apparently the country duo/group award is the one and only country category of the gigantic list of 10 awards being handed out during the show....which to me means that sugarland will more than likely perform and then accept this award.

Tennessean keeps saying Duo/Group is being announced pre-telecast. I read somewhere that Country Song was the only one to be read on the show.

I like the fact that there will be more performances this year. Less talk, more music, good.

Storm, does that mean we'll know who won those awards before the show or do they wait until afterwards to release the winners?

What I wouldn't give to see Patty Loveless win Country Album of the Year and Lee Ann Womack for Female Country Vocal.
All of the nominees are great this year and prove why the Grammy's are the real deal when it comes to QUALITY and not just who's hot on radio and ticket sales.

I agree 100% and hope they dont muck it up next year pampering taylor due to sales. Good job they gave her a slot tonight to remind the voters how bad a vocalist she is lol I really dont mind which female vocalist wins today as they are all great singers

Eh, it's sad to see the Grammy's go to a popularity contest as well as the rest of the award shows.

She's the best vocalist there. That's what the category calls for.

If they nominate just a dream next year she could go 4 years on the spin which only mary chapin carpenter has done wow! I love that even with the vast array of awards she has won, she still takes the time to ensure she collects in person, the only one from country to do so (edit along with ricky skaggs)

She's the best vocalist there. That's what the category calls for. It calls for Best Vocal Performance, not Vocalist. If that were the case, Martina McBride would have a house full of Grammys instead of 0. E! played What I Cannot Change during their red carpet interview. That's the first time I've ever heard that song without pushing play myself.

She's the best vocalist there. That's what the category calls for. The "Vocal" component of the category name is merely an identifier to distinguish the eligible songs from an instrumental performance. Vocals definitely count, but I don't think the category necessarily rewards the best vocal performance, at least not in the technical sense of the word. In any case, you'll get plenty of arguments about who the best vocalist in that category is (my view: Trisha Yearwood, even though I wouldn't have voted for her nominated performance) and also what the best vocal performance in that category was (my view, relying heavily on interpretation: Lee Ann Womack's "Last Call"). It looks to me like the Country winners this year are all the most mainstream of the nominees, with the exception of Plant/Krauss. The only winner I would really argue with is George Strait for Troubadour, but I also feel churlish about it since this is his first Grammy win ever. I would have been very pleased had Trisha, LeAnn or Lee Ann had won for Female Country Vocal, but am happy that Carrie took it. I'm really happy that Brad got recognized for "Letter to Me," even though I would have been very happy had Jamey Johnson won in that category, too. Also don't really object to Jennifer Nettles winning for "Stay" (is this her first Grammy?), but am disappointed that Jamey Johnson got shut out. Overall, it really was a fantastic group of nominees in the country field. In any case, looking forward to all of tonight's country performances and hope they all go well.

To quote Babu Bhatt from Seinfeld..."Oh very good choice! Very good!" :) But in all honesty, I thought Lee Ann Womack was going to win it this year. This was a pleasant surprise to me. Eh, it's sad to see the Grammy's go to a popularity contest as well as the rest of the award shows. Eh...maybe, maybe not. I always wish we could see the final voting totals to see what the margin was. Did Carrie win going away or did Lee Ann/Trisha split the vote, opening the door for someone else? We'll never know. Popularity probably plays a factor to some extent, but since Carrie & Brad won, it could also mean the award is drifiting towards top vocalist (leaving the "song" part of it irrelevant). Since Brad & Carrie are the reigning top vocalists, I don't see any problem with them winning Grammys. The question is just how much does the "song" mean to the award. A lot? A little? Not much at all? That's the question left open for debate.

Also don't really object to Jennifer Nettles winning for "Stay" (is this her first Grammy?), It's Jennifer's second she won Country Vocal Collab with Bon Jovi a few years ago. Sugarland as a duo has never won. So it'd be nice to see them take home duo or group for Country.

Glad Carrie won! but i was kinda shocked! i thought it would go to one of the more traditional songs. but you guys are right about the best performance winning. Carrie had the best performance out of any of those other songs, even if it wasn't a Grammy-friendly song. so congrats Carrie! also congrats to Sugarland, and Brad Paisley! now i hope Lady A and Sugarland win Best New Artist and Country Duo/Group song!

I'm sort of shocked also but I can't say I'm not happy for Carrie. I just think all of the nominees were great performers and whoever took it, would be a deserving person. However, since Carrie had winning this award for the last two years, I figured it was time to some other deserving lady to take it home.
