To me, Hard Candy is a polarizing album. It has really good songs, including some of the best I've heard from Maddy in the last years, and then... some of the worst, too! I like A LOT Miles Away. I think it's a highlight of the decade for Madge. Then, I like Heartbeat, Dance Tonight, Beat Goes On, 4 Minutes, Devil... I think they all are really strong songs. And when I hear the first 3, it's like much more Disco revival than her songs on COAD for example. All that 70s vibe is right there. However, then I find songs like Incredible ("sex with you is Incredible ) and Spanish Lesson, which make me cringe and remind me of songs on the level of True Blue's 'Jimmy Jimmy' Candy Shop is a bit embarassing, but at least acceptable. Then, I get HUGELY disappointed at She's Not Me. It could have been a great track, but it ends up being a HOT MESS. It's all great before she breaks into that rockier section, than it fades again, changes pace, my best definition of a sonic mess. She could have left it simple and not so loooong, and it would have worked perfectly. I don't think it's as bad as many think. It is better than AL or even Music (I liked it, but some of the ballads were too similar and I'm not much fond of Amazing or WIFLFAG), but not as good for me as COAD.

HC is the sister album to COAD imo. One is dance oriented from a European stance and another from an American. Personally I prefer HC because there isn't anything quite as dire as Get Together. She's Not Me is really bad though.

Get Together is one of the best tracks on COAD. Agreed, it is superb. And when it comes to HC, it's a shame that the wrong singles were chosen... leading off with the wretched 4 Minutes and then following up with the great album track but not the best single Give it to Me

When did this even go for adds? Never did, because Warner's too cheap for that. The song did show signs of life though, which could have turned into a self-propelled take-off on radio much like 'Untouched' did after being dead in the water after 5 months (even with an adds date). So far, that has not come to pass but the song is still ticking.

It's a damn shame how WB "punished" Madge in this, her final era with them! But, you know what? The next CD will easily have 2 or maybe 3 top 10's on it. Miles Away has got to be the most deserving hit along with Jump this decade.

^WB did not punish Madonna. That's stupid.
Madonna could care less about radio and album sales.
She makes all her money from touring now. That's why she is resuming her S&S tour this summer.

Boy I couldn't disagree with this any more. If she didn't care about radio & album sales, she would never have done a duet with J Timberlake.

^ She obviously needed a hit, otherwise everyone would be saying that she flopped hard and that her career was over, something that could turn into a flop tour.

Get Together is one of the best tracks on COAD. I disagree. I think "Like It or Not" or "How High" would have been much better follow-up singles to "Hung Up." I usually skip over "Get Together" when I'm playing the album. I don't think it has a hook. I can't even really remember how it goes. Honestly, I've listened to "Get Together" six, maybe eight times, and the only thing I can remember about it is the line, "Can we get together." But I know a lot of of people like it, so I guess that's just my personal taste.

lol @ like it or not or how high, they were the two worst tracks on the cd, imo, even worse than push. get together is the best track on the whole album and is the best sonically developed song.

"Get Together" was never even sent to radio in the United States, so its chart performance is irrelevant.

I'm sure Madonna could have a flop lead single and have a successful tour.

I'm sure Madonna could have a flop lead single and have a successful tour. "American Life" significantly underperformed and the album fared really badly but the accompanying ReInvention Tour was quite successful.

Madonna has such a huge catalog though that of course people would go see her even if they didn't like her current album. She performs enough old hits that people would be satisfied. Plus, its Madonna. Some people go to one of her concerts just so they can say they saw Madonna.

Although "Miles Away" barely made the Top 40 of the UK Singles chart, it peaked at #8 on the UK Airplay chart. The complete lack of a video combined with no promo besides the airplay is what caused the single to peak so low in the UK.
Counting the Like A Virgin era chart re-entries of "Holiday" and "Borderline" as mere chart re-entries and not as separate releases, "Miles Away" became Madonna's first single to miss the UK Top 20 since her first two singles, "Everybody" and "Burning Up," failed to chart at all.
WB never should have released the single in the UK. It ended a record 24 year streak of Top 20 hits.

I think "Get Together" is the 2nd best track on COADF so I agree with those saying it's a high quality track.
I wish "Forbidden Love" would have been a single although I really don't think anything besides HU was ever destined to be any type of a hit in the U.S. anyway so it's not really an issue for me.
As for HC, "4 Minutes" was an obvious choice for first single, and I would have liked if "Miles Away" was the follow-up, but with this being her last Warner album I again wasn't expecting much. With her next album I'm expecting 2 to 3 songs to hit Top 25 on CHR. We'll see how that goes. As for the album tracks, I love "She's Not Me" but agree it should have been shorter. And I agree that "Spanish Lesson" and "Incredible" are................ very bad.

^There's a lot of things WB shouldn't have done with this era. True. Mainly releasing "Give It 2 Me" as the 2nd single. The song is fine, whatever, but "Beat Goes On" as the 2nd single was the biggest no brainer in the history of picking singles. But then again, even if it had been the 2nd single WB still would have found a way to screw it up, such as sending it to radio too late or something. Oh well, it's all water under the bridge now.

I think the perfect lineup for HC would've been:
1. 4M 2. Miles Away 3. Beat Goes On 4. Devil Wouldn't Recognize You
Granted they all had proper promo though, unlike how WB treated MA.

Pretty much, I think that would have been perfect. Many of us said MA was almost like the Don't Tell Me of this album. With a good video and promo, MA could have done wonders. GI2M was a good track, but it was forced to think that Madge could have gotten a hit with that song at this point of her career (sorry, TheO, but we told you that!!), and it ended up killing any possible future singles. Of course, the lack of interest of WB to promote any singles, and even having a video for any other song killed completely any other possibility. It is a travesty that Miles Away ends up being one of the lowest point of Madge's career chartwise, when it is one of her best qualitywise.
As for COAD, I think that the label screwed up big time not pushing "Jump" for release in the US right after Sorry bombed. It was radio friendly, anthemic, it was played on Devil Wears Prada, etc, etc.

GI2M did better on digital sales during the album release week in some places, so they should've let it die and chosen something else. It peaked in Canada and the USA the week HC was released and never regained a higher chart position.

I don't get why everyone's now acting like GITM is the worst thing ever. It's a good song and was a perfectly reasonable 2nd single. Maybe it's radio's fault when they don't pick up on songs, not the artist's.

'Cause people keep posting in it? Anyway, I'm not holding my breath that it'll amount to much but this is back up to 27 spins on POP, and has been gaining miniscule amounts over the past few days, with the latest one being a +5.
