Lol there's such a double standard with men and women when it comes to music videos. Guys can just strum their guitars or put up lyric videos and no one cares but for women it always has to some kind of event or it's a disappointment. Although if Arista is trying to save money seriously just do lyric videos instead of fourth-rate efforts like the HB video, they would probably get just as many streams. Personally I am actually not a huge fan of BA or 2BC videos because they didn't really match what I had in mind, I prefer the GG and SYA videos from that era because I like the way Carrie looks in them better. Generally the enjoyment of a song is not related to its video, I mean MS is one of my least favorite Carrie songs but it has a great video. Too bad Mike couldn't be in "Heartbeat" too, might have made enough difference on streaming to get that HCS #1 after the Grammys. .

CB has grown on me but at first impression it seemed like a second rate JADxTBC without as much of a hook as the former or as much attitude as the latter. I guess it's doing the best on streaming of the non-released songs though?

Carrie is totally nailing the phrasing on "Chaser" now, the most recent performance in Dublin is the best yet:
Now if only she'd sing "Relapse" live sometime ...

Whoa, I liked that performance waaaay better than I ever thought I would. Whew, that was hot! Carrie and Sam have serious chemistry. There were moments of intense eye contact from Carrie where I was like "Yeah, girl, you're making me feel something something." I've never seen that from her before even when singing the supposedly passionate "Remind Me" with Brad. Great performance and the first time I've truly enjoyed a live performance of Heartbeat. I have to concur last night's rendition of "Heartbeat" was way more intense than any performance of "Remind Me," and agree with dudley that it was definitely Carrie who took the lead in carrying the chemistry in that performance, as Sam seemed a little intimidated at the beginning and the nature of the "Take Your Time" lyrics had him walking away at points. I think Carrie's experience with The Sound of Music Live helped some in projecting romance on camera with a scene partner. While her chemistry with Stephen Moyer wasn't off the charts, I actually thought their fun, flirty interpretation of "Something Good" made it more believable that the characters genuinely liked each other compared to the more angsty take in the movie, which I always thought was weird. Carrie definitely aced projecting "sultry" in the mashup and there were tons of headlines saying how Carrie/Sam were hot/sexy and melted the screen and what not, and it's good for her career to show the public that she has more dimensions as a performer than the "goody goody" religious girl and "sassy" rocker persona. The duet definitely created more of an impression than her other live performances of "Heartbeat," which were nice but not that interesting in terms of rewatch value. I have personally rewatched TYT/HB more than any of her award show performances probably since BA/2BC on the Grammys a few years back because it's just fun to see something different and not predictable. As far as sales, compared to her past award show performances, I think it had a bigger iTunes impact than most of her other Grammy performances, certainly "Last Name, "Before He Cheats," and "Two Black Cadillacs" and maybe on par with "Blown Away" (I'm still bitter she didn't do a full version of that haunting, acapella, chorus raised by an octave "Blown Away" that could have been a real "moment" instead of having everyone distracted by the light up dress in 2BC, BTW ), although "Heartbeat" started with a higher baseline since it's closer to airplay peak than the others were so it's not an apples to apples comparison.

I thought they had great chemistry there. Hunt's vocals were a little low in parts but otherwise I liked it a lot. Carrie's hair looked much better than on the red carpet.

Hey I like "Clock Don't Stop". It's probably the least "story" of the Storyteller songs but I love her vocals and the melody in the chorus is so catchy. After reading that one interview where Carrrie expressed concern "bare feet" could be too sexy in "Heartbeat" I had zero expectation that "Relapse" or LINLYA would be performed live. "Chaser" though.... Sigh.

I'm guessing Carrie will also sing a bit on one of Sam's songs (probably "Take Your Time" ) since th Grammys are always having artists sing on each other's songs in duets.

