Opening numbers I hope are 350,000 to 400,000...she has so much momentum with MLWSWY so I hope so. I thought this as well..but remmeber breakaway...she just finished selling 2+ million of Thankful..was still strong with American Idol ties in 2004 and with a summer hit like Breakaway..ANDDD the holiday season...and breakaway still only sold 250K... After My December 770K, and My life doing well...im gonna say 250-300K is all we will get first week...i am soooo hoping for more tho... The pre-release promo for Breakaway was terrible, particularly the in-store stuff. Kelly even complained about it on Leno the night before it came out.

Hey beeeee, the Leno appearance was actually the night after the album came out and she said she couldn't even find it in the stores. After looking in a few stores she found it. Plus the Leno show was the first promo for the Breakaway other than SUBG on the AI Christmas special in Nov. All the real promo for that album came after she dropped 19 and hired The Firm.

The more I listen to the album the more I think "Long Shot" should be the second single over "I Do Not Hook Up". I love both of them, but I think "Long Shot" would appeal to a larger audience, plus I think 3 formats will play it, Pop, Hot AC and AC. What do you guys think?

The Kelly versions completely reversed my opinions on the two songs. I now think LS is better than IDHU!

"Long Shot" is like "Breakaway" in its optimism about taking chances, and IDNHU is a "Walk Away" kind of girl power anthem. I think LS speaks to more people and would be a more appealing second single as well.

I have only listened to the snippets that were posted on YouTube.....
It is really hard to judge by those.....
They were shocking to me on first listen.....and the initial reaction wasn't the good kind of shock to be honest.....
Only 2 weeks to go to hear the whole thing though.

"Longshot" is not single material. It's borderline musical theatre.

I wonder if leaks really do affect sales in the long run. I mean, after the first week of sales, every single album out there can be found on the internet. If leaks and illegal copies of CDs were really a huge factor, then no CDs would sell 3 million in the states (Ahem, Taylor Swift). I do wish that RCA would have kept a tighter lid on Kelly's project. I mean, after what happened to U2... I don't understand why RCA just couldn't send 30 second samples, and when physical copies are the cause of the leak, send the actual digital version to itunes and all other digital retailers. All in all, does anyone have an idea how many copies she might sell the first week? I posted the following on the other thread and am reposting here for people who may be interested in what music industry insiders think about leaks. There doesn't appear to be any consensus as to whether or not leaks hurt. Following are two good, but opposite takes on the subject from reliable sources. Music industry insiders find upside in album leaks www.reuters.com/article/musicNews....annel=0&sp=trueAn Album Leaks, Good Or Bad Situation For A Producer? www.xxlmag.com/online/?p=23020While doing this research, I came across info that U2's album might not be generating much interest (6th paragraph): www.businessinsider.com/new-u2-al....rd-label-2009-2 Is this because of the leak of their album, or because the public doesn't like it? No way to tell. Anyway, if U2's album doesn't sell strongly, that might make it easier for AIEW to debut at #1. U2's album comes out the week before Kelly's album.

As much as I love All I Ever Wanted (song), I don't see it doing that much as a single, tbh. The singles should be I Do Not Hook Up, Cry, Don't Let Me Stop You, & Already Gone imo.

I think a leak would only hurt if it was a bad album, which it doesn't seem like most people think this is.

Kelly has always been very openly anti-illegal downloading. Most artists seem to ignore it or try to pretend it doesn't exist, but Kelly seems to always have been the one to be like "if you download a leak, you're not a fan of mine." I respect that.

I agree with that. I downloaded it, yes, but you'll defintely see me in the stores picking up my own copy. :)

Well, I think that is a ridiculous thing for her to think- she must have a lot of non-fans in her threads and website because I think everyone who likes her has downloaded it. She should be grateful people still want to see her live. I like Bob Dylan who when asked about illegal downloading, said "Why not? It's not worth anything."

I agree a little bit about what she said about illegal downloading. But her fans have been waiting almost two years for new material. Plus fans will still buy the album for the bonus stuff.
Idk how I feel about illegal downloading yes its wrong but she should understand in these economic hard times people will resort to many things, at least theyre getting her music if that makes sense.

Kelly has never said you aren't a fan if you download illegally. What she has said is that on the positive side it forces artists to come out with better material and on the negative side it could end up hurting other people involved in the album making process since that is how those people make their living.
I think her attitude is like most. She sees the good and the bad in it. If you download illegally and enjoy the album and will continue to listen to it then you should buy it. Otherwise you are robbing people of their livlihood.

^ I know some people who use limewire to test if they like it or not than buy it. Which isnt a bad idea I think.

Kelly may not have directly ever said it, but I've heard interviews where she gets agitated about how My December sold less than a million but when she goes on her sold-out tours, everyone mysteriously knows the words to all the MD songs. She definitely isn't ok with illegal downloading.

The "if you download a leak, you're not a fan of mine" is krhazy's interpretation. As far as I know, it isn't anything Kelly ever said. In the interview posted above by sixofclubs, Kelly doesn't say anything even close to that. Here's what she actually said: KELLY: It actually leaked. The entire album. Like a day ago, so it's all over...so that's kind of scary, but...people seem to be liking it. I just hope they buy it.
INTERVIEWER: Yeah, that's the trouble, isn't it. It's great that everybody can hear these things for free, but at some point you need them to pay...
KELLY: Yeah, I'm like, if you're not gonna buy it, at least come to a show or something. Kelly's attitude was upbeat and she was laughing during this whole part of the interview. So she didn't seem to be all that upset about the leak.

Plus the album only had Never Again as a single to support it. Plus at least theyre coming to a show if they arent going to buy her cd.

Breakaway is at 13 mil+ and My December is at 2mil+
