Katharine McPhee Signs With Verve Former "American Idol" star Katharine McPhee has signed a new deal with Verve, Billboard.com can reveal. The artist is recording her label debut, due before the end of the year. McPhee released a lone self-titled album for RCA in late 2006, which has sold 375,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Since then she's dabbled in acting, including a role in the 2008 comedy "The House Bunny." "The album she is working on will show many new sides to her talents as an interpreter and a songwriter, and show everyone just how special she is," Verve Music Group president/CEO Bruce Resnikoff says. www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/katharine-mcphee-signs-with-verve-1003934671.story

Yay! Best news I've heard in a while.
This probably means she'll be doing more of a jazz style though.

New Blog posting!
I Need Your Help! Category: Music
Hi everyone! I have very exciting news for you. I have just signed with a new record label and it’s Verve Forecast which is part of Universal Music! I honestly could NOT be happier. I have the most amazing team of people around me and as we get into recording my new album there will be tons more news coming your way.
In the coming weeks and months, you’re going to be seeing a lot of new stuff and a new website. Now you know that I am not the best with computers and technology. I try to do my best but I need a lot of help and support. Well that got me thinking. I would love to get your help! I want to know what you want to see in a new website. What ideas do you have? What do you like to see in your favorite websites? I want to know what you think so if you have some time, please comment back and send me your thoughts. I would love to get a couple hundred of ideas and start chatting about them and I think it would be fun if every once in a while you checked in and could see something you came up with.
Please start checking in because there are going to be some great initiatives coming up that I hope you will enjoy
Love,
kat

This is great news! Katharine has a lot of potential as an artist, and I hope her talent will shine through with this next album. Her debut was pretty good for an Idol album, but they tried to make her sound like everyone else and she deserved better.

YAY!!!!!! I've been missing my Kat fix for awhile. I want this album to stay pop, but with some other influences. And maybe this time they'll actually use her beautiful voice.

I've been relistening to my Kat collection in honor of this announcement. Katharine's voice is really unique and I hope that her new label doesn't try to push her into the trendy mold. Her voice shines when she doesn't go that route. I'm very excited about the new album! Congratulations Katharine!

What is so great about this signing are a few things. First of all, Verve/Universal has absolutely nothing to do with Idol. They will treat her like an artist they believe in. They will use her Idol fame certainly but she will not be considered a failure if she doesn't sell platinum. She will be allowed to make "quality" music and not be forced into a pigeon hole just to sell product. They also recognize and are encouraging and promoting her success outside of just music and do not feel threatened by it. The artists on Verve Forecast are real artists, real musicians and not creations. Hopefully she will get to work with some of them in the future.

This is really encouraging news. Kat knows how the music biz works now and so she will be more wary of how things should be conducted. Glad she's all set to put out some more music.

Labelmates include Kate Walsh, Jamie Cullum, Lizz Wright, Brazilian Girls, Jessie Baylin, and Ledisi. Not exactly stars, but they put out really quality material.
They are also all (I believe) songwriters, which is interesting then that Kat has attracted the label's interest. Maybe she's a much better songwriter than we (or at least I) expected?

I'm very happy she got a new major label, but I'm slightly disappointed. I don't want her to be some singer who is virtually unknown. I want her to be popular and have fans and do a major tour. I don't want her to be at an indie level of success; and I certainly don't want her to do anything unfriendly to radio.

Kat's never going to be Kelly Clarkson or Nelly Furtado. I just don't see that happening. With the right material and team she could be like Adele or Norah Jones, though. These are not virtually unknown singers.

All fans want their favourite singers to be that successful, but it's unrealistic. Let Kat break some new ground in her career. Do more exploring with her artistic side! I still love the debut album. Each Other is her best song 4 life!

Seems like a good fit for her. Although, a little more jazz oriented than I would have expected. P.S. I think being associated with Idol is a good thing not a bad thing at all. Right now they've produced some of the biggest artists out there.
