There's a three page article on Rob in the current issue of Rolling Stone. I thought I knew that Rob had had a tough life but this article sheds even more light on his childhood. Expect for the first MB20 album I think Rob's music is uplifting even when the lyrics aren't. When you know his background and then really think about his music, it's inspiring. Read it on the Rob board. Made me sad. Poor guy. Such a bad childhood and to think he's dredging up things even to this day causing such anguish and issues. A few things though. Wish he'd stop talking about Stephan Jenkins. I know the guy hurt him by his comments, but by bringing it up again and again it makes him look needy and petty, IMO. Maybe the interviewer brought it up, but still. And I get Marisol's point about Rob not having the vanilla upbringing of some of these punk rockers that are so beloved by critics. But I think they should let his music do the talking and stop lamenting his poor "street cred" with critics and detractors. Every artist has them. Just "let it roll right off your shoulder". He's got hit after hit to prove his talent and more on the way. Forget about the snobby music critics and write the music you love and be happy. I don't know, the article just made him look so needy. Wish it had included more about his new label, his charities, his great qualities. It was all kind of depressing and that's the exact opposite of how he comes across. Maybe that's the point.

Hasn't Rob been letting the music do the talking for 13 years already. I really don't the article has Rob fighting back a little bit. Long overdue, IMO.

To counterbalance the RS article here's another good article from an Australian newspaper today. Sounds like he has it together here. Just saying... you have to take any article with a grain of salt. boards.atlanticrecords.com/artists/robthomas/forums/a/tpc/f/510103926/m/32610936321 Scroll down the page to read the article - really very good. Big hit on AI a yesterday. I think the song has definitely peaked but will probably not plummet off the chart until the Cumulus pop stations take it out of rotation with the second single. My guess is they are going to change it from Someday to Meltdown. Obviously, the label picked up on the fact that Someday might be a good song but not one of the best on the album.

I read that new article and feel better about that one. The RS one was a bummer to me. I wonder if Rob has consulted a therapist to discuss his childhood abuse and disfunctional family. Would do him good. But he might be happy all the time and stop writing! But seriously, if he's having panic attacks, he needs to get some professional help. It's funny how Rob always has said that he's "fucked up" and now I see that to some degree he is. Thank goodness he has a level-headed wife who can moderate his excesses that he's used over the years to cover his "issues".
And I hope Meltdown is the next single. Just love that song.

I think most people are one crisis away from a breakdown at any given time. Life isn't rosey for a lot of people and we all cope differently. I just found out that one of my cousins just spent several weeks in a mental health unit for some issues he was having and depression.
Remember the song Unwell? Maybe that song was a lot more closer to home than people thought for Rob. Again, that's what I got out of the article. People think Rob's music isn't "real" or his issues aren't "real" because he has basically hidden them so well over the years. His music isn't "real" and coming from some pain of his - he's just a commerical songwriter that can write a catchy tune (which ain't that easy). Then you have people like Eminem and Kayne getting critical acclaim for writing about their hardships and struggles, etc. What's the difference between the artists?

This should be able to go back to #28 with "The Climb" and "Blame It" going recurrent.

Yeah, the article will make me listen to his lyrics a little more closely to see how they relate to some of the issues Rob raised.

Did something happen to the audience impressions? Did I read that they removed the AI for one of the internet stations? Is this the top spin number Her Diamonds has reached? 1709? But the high AI was 8.9 million?

I really believe this will go Top 20 and off with recurrent. I thought this song was mediocre until a few weeks ago, it has really grown on me. Really reminds me of when I did not like "Back 2 Good", and then it ended up being one of my favorites...that song had a crazy chart run too.

Up 2 spots on the Hot100.

10 minutes from the song being dead? Maybe. Now that the song is #1 on HotAC, will Atlantic give this a little more push on Pop. I'll think we'll see it next week if it's going to happen.
