^Don't forget the one that will smash them all away, Daughtry's new single (which will be April or May).

I wouldn't consider Green Day or Rob threats. Their singles may not even be released to pop.

^Don't forget the one that will smash them all away, Daughtry's new single (which will be April or May). Probably true. It's hard for regular artists to compete with the AI juggernaut. As for Daughtry, that seems like an early release date for a single if the album isn't out until late summer. Rick Dees said on his show this week that the album was only 1/2 finished. Of course, I don't follow Daughtry at all so I'm not really up on the news of his album.

I don't think I actually went in and read the thread, but I thought in the Daughtry album thread, it said the album was already completed? ???

I'm guessing we'll hear some spoilers tomorrow since David's recording his performance for AI.
I'm not expecting anything other than a performance of CBTM, but it'd be nice if he could get the Platinum plaque for his album on that stage. Just not sure how that would work with it being pre-recorded and all, though.

We'll see what happens with this song with adds today, since we're not sure what exactly is up with the adds date. :)

Pretty sure today isn't the adds day, LOL. R&R, the original site that first had the CHR add date, changed it to 4/14, plus, you know, there has been close to zero push of the song so far. My guess is they changed the add date based on the schedule for Idol and the Video, and we'll start seeing it pushed start of April.
BTW - if it's indeed 4/14 as CHR add date, that is exactly 6 months after LO went for adds on 10/14. Way to drag it out to infinity and beyond, RCA!

And for such a 'flop' LO held up well on CHR. :) 18 weeks in the top 40. Minimal chance it'll make it to 19 which is a tad disappointing but I think TOML fell off a week before it hit its recurrency date as well so it's not so bad. ;)

Ended up a nice little moderate hit. If this one can improve on LO's performance even a little bit, DC will be in good shape.

There are a lot of signs that the add date is now April. So, about two weeks after the Idol performance airs and (although this is less certain) the video debuts. Should give it some time to gain some good momentum.
I like your new user ID name, Azriel.

FMQB is still lagging behind, but AllAccess has updated and is now in-line with the April adds date that R&R had been listing for CBTM:
4/13/09 (HAC) 4/14/09 (CHR)

I really want this to do well. It was initially the catchiest song for me from his album.

Thanks, Under the Radar. Nice to get an update.
Word from people at the taping: DC and band + string section for the performance. I'm hoping that there were some reporters, etc., at the performance who report on it. The Cook fans have said it went well, but I'd love to hear from an unbiased source.

I'm not entirely sure if they would cover David's performance or not, though. Depends on if they filmed it right before/after the episode, or at a different time. Hmmm.... CBTM with a string section? I can't wait to see how that turns out. Did he get the Platinum Plaque for the album?

It was right after the results show was taped. And he did get the Platinum Plaque.
EW's popwatch mentioned Carrie's taping from yesterday, but I don't know if they had anyone on site for today's show. I also don't know if the LAT has anyone there for results.

Some great info about the Idol taping from EW's Pop Watch: I'm sorry to start things at the end, dear readers, but man do I miss David Cook. Lemme 'splain: The season 7 American Idol champeen pre-recorded an upcoming results show performance after last night's live show, and the dude was so smoothly professional, so calm and even-keeled, that it reminded me just how, well, smoothly professional, calm and even-keeled he was throughout his march towards the Idol crown last year. -snip- Finally, after a half-hour wait, Ryan came back out to introduce David Cook. Debbie joked that after Cook's performance, "We're going to do a group number, Cookie's favorite part of the shows!" And Cook delivered a solid, polished rendition of his new single "Come Back To Me." When he was finished, some fans screamed "We love you David!" as Cook was speaking with Ryan on-camera, and Cook didn't miss a beat, replying back, almost quizzically, "Not as much as I love you!?" Oh, wait, I almost forgot! Right before Ryan and Cook came out, two willowy blond girls were plucked from the Swaybot pit and brought backstage. Thankfully, we quickly learned after Cook's song that the girls were singled out only as pretty faces worthy of delivering a framed platinum record to Cook on the air. The reigning Idol reminisced about spending a year selling just 1,000 copies of the self-published record he made pre-Idol in 2006, and marveled that he could now move a million copies in just four months. Then, once the taping was over, Cook walked right up to his mom -- who had been moved, with his younger brother, to a seat in the front row -- and presented his framed platinum record to her. I mean, how could you not love this guy?

In a live chat on the LA Times Idol Tracker, Richard Rushfield said that DC's performance was "stunning." He's fond of hyberbole, but it's a good sign that both reporters who have commented on the performance were very positive.

Cool. I think this could be a really good song for him. I hope it appeals to non-Idol followers.

So I guess he's extending his tour through August? Will he be doing more college shows, or open shows in theaters and clubs?
Isn't that kind of what Daughtry did for his first tour? I remember his fans saying that he toured for a long, long time in smaller venues.

If I remember, Daughtry started out in small venues -HOB size. But by the summer I think they were doing state fairs, bigger shows. They never toured colleges and all their dates were open to the general public. What colleges are in session in the summer anyway?
I'm sure Cook will be hitting the fairs, etc.

Now R&R has the adds date as April 7th.
RCA should just forget the CHR adds date already and focus on the TV promotion.

I'm sure Cook will be hitting the fairs, etc. Yeah, it looks like it will be a mix of college dates (some colleges don't close up til June) and in the summer it will be state fairs and medium sized venues. I'm thinking he'll end up someone's opening act in the fall. Either way, idol is pretty good for giving popular contestants the ability to sell tickets to medium sized shows - I don't think one person with a solid fanbase has ever had real problems with that. Even Taylor was packing them in until MONTHS after his record tanked. So both Davids should be pretty set in that regard. That's one less thing to worry about anyway. Now R&R has the adds date as April 7th. RCA should just forget the CHR adds date already and focus on the TV promotion. They flopped his and Kelly's dates. I wonder what that's about? I don't think it matters anyway.

Huh. I wonder if they think that 4/7 is better in light of the Idol performance?
DC is booked for several fairs through the summer into the fall. Otherwise, I'm not sure what venues he's playing after universities let out in May/June.

I'm pretty sure the fans will appreciate some more conventional venues. The uproar about the college tour still gives me a headache. Also heard he's crossing over to the west coast, which was neglected during the 1st leg of the tour. I have no doubt he can fill venues on his own, but I do hope he opens for someone big later on. It's a good way to reach a large crowd of potential fans at once. I know some of David's fans don't want to see him "opening" for anyone, only as headliner, but IMHO it could be a good opportunity, as long as the acts fit.
About the add date - I don't care what it is, I just hope to see good reception and proper promotion. I know many follow up singles don't get their own "release" on iTunes, but since he's premiering the song on AI, and the video comes out the day before, I hope there will be some iTunes promo.

I don't think the switching of David's and Kelly's adds dates is such a bad idea, actually. :) With LO done on CHR, having the adds date sooner rather than later might be a little more helpful, grabbing the stations that are still spinning LO as a starting point before they decide to devote more time and effort into other songs currently on-chart. As for Kelly, having her adds date around about now certainly won't hurt MLWSWY but postponing it for even a week, will give MLWY just a little bit of extra time to breathe since it seems to be peaking on its own now anyway.