^Wait til midnight in your time zone. Carrie sounds better on "Heartbeat" tonight than in the Target video, which was a bit too nasally for my tastes, although I heard she was sick then? "See You Again" mashup is getting stronger live too--it was always a disappointment to me last tour that SYA wasn't included and when she did perform it live it wasn't quite as good as what it is on the record and I'm used to her being better live, but she sounds fantastic on it now. I listened to the whole record twice on stream this morning but I'm waiting for midnight to get my official iTunes copy to listen again. I haven't really absorbed the lyrics for the songs except for the pre-release ones, but I absolutely love it sonically because there's just so many textures to her voice. The production is "loud" for a country record but it's a lot more diverse than "Carnival Ride", which was also loud but mostly drenched in strings and drum machines. The beginning of "Chaser" reminds me of the intro to "Twisted," in my mind storyline-wise it could be a sequel, like when she was naive she was into this bad boy but now she's wiser and seeing things more clearly.

Haven't been here in ages but so psyched for this album! I've only listened to the back half of the album so far starting with LINLYA since they had the clips I liked best ("Relapse" and "Clock Don't Stop" have such stunning choruses in particular they were stuck in my head after just a few plays). "Chaser" is much improved from the clip and the bridge is freaking epic. Haven't listened to everything yet but no signs of songs that make me totally facepalm like "One Way Ticket"/"Nobody Ever Told You"/"Who Are You" on the last album. Still need to listen to the rest! I'm resigned Carrie's never going to release my faves off her albums ("Starts with Goodbye"/"You Won't Find This"/"What Can I Say"/"Good in Goodbye") as singles since they're too poppy/relationshippy or whatever, but I appreciate that she continues to put them on her album for those of us who like that kind of stuff.

I thought her vocal was fine, but the song seemed strangely low energy considering how epic it is on the record. Don't know if it was the sound mixing or arrangement or what. On the record, they have her singing on top of herself, which gives it more oomph or something.

I want an American Idol performance of "See You Again" (after she works out the kinks of where to breathe live). It has strong digital potential. IMO it's her best vocal on the album, and OWT is her worst. Better to showcase her strengths than awkwardly attempt to pander to drunk rednecks. Go get those Grammys, girl.
When I first got the album I listened to the BA-TBC-SYA-DYTAM section of the album over and over again. FC is lovely too but slow and kind of a momentum killer, then there's a decline in quality starting with NETY.

Thank god Carrie is going for quality singles this era instead of junk. A+ choice. DYTAM should be fifth and then she'll have released the first five tracks off the album.

Saw this posted at carriefans, nice HQ video of "See You Again":
She's not quite en point vocally in the more delicate/lower parts of the song but if she was sick today, she probably wasn't in perfect health yesterday either. Plus she's only just started singing it live, and usually it takes Carrie a little while to settle in and find the perfect live rendition of her more challenging songs and figuring out where to catch her breath. SYA is really a tough song, with the belted high notes, the low range, and the delicate whispery part all mixed together in a short amount of time.

You can't judge by how many people "appear" to be attendance because there's something called "papering the house" where a lot of free tickets are given out that aren't paid for to make the venue look fuller and comp regular patrons of the venue. Where have you read about this ? I can't imagine any significant amount of free tickets being given out in advance, other than for radio promo, label promo, contests, etc. Google the phrase and you'll find that it's a common practice. I'm sure concert promoters know how well the ticket sales are going and if there's going to be a large batch empty seats somewhere, those are given away a short time before the event starts and not available to people strolling up a half hour before the show starts trying to buy tickets, thus appearing to be "sold out." Casino venues are notorious for comp tickets for high rollers, and I've heard of more than half the house seats in those venues being papered for some artists. I have no doubt Carrie sold the vast majority of the tickets, but sometimes a box office person saying a show is "sold out" doesn't mean that all those seats being filled were actually sold at full price.

Judging by videos posted on YouTube, it's clear that she was playing to more than 5k-6k audiences. A couple prime examples of that from her Play On Tour were the Hollywood Bowl show in California and her St. Pete's Time Forum show in Florida. The Florida show registered at around 6k-7k in attendance on the boxscore, but if you YouTube search a video of her on the flying pick-up truck there, even the nosebleeds in the top of the rafters were filled to the back. With the Hollywood Bowl, even signs were posted at the venue the night of the concert that it was 100% sold out, but the boxscore came back with a 98% capacity rating. Obviously that's still amazing, but Billboard's gone wacko these past few years, so I wouldn't be surprised if these numbers were very preliminary and there were many more in attendance than reported. You can't judge by how many people "appear" to be attendance because there's something called "papering the house" where a lot of free tickets are given out that aren't paid for to make the venue look fuller and comp regular patrons of the venue.

