person, inside and out. Bless his soul. Fans who are skeptical... GO SEE IT! You won't be disspaointed, it was really great!

The dancers and musicians were on point! When you see the movie then you realize that Sony did the right thing in not making a LIVE CD because Michael is a perfectionist. He was just rehearsing and there were some songs were he didn't sing them all the way or he was busy marking the spots in the dance routines or trying to get the band to do songs in a certain way. There were some songs were Michael sang them in full voice and there were others were he was just marking the songs since it was a rehearsal. I think Sony was trying to make the CD as cohesive as possible. My only complaints about the "THIS IS IT" album is that I think that Sony should have at least licensed the Motown songs featured in the movie to make the CD truly complete. And that they should have put the "THIS IS IT" single on the second disc.

^ I know he was a perfectionist, but let's not kid ourselves. MJ didn't know what was best for him (his career) 50% of the time.
I mean... those were some of the best vocal performances I've seen him give. IJSLY was better than on the Bad tour. Earth Song appeared to be live- you know he never did that one live. The only "weak" performance was WBSS, but he often sucked on that one so what's new? I mean, yeah he skipped some small lines, but they seemed to chop the rehearsals together, so if a part was missing from one rehearsal, they could have taken it from another one.
I remember thinking... WOW- if these versions were on the CD, I'd buy it in a heartbeat! I have to find a way to rip the audios, because the band and vocals were amazing. See? Sony just lost a customer in me. I didn't buy the soundtrack, but i WILL be ripping the audio illegally. If they'd released the live versions, they'd have gotten my money. Sucks for them.
Anyway, here's this week's numbers:
THIS IS IT 378,846 -- NUMBER ONES 31,511 +24% THRILLER 17,179 +39% ESSENTIAL 14,839 +30%
Great numbers this week.. probably over 460k total sales- he'll be at 6 million this year by next week. :)
