What kind of promo does SuBo have lined up for the USA? I read NBC's Rockefeller Center tree lighting and a special of some sort. Anything else? "Today," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," TNT's "Christmas in Washington" special and more

Susan Boyle schedules a flurry of North American TV appearancesSusan Boyle will make a number of TV appearances over the next few weeks to promote her highly anticipated new studio album “The Gift,” which is set for release next month. Hot on the heels of her hugely successful appearance on the “Oprah” show earlier this month, Billboard.com reports that fans can expect the Scottish singing sensation to appear on "Today," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," TNT's "Christmas in Washington" special and more shows in the upcoming weeks. Dave Shack, VP of Sony Music U.K. International in London, the Boyle’s record label, tells Billboard.com that North American fans can expect to see more appearances than European fans, and that international appearances will be more limited than was the case for her “I Dreamed a Dream” campaign. Shack explains the reasoning behind the selective marketing approach, saying "American TV plays to her (Susan's) strengths. She's not that comfortable engaging with European chat show presenters.” No official dates have been released yet for her upcoming TV appearances. So stay tuned! Though recent illness prevented the 49-year-old from keeping a scheduled performance on "Dancing With the Stars,” the singer looked in top form as she wowed the studio audience and viewers around the world on “Oprah.” The “Britain’s Got Talent” star donned the set and dazzled viewers with a 60-person choir, performing the Crowded House hit "Don't Dream It's Over,” a track that will appear on her upcoming album Susan's debut album “I Dreamed a Dream” became the biggest selling album in the world for 2009 with only only 6 weeks of sales, so fans and naysayers alike will be watching with keen interest to see how her 2nd CD performs over the holiday season. Susan Boyle will release "The Gift" in the North American on Nov. 9 and a day earlier in the U.K. You can check out her recent Oprah Winfrey performance at YouTube. For more information on Susan Boyle, see Susan Boyle's official website. Did you know? I Dreamed a Dream debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, with 701,000 copies sold in its first week, breaking the record for the highest debut by a new solo female artist in the SoundScan era. www.examiner.com/music-in-canada/susan-boyle-schedules-a-flurry-of-north-american-tv-appearances

It's as good as a SuBo album is gonna be. She appeals to a certain demographic, and she'll likely do impressive sales through the end of the year. Not as high as her last album, but decent, nonetheless.

U.S. Magazine Review | Susan Boyle, The GiftOut: Tuesday 11/9 Susan Boyle's music may be sappy, but she certainly sells. (Fans bought almost 10 million copies of her 2009 debut, I Dreamed a Dream!) Her devotees will love this disc of orchestral Christmas fare ("The First Noel," "O Come All Ye Faithful") plus three beautiful nonholiday tracks, including a rendition of Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over." Susan's Album is just Su-BlimeWHEN you've got an instrument as remarkable as SUSAN BOYLE's voice, there's little point not making a massive virtue of it. And that is exactly what the Highland lassie has done on her second album, which I've had an exclusive listen to. The Gift, which arrives just a year after her record-shattering debut I Dreamed A Dream, places SuBo's pipes firmly to the fore. Across the ten tracks, a mixture of covers and Christmas songs, little gets in the way of the bewitching beauty of Boyle. Production is stripped back, strings swell, the odd acoustic guitar is plucked and there is no percussion to be heard, leaving SuBo to shine. LOU REED's Perfect Day, LEONARD COHEN's Hallelujah and CROWDED HOUSE's Don't Dream It's Over are all stylishly re-interpreted. Do You Hear What I Hear features American paramedic AMBER STASSI, who won a global competition to sing on the collection. Susan's take on festive standards including The First Noel, O Come All Ye Faithful and Away In A Manger are equally terrific re-toolings. Bonkers behaviour, airport meltdowns, and ceaseless interest in this spinster's private life have kept SuBo in the public eye. The Gift is a timely reminder why she got there in the first place and further proof that she really does have The Voice Of An Angel. This is Susan Boyle’s ‘Gift’Posted Mon 1 Nov 2010 13:07 GMT by Ben Gilbert in Behind The Music Just 18 months ago, she was a nobody. Last November, her debut album, ‘I Dreamed A Dream', changed everything and confirmed that Susan Boyle was capable of matching the success of her idol, Elaine Paige, an ambition first declared during her ‘Britain's Got Talent' audition. ‘I Dreamed A Dream' went on to sell almost nine million copies worldwide, topping the US and UK charts and becoming the biggest album of 2009. But Susan's far from finished. Later this month, she will issue a follow-up, ‘The Gift', which could threaten even the spectacular success of its predecessor. Once again, the Scottish singer has scoured the music vaults for this Christmas collection, which features ten cover versions. The tracklist is as follows and you can hear the album by CLICKING HERE. ‘Perfect Day' ‘Hallelujah' ‘Do You Hear What I Hear' ‘Don't Dream It's Over' ‘The First Noel' ‘O Holy Night' ‘Away In A Manger' ‘Make Me A Channel of Your Peace' ‘Auld Lang Syne' ‘O Come All Ye Faithful' The album opens with Lou Reed's 1972 solo classic, which Boyle was reportedly banned from performing during an episode of ‘America's Got Talent' in September. She has also reworked ‘Hallelujah', the Leonard Cohen original which Alexandra Burke sent to number one in 2008, claiming the coveted Christmas top spot. Elsewhere, among a host of festive hymns, anthems and classics, Boyle has also tackled the 1987 Crowded House classic ‘Don't Dream It's Over', while ‘Do You Hear What I Hear' sees a guest performance from unknown 33-year-old American paramedic Amber Stassi, who won a competition to duet with the star. Speaking ahead of the release of ‘The Gift', which comes out next Monday, producer Steve Mac explained how the duo approached the project. "With Susan it's very important she connects with the public and the public connect with her. She doesn't want to sing anything that hasn't happened to her or she can't relate to," he said. Meanwhile, Boyle, who released her autobiography, ‘The Woman I Was Born To Be', last month, remains down to earth about her latest album, refusing to get swept along with the enormity of her international success. "I don't think about trying to beat the sales of last time. I just have fun making music," she said. In fact, her latest interview shows that the cheeky wit that won over millions is still very much in place. With an estimated personal fortune of £10 million, the 49-year-old spinster has warned off any potential goldiggers. "If they tried any of that they'd get one of these right in the chops. They'd only try that once, I can tell you," she jokingly told the Sunday Mirror. new.uk.music.yahoo.com/blogs/behind_the_music/32015/this-is-susan-boyles-gift/