43dudleyvillas remains my favorite person on this thread. I agree with everything you said about "One Way Ticket." Carrie's delivery on this one is so awkward it makes me cringe--it's the most ineffectual persona she's taken on since "The More Boys I Meet" and joins that track at the bottom of my least favorite Carrie recordings ever. OWT was probably the most criticized track in all the album reviews for good reason and will definitely not be winning any Grammy awards. The only track I like out of the four mentioned as being tested is "Leave Love Alone," and it's only in the middle of the pack as far as my personal favorites due to its repetitiveness.

Grammy voters have never drawn from the same crowd as the Music Row Mafia at CMA/ACM. Shania/Faith always did better with Grammys while Martina did better with the Music Row awards. Grammy is also more loyal to "their" artists long term, and Carrie is one of them since she's a former BNA. ACM/CMA is more like, once you're not the hot flavor of the month anymore, you're out of favor forever.

I'm still fascinated by the arrangement of "Blown Away" she did last night, it's so rare that she doesn't stick closely to the studio version (see, TBC), even in acoustic versions she usually does most of the same notes in a different tempo. There's something very piercing and chilling about the Grammy version--the "There's not enough rain in Oklahoma" line being transposed up an octave is especially striking. The studio version is more intimidating and the performance last night was haunting.

Carrie doesn't do anything without extensive preparation and caution. Hopefully she does an amazing job and that puts her at the top of the list to play Glinda for a Wicked movie. I believe the producers are some of the people responsible for casting Daniel Radcliffe as the lead of a Broadway musical and he did much better than anyone expected, so these are people familiar with unearthing potential and seeing past normal showbiz prejudices.

I'm loving these pictures. I wonder why she hasn't performed "See You Again" yet. Is she not fond of it or has she even mentioned it? There always seems to be one or two songs each era that are overlooked. I think throughout the Blown Away era, "See You Again" and "Good In Goodbye" will be the songs to hardly see the light of day. Also "Forever Changed", but we already know why. I have no clue why, and it upsets me that she includes not-so-fan-favorites like, "Nobody Ever Told You", while she omits one of the top-selling most popular non-singles from the album. I find it hard to believe that Carrie ins't aware of SYA's overall reception and popularity, which leads me to believe she isn't too fond of the song. That's just my assumption, but I hope she eventually incorporates SYA into the setlist. Seriously do they even look at iTunes downloads when considering which songs should be performed or should be singles? :( I'm not too torn up about not having tickets to this tour. Too many songs from CR--my least fave album and without my favorite song, JAD. Unfortunately Carrie has too many good ballads in her catalog and only a few get used on tour because she seems to think she should sing the faster songs in a concert atmosphere. Although SYA isn't even slow... :'(

Also, I have reason to believe "Do You Think About Me" is the next single. The guy I talked to didn't say anything specific but it's just a hunch of mine because of the way he reacted when I mentioned the song the other night. He did say the next single has already been chosen though and we will find out the next single "sooner than later". I also heard a rumor that DYTAM will be performed on Glee this fall. Don't know the original source of this rumor, but it would make that song being a single make even more sense. One of the Glee cast (Chord Overstreet) tweeted that it's one of his favorite songs, but I don't think that means it will be on the show. I hope DYTAM is the next single though, good change of pace from the first two singles and more relatable/singalongable than most of her material.

I find "One Way Ticket" and "Cupid's Got a Shotgun" both to be gimmicky and hope they're not singles. Carrie's music usually hits some kind of emotional resonance and those are just songs about nothing meaningful. Granted, there's no shortage of people singing about gimmicks on country radio (see: all songs about various vehicles and beer), I'm just not a fan of Carrie going that direction. "Do You Think About Me," "Good in Goodbye," or "Wine after Whiskey" next please.
