That's Matt Serletic in that clip with David. He produced Matchbox Twenty's first three albums and Rob's two solo albums. Matt has actually done quite a bit of co-writing over the years with Rob and Matt is very good with instrumentals, etc. Rob has tweeted some very complimentary things about David in the past year. I might pick it up. I also liked what I heard in the clip.

That's David at Matt's studio in that clip, too. Is Matt producing the entire album or just select song(s)?

The second song in the clip posted on youtube sounds very 80ish rock to me...think Phil Collins. I like it quite a bit really.

That's David at Matt's studio in that clip, too. Is Matt producing the entire album or just select song(s)? Don't know for sure if he is producing every single song, but he is definitely producing most of the songs. He has done at least two batches of songs that we know of with Matt, possibly more. The second song in the clip posted on youtube sounds very 80ish rock to me...think Phil Collins. I like it quite a bit really. The second song is called Paper Heart. David performed it at a show in August and RCA has gone to great lengths to remove any copies of it from youtube, 4shared etc.

I read on mjsbigblog that the boot song for Idol could be "The Last Goodbye." Source: mjsbigblog

I believe the boot song is his single as much as Home Sweet Home was a single for Carrie in 09, meaning not at all. Great for exposure though.

1st single is called "Don't You Forget About Me" Its not his first single, its just the boot song. Its a cover of the 80s song like what Carrie and Ruben did. They posted it on YouTube. @ subliminal boot song messages.

I like how his voice sounds in this cover.
Good to finally see things moving. The album is coming and I am excited.
Is this song produced by the same person who produced the album?

Thansk annabanana.
If this is true, that's great news. He could have a single out in April and promote it on idol and the album could come out by the of May and cause he'll be performing top 2 night, it would help promote the album.

If David Cook has 1/2 the success that Rob Thomas/Matchbox 20 has had working with Matt Serletic (who is just awesome) then this album is going to be VERY successful. Love it.

I would bet he'll probably follow a similar path as Rob/MB20. Hot AC is the area where he'll have multiple successful singles, with hopefully the lead one at least crossing over to pop too.
I'm very excited to hear the Cook/Tedder tracks!

I'm glad that the album might be out in May. That's not too far from now at all. :)

RCA/Idol is playing this smart. Giving Cook the boot song will put him back into the audiences heads and he'll drop a single sometime soon and then the album shortly after. Cook has spent a lot of time on this album, it's no rush job. This will be a big comeback for him. I can feel it.

I wonder how much Matt Serletic has to do with MB20 being my favorite band.
I'm excited, if it's true, that David is working with Matt Serletic, he has created some pretty brilliant music with MB20 and Rob Thomas.

He's Kelly's age.
This whole AI thing won't make a future single by him be a hit, but it sure helps the buzz and visibility. It's a very good move.

Well, I guess David is extremely lucky that AI is still supporting him. It is great exposure that other male HotAC artists will never get (except the others also from AI). Another Matt Serletic link to current AI is that he has produced some Aerosmith stuff as well.
Having said all that, couldn't they find an appropriate original song on the current album to use. When the guy hasn't even had a really big hit himself it's a shame that he has to waste the exposure on a cover. I know it's better than nothing but it's not as good as exposing one of his own songs either.

He's lucky to be supported and it's disappointing that it's a cover and not an original DC song.
