Confirmed as the next single by AllAccess. Impacting October 27. Haven't heard it, but at least they went with a song that was already on the charts. That's 2 less weeks we have to wait for it to fall off... Judging by most people's reactions, this was the right choice for him. Listen here (CMT).

Wow, it's been ages since a Mac Mac-written song was on the charts. What was the last one? Looks like maybe "This Time" by Sawyer Brown (or if you count non-charting singles, "I'm Gonna Hurt Her on the Radio" by Keith Perry).

I hope this does well. I like the song, but I'm a little concerned it may not be that radio friendly (with Mac McAnally singing on it). It's a really good song, and it's Kenny, so I can't see it missing the top 5.

I really like the harmonies on this song. I hope it does well. After the boring 'Better as a Memory' and repetitive 'Everybody wants...", this is a breath of fresh air. Anyone have a listening link to McAnally's original version? ...Never heard the original before.

Anyone have a listening link to McAnally's original version? ...Never heard the original before. You can watch the video here. As I've said before, I think this is the standout track on the album. After listening to clips of the album before it was released, I predicted that it would give Kenny two #1s - "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven" and "Down The Road." I'll stand by that prediction.

That sounds good, and then I hope the third released single ends up peaking at #2, to give him eleven #2's for his career. Then he'd be only one away from tying Conway and Eddy Arnold for the all-time lead! If Kenny reaches 25 #1s (like I'm expecting) before he retires, and ends up with 15 #2s, that would give him an impressive 40 top 2 songs. That would place him in the top five all-time, with Strait, Conway, Eddy, and Merle.

do they run into dierks bentley along the way ? I lol'd. As for this song, I've never heard the original either, but I have heard Restless Heart's excellent rendition from Still Restless. That one had two other Mac Mac songs on it ("Miracle" and "Looking Back"), and Mac co-produced that album, so it's mostly quite laid-back and mellow in a good way, like Mac's material usually is.

I thought the next single featured Dave Matthews. I saw it at like #54 on iTunes last week.

Even though "Down The Road" is the standout track, that still really isn't saying much about the material on the album. It's just typical Kenny to me. Since he can't just exclusively release his island music and get away with it, he has to throw out a couple of traditional mediocre songs to not seem so "Jimmy Buffet", and that's all that this song sounds like to me.
I don't know. I'm not a fan of the sound he's been running with on the last couple of albums. I understand he's a credited Island Boy, but there's alot more things you can write a song about other than sand and waves (Which apart from 2-3 songs on that album, that's all that Lucky Old Sun is). But then again, it really doesn't seem to be hurting him. But from a fan standpoint, it's getting a little tiresome.

this album is horrible. "Down The Road", "Nowhere To Go, Nowhere To Be", "I'm Alive", and "Way Down Here" are the only decent songs. i expected better material on this album since they rushed it instead of releasing great songs off his last album (Wife And Kids and Got A Little Crazy)

I like this song marginaly, and it should be #1 in early January, but I'm not compelled to go buy this CD.
What can you folks tell me about Mr. McAnally, whom I've never heard of?
Thanks.

I'd say download this tune along with Ten With A Two & Nowhere To Go, Nowhere To Be Marv. And only those if your a pretty big fan. I personally think this is his worst effort besides Be As You Are... (which I never counted against him cause it wasn't really pushed as a country record). Its a shame cause I felt his last record was heading in a good direction artistically .

His last CD was phenomenal.
'Don't Blink' gets my vote as his best single to date, and I also really enjoyed 'DWTG' & the #1 'BAAM'; I couldn't stand 'NWNM', but the fact that 'Don't Blink' was sent to radio before the CD came because 'NWNM' soared to #1 so fast was the primary reason for me to buy the CD at all.
He'll be the top singles artist of the year when the R&R & BB year-end issues comes out next month (third straight year), but I hope that somebody replaces him in 2009.

If he keeps cutting material like this record, I believe you'll get your wish.

What can you folks tell me about Mr. McAnally, whom I've never heard of? Thanks. Mac McAnally hit in 1977 with "Minimum Love" on the pop charts followed by "It's a Crazy World" a few years later. In 1990, he had his first and only Top 40 country hit with "Back Where I Come From" (which Kenny has also covered) at #14. He's released a ton of major label albums, and he's written a few hits for other artists: "Old Flame" for Alabama, "Company Time" for Linda Davis, and a bunch of Sawyer Brown songs. He's also produced some of Sawyer Brown's albums, and he plays guitar in Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band. So really, the Kenny Chesney connection isn't that big a stretch.

What can you folks tell me about Mr. McAnally, whom I've never heard of? Thanks. McAnally's been recording since the 1970s. He started off with more of a light pop sound. He released an awesome single in 1983 called "Minimum Love" that just missed the top forty of the Hot 100. In the 1990s, his home went from the AC and CHR formats to country radio. His original version of "Down the Road" was a minor country hit in '90. He still records his own album, but this Chesney guest spot is his first appearance on the country singles chart this decade. He's also had some success as a songwriter. Keith Whitley cut his song "I'm Gonna Hurt Her on the Radio." Charley Pride did the same song as "I'm Gonna Love Her on the Radio." John Anderson did his "Twelve Bar Blues." However, probably his biggest country hit as a songwriter is Shenandoah's "Two Dozen Roses." (Because I said that, somebody will be able to come in and name a bunch of other big hits he wrote...) He's also responsible for the absolutely dreadful "Stephon the Alternative Lifestyle Reindeer." Nobody's perfect.

I like the melody, the soft instrumentation and the harmonies but I can't get past Kenny's pronunciation of road. I can't even phonetically represent it but it's sounds something like ro - ood.

Seriously anyone know where? ...lol If it's worth money to you (I'd warn against it), Amazon MP3 has it for $0.89 here. I don't know if it's free anywhere, although you can hear a 30 second clip at the Amazon site.

However, probably his biggest country hit as a songwriter is Shenandoah's "Two Dozen Roses." I forgot about "Two Dozen Roses"! Like I said, he also did "Old Flame" for Alabama, "Company Time" for Linda Davis, "Precious Thing" for Steve Wariner, "Crime of Passion" for Ricky Van Shelton, "She Put the Sad in All His Songs" for Ronnie Dunn, "Southbound" for Sammy Kershaw, "You're My First Lady" for TG Sheppard, and a lot of Sawyer Brown songs ("Cafe on the Corner", "All These Years", "The Boys and Me", "Thank God for You", "This Time", "Small Talk"). I probably missed one or two.

Music Row Robert K. Oermann KENNY CHESNEY & MAC McANALLY/Down The Road Writer: Mac McAnally; Producer: Buddy Cannon & Kenny Chesney; Publisher: none listed, ASCAP; BNA/Blue Chair (track) —I have long admired this McAnally tune, which the composer initially issued in 1990. He not only sings splendidly with Kenny, but provides extremely tasty acoustic guitar solos. A note-perfect performance by all concerned.

after listening to "Way Down Here" again, its definitely the best on the album. this song is not great by any means but i would much rather have this as a single than another beach song. cant stand those. Way Down Here and I'm Alive need to be the last 2 singles off the album and then move on to another album (but i have a horrible feeling that "Ten With A Two" will be released)
