Amazing recovery for Katy following the disappointment she had with "Thinking of You". Like many, I saw this making Top 5 or Top 10, but it didn't stop there - she ended up making it all the way to #1. Even if it's likely only for one week, it's an official #1 nonetheless. Way to go.

This has to be one of the best 4th single rebounds ever.

Congratulations to Katy. I would dare to say that she may have a few Grammy noms under her belt this year.

Too bad she didn't switch 3 and 4 around. I bet TOY would have done awesome following this. Going from HNC to TOY was too extreme of a shift, but this would have been a good transition track into a more vulnerable Katy. Well, woulda-shoulda-coulda...

TOY would have done badly no matter when it was released. It's my favorite of her singles, but it was a bad choice period imo.

Are there any contenders for the next single, or are they moving foward to a new album?

I really hope they release another single. I know they said the era was most likely done after this... but, I don't think they expected this to be such a big hit.

I don't know what they're going to do, although I think before WUIV was on the track to massive hit Katy said there wouldn't be any more singles. If I was on the team I would STRONGLY urge them to release Fingerprints. It's the perfect thematic end to the era, the next most radio-friendly song, and it's not like she's in danger of overkill either. TOY and Gaga's explosion helped her in that respect. She could definitely go another single without either radio or listeners feeling tired of her.
I think Fingerprints also speaks to a lot of people just getting out of hs, college, what-have-you, looking around at the economy, and going "f**k this shit!" haha. I love that song.
A lot of people like IYCAM, and I think it's a breezy song and good single choice, but Fingerprints is better for fall.

It just amazes me how Capitol can be so hands on with Katy's career, but preety much sabatoge others like Letoya.

The album's already sold platinum. With every hit it encourages people who have bought all the singles to go ahead and buy the rest. Plus to my knowledge she's not too far along in the process of recording for #2, so I don't really see a reason why Capitol would call this the end. Maybe if there were no other hits on the album, but there clearly are (IMO).

^ No. It will flop. End the era on the ultimate high of a #1 smash. Ending on a flop will hurt the momentum for the next era.

I don't care if it will flop or not..like I said, it's still my wish. But I do agree it would be smart to end the era now on a really high note :)

I guess I would want it to end on a highpoint and ultimately I don't see any other single hitting top 5. But then I also look at the fact that WUIV will be dropping by September and then we have a HUGE gap with nothing Katy until mid-way next year. Like, they could definitely get another single from this that may help keep her name fresh especially in the holiday season. I guess we will see what happens.

^Really. Ending on a big note with a big break isn't always a good idea. Look at Jordin.
I'd say if this is the last single for this album they need a lead single for the next in early December.

Yeah I guess it depends how quickly the next album is prepared. If it is headed for a February release or something a new single may not be the best idea because the first single would come out in December-ish. That would be around 3 months without a new single which is fine. But, if it is due for next June then it would be a LONG time without a fresh single and nothing out for her.

You do realize that there was a time when artists would actually spend time on their product and release albums every few years? Michael Jackson only put out 2 albums in the entire 1980s. If the work is strong enough, it won't matter. Katy can wait 9 months.

Congratulations to Katy. I would dare to say that she may have a few Grammy noms under her belt this year. I doubt it. Maybe she can sneak in a nom or two, but definitely no wins. The Grammys simply don't recognize artists like Katy Perry.

I guess that's what makes CHR so fickle. You never can really tell when it's best to take the risk of being severely overexposed, or being overlooked. I do know, however that if you choose the route of taking some time off, the anticipation for your next album could skyrocket. Especially if your a radio staple.

I think she should just end the era here. Nothing else on the album screams smash, and if she takes a few months off after ending on a high note she'll probably have a lot of anticipation and momentum for the next era.

Yeah, but MJ had like five-seven super hits per album, and his eras always lasted two years, and he was the top artist at the time. That's a little silly to say Katy should be fine because Michael Jackson was fine in the 80s. I agree she should take her time with the second album, but she should release another single while she's working on it from this one.

Is her album pretty consistent? I've been pretty impressed with her singles, but I've never had the time to buy the album.

If the work is strong enough, it won't matter. Katy can wait 9 months. You don't have to be condescending. If you are so knowledgeable about music you know that the musical climate and landscape change all the time. Today? Lots more quick fire artists where disappearing for a year or more can really, really hurt you. That is why more singles are being released from successful eras and cd releases are coming much closer together. You won't see even someone like Rihanna disappear for years before releasing a new song even though she is a megastar. Now, if the material is super hot it may not matter, but there is always the chance of being forgotten or music changing directions on you or fickle pop radio deciding that you are no longer cool. I am not saying she WILL flop if she does nothing for the next year, but I think it would help things if she did something to keep her name fresh instead of just disappearing for a year without a peep.