Last night I finally saw her cover of 'Don't Dream It's Over' that she sang on Oprah. I couldn't believe how bad it was, I'm sorry but it was atrocious. And how in the world they hailed this performance as the biggest in Oprah history is beyond me. It wasn't even epic. What the Black Eye Peas pulled last year would fit the so-called "biggest performance on Oprah". But this? gtfo

Billboard:
RTIST: SUSAN BOYLE ALBUM: THE GIFT NEW YORK (Billboard) – "The Gift," the second release from famed "Britain's Got Talent" contestant Susan Boyle, is a bit of a tweener: mostly a holiday album and partly a follow-up to last year's massively successful "I Dreamed a Dream." This time out Boyle even takes on "Don't Dream It's Over," which she and producer Steve Mac turn into a hushed, lush recitation quite different from the soaring celebration of Crowded House's original. The singer also offers solemn, chorale versions of Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." But "The Gift" is primarily about her seven seasonal songs, including a gently building "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and subtly dynamic renditions of "The First Noel" and "O Holy Night." Boyle sounds more assured this time out, and her delivery of "Auld Lang Syne," with just the sparest of accompaniment, reveals an instrument that can probably stretch further than she's been asked so far. Her tone and technique are established; perhaps it's time to let Boyle loose on some uptempo material and bring more personality into the mix

I was at Rite Aid today and they had a display with copies of The Gift by the register. My first time ever seeing anything like a CD or book on sale too soon!

It's good that SuBo is sticking to covers thus far- after all, that's how she gained her fame. Most of the reality star acts try original albums, and, well, we know the result of most of those (barring a couple of exceptions). I wonder if she'll ever do original compositions.

"Perfect Day" is amazing, really hope she does well with this album. Snatch all them wigs SuBo! Duran Duran covered it in 1995, Lou Reed praised it. Lou was the original artist to do it. The video:

For some reason 'Perfect Day' always hit me as a song Green Day could kill. I have no idea why.

Anyone have a HD link to the video? It looks like she actually pulled it off pretty well, I was scared to see how SuBo would handle a video lol.
Still, I'm disappointed in this album. The singing and composition are very one-dimensional. The covers seem uninspired and her voice is pleasant but it sounds passionless at times.

Anyone know if the lunch lady will sing on "Glee"? (SuBo is playing a lunch lady on the holiday-themed episode of the series)

Final HITS numbers:
-- 1 SUSAN BOYLE COLUMBIA 321,506 -- THE GIFT
So, the album's first-week sales held up better in the USA, percentage-wise, than in the UK, compared to the debut. Holiday albums fare better in the USA than Europe, so no huge surprise.

The Gift, after debuting at No. 1 with almost 318,000 (per SoundScan), looks like it will hang onto the top spot for a second week. HITS is projecting another week of 300K+.
