This would appear to be the fastest-rising single of his career.

Yep. It's going to hit the top 10 in its 4th week, that's impressive.

I know. He doesn't release serious singles too often.

"Waitin' On A Woman" and "Letter To Me" were serious, but they both had parts in them that were kind of humorous.

"Waitin' On A Woman" and "Letter To Me" were serious, but they both had parts in them that were kind of humorous. That's one reason why I think those are among his strongest songs. His "ain't she cute" songs (e.g. "Little Moments") can get a little annoying. I agree with whoever reviewed this for The 9513. Sure, it doesn't have any "Little Moments" type fluff, but it doesn't really have much substance either.

Any word about the video? I'm sure it won't be out for a while, since his child was just born last week.

Does anyone know which of his singles took the fewest weeks to hit #1?

If I'm not mistaken, "I'm Still a Guy" at 12 weeks.

Does anyone know which of his singles took the fewest weeks to hit #1? On the BB charts, "I'm Still a Guy" and "Waitin' on a Woman" made it to #1 in their 13th week. His other songs: 1. He Didn't Have To Be - wk. #15 2. We Danced - wk. #23 3. I'm Gonna Miss Her - wk. #19 4. Mud on the Tires - wk. #21 5. The World - wk. #17 6. She's Everything - wk. #18 7. Ticks - wk. #16 8. Online - wk. #15 9. Letter To Me - wk. #15 10. Start a Band - wk. #18

Blah. I was off by one. I knew I had counted these before, I was just too lazy to check. I'm actually surprised he hasn't had a song just zoom up to #1 in 10 weeks or fewer.

It's not very often that a song skyrockets to #1 in under 10 weeks; I'm certainly as surprised as anybody that Brad hasn't done it yet.
But given the blatant manipulation of the charts this year, as evidenced by the fact that several songs have lost 1,000+ spins in a single week this year, I'm not all that surprised by anything I've seen on the charts at either Billboard or Country Aircheck anymore.

I wonder how many weeks Brad will spend at #1? Kenny and Keith are right behind him, but personally I think this song is much better than both of them. It'll be interesting to see if it holds the #1 spot for a while, or if we keep playing the 1-2 week game.
Either way, this will most likely end up being one of the top songs of the year.

I actually think that this is one of his weaker songs lyrically. If I hear one more song rhyme "world" and "girl" I'm going to whack that particular writer with a wet trout. I do like the melody, though, and Brad's delivery is getting stronger — his voice seems stronger, fuller, and less reliant on pitch correction than it did on his last couple albums.

Have we ever had a lead single hit #1 before the album track listing was announced? With the album still 6 weeks away, I'm guessing we'll see a second single released before the album is released.

Doesn't Brad write most of his own songs? Anyway, compared to "kiss a girl", the lyrics sound quite mature. Don't get me wrong -- i'm a keith urban fan -- but i don't think that song should leap over this in a week right into the #1 spot. Same goes with kenny -- "out last night", "got a little crazy", "ten with a two".....the lyrics there are all the same too. He'll probably end up hitting #1 anyway, so I think that Brad only gets about 2 weeks at the top -- but who knows. I'm guessing that this is one of the bigger wedding songs this year.
edit - Rowdawg - I think you're right. Brad is probably timing a second single to come out just before the album -- similar to Kenny with "Don't Blink" and Keith with "kiss a girl".

I have to admit I didn't really love this song when it first came out, but it has really grown on me with more listens. I think Brad's delivery is really good on this one even if the theme of this song is a bit re-hashed from previous Brad songs. I am glad he will get to #1 but I hope Keith is able to have a stay at #1 too. I have no clue what Keith is singing on American Idol Tonight and I highly doubt it is Kiss A Girl, but if it was, would that appearance make the single move up faster?

My guess is this spends two weeks at number one, and then he releases the song "American Saturday Night" which has gotten rave reviews from those who have heard it.

About the only two items missing from Brad's resume would be having the #1 single of the year, as well as snagging an EOTY award.
If 'Then' winds up #1 for the year over that exceptional Darius Rucker song (WBLTFL'), I'll be happy.

You guys probably know better than I do -- but it seems like "Then" is hitting the #1 spot right at the midway point of the year. Does this give it an advantage for being the #1 single of the year?

Does this give it an advantage for being the #1 single of the year? i would say yes because for example "it wont be like this for long" lost a few weeks because it fell into the 2008 chart year. all of "then"s weeks will be 2009. But its not as bad as the pop chart because of how longer songs hang around there....the #1 song is most likely released already there maybe "poker face" ?

Have we ever had a lead single hit #1 before the album track listing was announced? With the album still 6 weeks away, I'm guessing we'll see a second single released before the album is released. The track listing was released today, so Brad didn't quite make it to #1 before then. I'm still not really on board with this song - I hope the next single is more engaging. I'd be fine with one week at #1, and then dropping to make room for "Kiss A Girl" and "Out Last Night".

It appears that Brad made it to #1 this week on Mediabase:
"Then": 15192 points "It Happens": 15191 points
Can't get much closer than that...haha.

You guys probably know better than I do -- but it seems like "Then" is hitting the #1 spot right at the midway point of the year. Does this give it an advantage for being the #1 single of the year? 3 different answers, depending on which year-end listing you're interested in. 1. MB/Aircheck will count recurrent weeks as well as current weeks, 2009 weeks only, so for that list it helps to peak early, say by March or April. It's theoretically possible for a song peaking this late to be #1 for the year, but there are too many weeks of 2009 in which Brad's song got zero spins. (Yes, a song could lose weeks to the 2008 calendar year, but on balance it will come out ahead if the many, many recurrent weeks are counted.) 2. Billboard will count only current weeks, not recurrent weeks, and only 2009 current weeks at that; so for that list Rucker will lose its 2008 calendar weeks. But Brad's song is very unlikely to be #1 on Billboard, because it won't manage a full 20-week run and so it will have too few weeks that count. Besides, Rucker wasn't all that high on the chart before the first week of December, when the new chart year begins. The biggest non-Rucker song so far this year, looking at audience numbers, might well be Sweet Thing, even though it only lasted 20 weeks. Now that they're pulling songs after 15 or 16 weeks, though, it's hard to see how a short chart run song will be #1 for the year. To answer your question directly -- for Billboard the timing is less important than for MB Aircheck. A song can be #1 if it peaks in March up through late Oct or early November. So a song like Live Like You Were Dying was #1 on Billboard but not on the R&R-MB charts. (R&R was indepedent of Billboard back then.) 3. Bob Kingsley uses a points system based on Aircheck, and puts every song's full point total into the year in which it peaks. For that one, I'd say Rucker's well ahead at this point (Roll With Me and Chicken Fried are probably 2 and 3), but a very long run at #1 might boost someone ahead of Rucker. Again, I don't think that will be Brad, given the competition, and given the apparent short duration of Then on the chart. Sorry to be so long-winded. I don't think Then will be #1 on any of the national chart-based lists this year -- but remind me I said this after its 4th straight week at #1 down the road.
