This is his first single from his forthcoming CD entitled 'American Saturday Night', which will be released on June 30th.
The song was co-written by Paisley, Chris DuBois & Ashley Gorley.
I'd expect an ad date sometime this month.

Yes, according to Country Aircheck, Brad played this at Sony's annual boat cruise last night. Here is the USA Today article to which Marv was referring. Brad has this to say about "Then":

“Then” will begin playing at country this coming Monday, March 9. It’s official impact date is March 23, and fans can purchase the song a week earlier, March 17, from online music providers!

It's gonna be fun to watch the battle between Brad and Keith for Hot Shot Debut next week. Both are releasing their songs on Monday, so I'm expecting them both to debut in the top 30.

Looking forward to this, as well. Here's a clip of Brad's live performance of "Then" from last night, courtesy WAXX. Sounds very...earnest. And the lyrics are, as Brad suggested, direct (I've got to say that I did not find the quote from him about his writing approach for this album to be encouraging). I'm not too keen based on this clip, to be honest. I like the line that spawns the title, but the rest of the lyrics seem rather histrionic and trite compared to Brad's usual fare. Lyrics from the clip: Like a river meets the sea, Stronger than it's even been We've come so far since that day And I thought I loved you then.
I can just see you With a baby on the way. I can just see you When your hair's turning gray. What I can't see Is how I'm ever Gonna love you more I've said that before.
And now you're my whole life, Now you're my whole world. And I just can't believe The way I feel about you, girl. We'll look back some day At this moment that we're in. And I'll look at you and say, "I thought I loved you then."ETA: Bonus clip of Brad jamming with Peter Frampton last night.

Sounds sort of generic. Hopefully the quality studio recording will do it some justice.

Why didn't he ever release The Best Thing I Had Goin'? That was just as good as Mud on the Tires.

Ponderous lyrics, a good example of why it's harder to write true-love songs than it is lost-love songs. I haven't heard it performed, but the generic lyrics will not be easy to lighten.
Generic love songs by superstars do have a way of sailing up the charts. And I don't think Brad is making his living by writing songs for me. But I don't like this much.

I actually like it very much from the clip. And you're right Zazie about big artists doing great with these kinda songs.

If I remember correctly (I am too lazy to look it up), I predicted his first single off the new album would be a ballad in the predictions thread.
A little off topic but his greatest hits cd will have to be a double disc at this rate.

A little off topic but his greatest hits cd will have to be a double disc at this rate. Not only that, but Brad definitely has a number of single quality songs that he could put on his greatest hits album and make them singles, such as Time Well Wasted (Song), and It Did. I also really liked "Then." Brad clearly can't please everyone because he used to catch flak in the past because his love songs were too off the beat humor such as The World and Little Moments.

I didn't expect new material from him this soon, but I can handle some new Brad! I can't listen right now, but those lyrics are not that promising, actually. Hopefully the overall song will be better.

I read on the Idol thread that Brad is going to premiere this on the result show next week, along with Carrie & Randy duet on "I Told You So". The theme is "Grand Ole Opry" week, if anyone's interested.

Reigning ACM and CMA Male Vocalist and Grand Ole Opry member Brad Paisley will be performing on American Idol on Wednesday, March 18.
Paisley will debut his new single, “Then,” performing it for the first time on national television. The first single from his upcoming “American Saturday Night” album, “Then” will also be commercially available as a digital single at your favorite online music store, just in time to coincide with Paisley’s performance on Idol.

This is now at radio. I have to say I like it more after hearing the whole song.
Lyrics:
I remember tryin' not to stare The night that I first met ya You had me mesmerized And three weeks later in the front porch light Taking forty five minutes to kiss goodnight I hadn't told ya yet But I thought I loved you then
And now you're my whole life Now you're my whole world And I just can't believe The way I feel about you girl Like a river meets the sea Stronger than it's ever been We've come so far since that day And I thought I loved you then
I remember taking you back To right where I first met ya You were so surprised There were people around but I didn't care I got down on one knee right there And once again I thought I loved you then
And now you're my whole life Now you're my whole world And I just can't believe The way I feel about you girl Like a river meets the sea Stronger than it's ever been We've come so far since that day And I thought I loved you then
I can just see you With a baby on the way I can just see you When your hair is turning gray What I can't see is how I'm ever Gonna love you more But I've said that before
And now you're my whole life Now you're my whole world I just can't believe The way I feel about you girl We'll look back some day At this moment that we're in And I'll look at you and say And I thought I loved you then And I thought I loved you then

Wow. This one could really rise up the Billboard top 100 too. Especially after the performance on American Idol.
I'm not even a big love song guy, but this is a phenomenal song.

Thanks for the link, kevin59. The good news is that the live clip excerpted the most leaden lyrics in the song (the chorus and the bridge). The verse lyrics lend some much needed context to the chorus and makes them sound a mite less high school. Brad's conversational phrasing on the verses, as well as his guitar work elevate the song and make it seem more personal to him. And this also definitely sounds like another #1 for Brad. I'm still not that keen on the song, though. The chorus and bridge lyrics really annoy me because they rely on phrases so overused that they drain any sense of sincerity and individuality from the song. And this song relies on both to connect. This also feels like the most generic and plodding melody Brad has had in a while (I think the chorus shares melodic intervals with the chorus of Beyoncé's "Halo," and I've never liked that song). And while the instrumentation is dynamic (Rascal Flatts, this is how to do a power ballad), it tends to drown out Brad's voice, especially on the chorus. Speaking of which, either Ten Pound Hammer's posts have gotten to me or there is a lot of sweetening of Brad's vocals on the studio recording. I'm a little concerned about how Brad will sound on this live; he struggled mightily with his head voice singing in that Sony Nashville boat cruise performance. I hope he fares better on AI on Wednesday. In any case, based on Chris Willman's comments at his Huffington Post blog, I am really looking forward to the title track of Brad's upcoming album. Here's what Willman had to say about it:That sounds like the kind of dry, incisive wit that sets Brad apart from the rest of country radio.

It didn't floor me in the manner that the scintillating 'She's Everything' did, but it should have no problem going to #1.
According to tonight's Country Aircheck, it goes for adds next Monday, March 23rd, but I don't expect too many stations to wait until then to add it to their playlists.

This is good. I'm sure this will be his 10th consecutive #1 hit.
