Paper Heart is a great song, and I think it can do very well on the radio for Mr. Cook, If it's the first single. Can't wait for the 2nd album.

Edit: Someone finally put up another video of Paper Heart on YouTube. I really like it. Gosh, I want a new David Cook CD like now!

I think he's a lot more rock than the label wants him to be or promotes him as. They put out the slower Pop/Rock songs as singles while not touching the more rock stuff on the album. But when he does a live show, he puts on a pretty great rock concert. I know he most likely couldn't get airplay at rock radio, but I'd like to see them put out some songs with a bit more edge for HAC and Top 40. ITA. He's stuck in the middle. He's not alone, lol. Seems like every artist has to overcome the label's efforts to place him/her in a box. It's a crazy biz.

I love Paper Heart. One of my favorite songs that he's put out. I'd love to buy it. [Just in case RCA is reading this. Which it isn't. But still.]

I just found paper heart on tumblr and I loved it, really addictive to me. Even though it's a live version it sounds like it has a lot of potential to be a single. Could even be better in studio.
Is there any other new song out there?
I'm excited for his next album now.

When is this album coming out? I just see this flopping if they push it into early-mid 2011

He announced in his banter at one of the Busch Gardens concerts that the album is just about done. It seems likely that we'll start getting details about single and album dates, etc., in the fairly near term.
He's also singing the national anthem at the men's final for Wimbledon in September---that was just announced.

That's what I get for posting in a hurry. Yup---US Open. NBC Sports just announced it.

I'm not trying to be a hardass, but as a lifelong tennis freak and a fan of things being logical, I have to ask: why would NBC Sports announce a gig that will air on CBS? CBS has had US broadcast rights to the US Open women's and men's finals (as well as the women's and men's semifinals and day session coverage during Labor Day weekend) for years, and according to this article, its contract with the US Open runs through 2011. If nothing else, this shows the value of actually providing a link to the original source.

So ready for a new Cook CD. I was kind of disappointed with the self-titled only in the sense that I didn't think it was HIM enough. I prefer his pre-Idol album to it. I'm hoping the new album, since it wasn't as "go go go get this out while people still know who you are" will have a little more flavor to it, though it does seem like his label might have him on a bit of a short leash. We shall see. Excited either way.

If it's nearly done maybe we can expect a single in September? I'd like that

We need a single asap from this 2nd album that he's been working on for like a year now. I'm getting tired of waiting for it.

Those songs sound pretty good. I love the guitar work in Paper Heart. Idol needs someone with consist sales, hopefully David can open with strong numbers.

I really think his numbers are going to surprise people who think he's been taking too long. idk. I just have a feeling. He's almost got like a cult like following and ToML still gets played so much.
If I'm wrong and he gets dropped I'm OK with that anyway. Rock music doesn't get played on the radio so who cares. I might prefer him going indie and being able to be as creative as he wants.

Yeah it seems like forever since his last album, even though it was just over 2 years ago. But with the continuing decline of album sales he will need to really push to match the respectable numbers of his debut.

The few seconds from the clip already sound million times better than anything on his first album. His debut was terrible, Rob Cavallo shouldn't be allowed near any idols after that mess.
But this sounds like something i'd buy and enjoy. Production sounds flawless and more poppy. Me likey. But i think his voice will throw it into HAC only category or maybe rock ??? when he starts belting the choruses. But the first piano song seems poppy enough. Anyway i'm excited to hear it. I also think people underestimate his sales potential people LOVED him on idol and the debut sold like crazy despite being not very good. If he makes a good album it will sell well imo.

I have a gut feeling he's going to sell well also. It seems they're taking their time to do it right and to release it when it's the best and right time. I like what I hear from these clips too, but there is something about his voice that I don't like, and I can't put my finger on it. Perhaps it's too similar to Nickelback, et al, or it's too contrived sounding I guess.

I think your right about the Nickelback sound. He is probably going the Daughtry/Nickelback route of HotAC to CHR. Don't know if Rock will play his stuff.
I think it depends on what your expectation of doing well is. It is a well known fact that most Idol follow ups don't benefit from the idol boost first album. He's also releasing the album during this changing times of music. Unless he can get 2-3 hits I doubt he will be anywhere near Platinum. I expect 300K and one hit single.

I love that he said he is becoming confident in his writing. Makes me happy cause it was starting to sound like this album was becoming one where he would barely have any songs that he wrote himself.
