I highly doubt they will follow WH up with another ballad. The next single will be upbeat for sure...such as "Forever and Always", "Fearless", or "The Way I Loved You". My crystal ball says it will be "You Belong With Me"... ;)

^ I think so too. And I'm also thinking they will again, push this next single to the pop radios... YBWM has a great hook and catchy lyrics that will go over very well with the pop audience too.

^ Yup, sure did. If they didn't give a final "push" for WH this week, it won't even have reached No.1 on Mediabase. It already reached #1 on Mediabase.

^ Yeah, I know it did. But there seemed to be a huge push for it to get to No.1 isn't it?

Eh...I'm not so sure "Hey Stephen" won't see a release at some point. I wouldn't be SHOCKED if it got released over "Forever and Always", but I do think that would be a mistake. F&A is THE smash on the album, atleast in my eyes. I really would love "The Way I Loved You" at some point, but I'm not anticipating it.

Of course I was going to come back and respond to this post, but I wanted to wait until today's Chart Highlights came out, and it was official: It does have the #1 on Aircheck/Mediabase sown up for this week, but if it just misses on Billboard, I wonder if that will be good enough for the label, and it starts to drop next week. Sometimes a #1 on just one of the two major charts is enough for the promo teams, and especially since the bullet grew so quickly on this one, maybe they saw an opening on Mediabase, went for the surge to get it, and then will call off the dogs next week, not caring what happens at Billboard. Of course, in the spirit of full disclosure, this is a huge Strait fan who is floating that theory, and also hoping that that is enough for Swift, so that George gets a shot on Billboard next week. I say this in the nicest tone possible: Dream on, dude! <insert variation of the cheesy, overused "Sometimes Dreams Come True" cliche> From what we've previously seen from Taylor's team, especially PR and promo-wise, I can guarantee you they will not stop with just an Aircheck/Mediabase #1. I say this in the nicest tone possible: Dream on, dude-ette! As for the progress of this week's chart where George is indeed ahead, all I can say is: Jonsolo is a freak. Let this serve as a notice to all that I will never taunt him again. Ever. And even when I get complimented for doing a masterful job of predicting, I get insulted!! What a country! Okay, I think I was as magnanimous about this event as possible, and resisted the urge to lay on the I-told-you-so's. It was just a hunch/theory, that I had come up with based on past experiences with similar sudden surges to #1. No "freaky" Amazing Kreskin visions. No, I do not know what the score will be in tonight's college basketball national championship game, so you all can hang up the phone on all of your bookies... I have to be nice about this, since leila blesses us with her postings of the weekly album sales figures. I don't want to piss her off too much, and have her start deleting George's entries from each posting! I will say that, if there's any Taylor fans out there that are disappointed that she only got to #1 with White Horse on the Mediabase/Aircheck chart, and not Billboard, that I can sympathize and say that I feel your pain. George was the very first artist (after Aircheck came into existence in August 2006) to suffer that mixed honor, when his Wrapped hit #1 on Mediabase/Aircheck in summer 2007, but was shut out by MG's Lucky Man and B&R's Lost In This Moment on Billboard. I was forced to see the label and DJs proclaim Wrapped as another #1 for George, including an ad about it in Aircheck that week, and just had to gnash my teeth and pencil it in as a "#2" in my chart records, due to my allegiance to Billboard. And the majority of the Strait fans on the CMT message board celebrated the #1, and I was forced to keep quiet and not be a party-pooper. And there have been other artists that have suffered that fate as well, including Sugarland with Stay (which Taylor herself blocked from Billboard's #1 with Our Song), Gary Allan with Watching Airplanes, and Billy Currington with Don't. And there will be others in the future (and it could very well happen to George again down the road). So the Swifties can take solace in the fact that there will probably be plenty of #1s still in Taylor's future, as she's still only 19 frickin' years old. God only knows where she'll be at when she's about to turn 30! The only negative side-effect that I can personally see, is that this will cause an annoying discussion every time Taylor reaches #1 in the future. We'll have someone proclaim that song as Taylor's nth #1 song, and then someone else will come on and point out that on Billboard, it's only her (n-1)th #1 song, and then a lot of tired back-and-forths will start as to which charts are "official". Kind of like what we have every time Carrie reaches #1, and the non-#1-on-Billboard Don't Forget To Remember Me causes lots of disagreements as to how many #1s Carrie now has. The solution I've been employing, is that whenever Carrie (and now Taylor) reaches #1 at either of the charts, I just stay away from her respective Pulse threads for a couple of weeks, until the foolishness dies down. Works like a charm!

LOL! Magnanimous, my arse! (I tried to employ a less insulting term there. After all, come June, I'll be eagerly awaiting your update to the list.)
Hmm, I could do that for artists I don't like. Thanks for the idea!

After all, come June, I'll be eagerly awaiting your update to the list.) I will say that, with almost four months of '09 in the books, Taylor has now moved up from #279 to #273, just past Gretchen Wilson, on the Whitburn Top Artists points list (the "list" that leila is referring to). Missing out on the #1 with White Horse didn't cost her that much on that list, as that would have gotten her 100 points, and the #2 she peaked at got her 90, plus she got 5 bonus points for the second week at #2. So just 5 points she lost. That will hardly slow her down in her quest to crack the top 250 by the end of the year.

And in regards to that Whitburn list and Taylor's future on it, leila, here's some projections to look forward to...
As I said, Taylor now ranks #273 on the list, with 1076 points as of this week (confused people can reference that Whitburn thread of mine, a few pages back in the country forum, or, even easier, just ignore this whole post full of malarkey...). She debuted as an artist on the 7/1/06 Billboard chart, so it's been 1022 days (up to this week's 4/18/09 chart) that she's been gathering points for the list. That's an average of 1.052838 points/day.
Right now, George is up to a point total of 10273, at the #3 position on the all-time list. George Jones is at #2 with 11922, and Eddy Arnold rules the roost at #1, with 12667.
If Strait retires this very week, and he and Jones and Arnold never have another song make the Billboard chart, and if Taylor continues to earn Whitpts at the same rate she's been doing for the first three years of her career...:
She will pass George Strait for #3 on the all-time Whitburn points list in March 2033, when she's at the age of 43 years and three months.
She will pass George Jones for #2 on the all-time Whitburn points list in July 2037, at the age of 47 years and seven months.
And she will pass Eddy Arnold for #1 on the all-time Whitburn points list in June 2039, when she's 49 years and six months old.
Make plans now to celebrate!!!
But seriously, George Strait debuted on the Billboard chart on 5/16/81, when he was just about to turn 29 years old. If Taylor continues her rate of gain, when she's just about to turn 29, in December 2018, she'll have accumulated 4790 points by that time, and be in the top 60 of the Whitburn list. Quite a headstart, she'd have on George, at their similar ages...
