^That's something that really needs to be realized by the people who are surprised how well this did. This album was not necessarily meant to appeal to the typical top 40 audience. It's definitely for older people.
Just like the comparison to the Kelly Clarkson version of Up To The Mountain. Kelly's interpretation is full of different high and low notes and ad-libs. Older generations generally prefer songs where the artist is straight out singing without varying in their voice; not alot of ad-libs and different notes.
Of course Susan's album isn't gonna appeal to younger generations, for the most part. I'd like to see the percentages of how old the people that bought the album are. I bet most are over 40-65.
And I'm not surprised that it sold so much. Very rarely are older generations inclined to buy any album these days. When something comes out that they think they will like, they snatch it up.

50 Cent Susan Boyle CollaborationThe man who brought you hip-hop bangers like “In Da Club” and “Wanksta” is hoping to rub some of his millionaire swag on Scottish sweetheart Susan Boyle. Oh brother…. “Susan Boyle is hot right now. I got to get her on a track, for real. We’d make a hit,” the Grammy-nominated rapper gushed of the possibility of working with talent show sensation-turned-critically-acclaimed singer. “Everyone is talking about her, the lady from Britain’s Got Talent. She’s got an amazing voice, and together we’d get everyone dancing.” www.popcrunch.com/50-cent-susan-boyle-collaboration/

Nu Queen Of Pop! I'm watching the show now - she's not a very interesting performer, but her voice is her own instrument.

It looks like she could squeak by Fearless in the next 3 weeks for the biggest selling album of the year... poor Taylor!

"Don’t look now, but her Syco/Columbia album I Dreamed a Dream is on target for another 500-600k next week, which would catapult her well over double-platinum in a month, and keep the Midlands Mama at #1 for the fourth consecutive turn." - HDD
SURPRISE!

why are people buying this OMG! Maybe because it's a good CD? SuBo's cover of Wild Horses by the way is the best version I've heard besides the original. Bravo to her for that. People have been butchering it for years.

She's soooo boring! I don't get this hype. I guess all the old people are coming out in droves since they don't know how to illegally download like the youngins.

I'm really loving the success of this album. This shows that there is still a market for physical CD's. Hopefully record execs will take notice and allow some of their artists to record and release material that goes beyond the typical Top 40.

Susan Boyle Murders Michael Bubleby Paul Cashmere - December 20 2009
You should see the Australian chart figures this week. Susan Boyle has massacred Michael Buble and the rest of the Top 10.
Susan Boyle ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ has registered 125,565 sales in the past 7 days, a figure unseen for years.
SuBo, as she is now affectionately known, has now sold more than 275,000 albums in Australia, which is almost 4 times platinum in over the counter sales.
Michael Buble ‘Crazy Love’ sold around one third of the Boyle figure. 41,451 Buble units shifted this week, which is a damn good figure in today’s environment but no-one near enough to stop the SuBo Tsunami.
Australian Idol winner S.tan Walker will appear on the chart at number 3 this week with 20,952 sales after moving 1,172 in the previous week when the album was given an early release in stores.undercover.com.au/News-Story.aspx?id=9839_Susan_Boyle_Murders_Michael_Buble

Hahaha. I just laugh and cheer whenever I see her sales. 1.3 mil is like what 4x Platinum in the UK? Hahaha!
She's selling so fast they haven't even had time to certify her yet! LOL.
Go SuBO!

I don't know why it isn't on their official website. But Piers Morgan gave Susan a plaque during her "I Dreamed A Dream: The Susan Boyle Story" special. It was from the BPI for sales over 1 million and 3x Platinum certification. But now her sales are at 4x Platinum.

Platinum in the UK is 300,000. 3x Platinum is 900,000 They just wanted to mention her passing the 1 million milestone. The album is now eligible for 4x Platinum (1.2 million) in the UK after just 4 weeks. After this week she'll be past 5x Platinum (1.5 million) in hard sales after just 5 weeks. She already has the #1 album of and released in 2009 in the UK.
