This is what Brian mansfield from USA Today tweeted out. "It's my understanding they may not report for a year or more, until the digital bundle is fulfilled with the next album." Whatever happened to the "next album". I thought that the bundle included Machine and the followup which was supposed to come out "next fall" when this was written. And as of now, with the unofficial start of the fall < two weeks away I haven't heard another word about the 2nd album.

Question is what is next for Garthster? Does he get a mulligan on this whole project, blaming it on rust? Does he get to start with a clean slate for the supposedly upcoming fall release and bill that as his real comeback? Or will that need to be the album of all albums to keep his career as a viable recording artist alive? Can anything be done at this point to keep him from being looked upon as just an oldies act?
Super Bowl 50 halftime anyone?

I thought "Mom" would be doing better than it is, but I had some reservations about its choice as the second single, especially following up a lead single that didn't do all that well. I actually still really like the song, but it's just not a great fit for country radio in 2015. I do think that it will still make the top 30, but anything beyond that might be out of reach. Album and tour sales do show that there is a demand for Garth (the album has actually been doing quite well, considering the iTunes/Ghost Tunes thing, lack of radio airplay, and a general overall decline in album sales), so hopefully radio will be willing to play him with the right song. I still think that they should go with one more single from Man Against Machine before moving on to a new album. "She's Tired Of Boys" seems to be the obvious choice to me (since "Wrong About You" is so short...otherwise I would definitely say that one), but I guess we'll see. For a legacy act like this, I think radio play has been decoupled from concert ticket sales. He might become like a Jimmy Buffett/James Taylor that continue to have tour success but haven't had a real hit in 30 years.

The reason I think there won't be anymore singles is after reading these boards, there isn't one song that is just jumping off the platters dying to be released. At most there are a few tunes that are receiving a little more than lukewarm interest.

Actually I did "google" before posting. Last week's sales 15,789. I never said total sales of 15-20k. As far as my "agenda" against Garthster, I think I was actually one of the few people here that said I liked PLP.

I really don't consider treading water in the 30s and 40s "promising" for an artist of this caliber. As far as being the #1 album, how many did it move? 15-20k? Granted nobody is selling albums nowadays, but that coming in a post holiday week with few new releases, the number is not that impressive.

It was also the most added song to Country radio 2 weeks ago. It had healthy adds this week too. Maybe he just doesn't understand how to interpret chart data and is only going by what his local station (Vegas I presume) is playing. Basing the life of a single off of one's local station is a common mistake for armature chart watchers. "Mom" is going to be around for a long time to come! I am going to say it again. This song is D-O-N-E. And the album is done as well. I doubt they even release another single.

So is this already done? I'm getting no and I mean no indication that it is about to take off.

Garth will be singing live on the American Music Awards, they will be crossing over to him via satellite during one of his live concerts, if he sings MOM, it will be a massive hit. The thanksgiving and xmas period will be kind to him also. Again look at tour, breaking records where ever he goes. This album has only been out for a week, and the only single that has been played from it on radio so far is the weakest on the album, People Loving People. Man against Machine will go platinum for sure. Not going to happen. Won't even go gold. There is only one non soundtrack album to go platinum this year and that was girl of the moment Tay Swift with a monster multi format launch single.

Gotta hear the studio version first but I don't think this does anything at radio. Don't like it as much as PLP.

That says to me--that radio is only playing the artist, not the song. How is this new? Prince, Mariah, Whitney, etc had a lot of good material but they also released a lot of garbage that radio shoved down our throats because the artist was considered hot at the time. The same would have happened with this song if it was 1994 instead of 2014.

No interest in Hot 100? Huh? Ever heard of a guy called Chris Gaines?

No. It's moved from 40-38-36 on Billboard after 3 weeks. Still gaining this week and might move up another spot or two. I don't see it going very far in the long run, but it's not done yet. However, I think radio is basically seeing this as just a promotional type single. Shania can do better, and it seems everyone is speculating that this isn't an actual "lead" single. I'm not sure the Garthster's new one isn't going to suffer the same fate. Fickle radio would have shoved both songs down our throats 15 years ago. But when they move on to the boys and girls of the moment, it is hard to get them back.

Like the song, very 90s sounding. However, not sure it can overcome the bro-country heavy programming today.
May very well end up like the "Shania's new song, TBA" thread on this board that ran for years. When she finally did come out with a new one, it pretty much bombed.

I could be wrong, but I think "Master Blaster" is the lowest-peaking Hot 100 song that hit #1 on Cashbox during the 80's; it hit #5 on Billboard, but interrupted a 5-week non-consecutive run for "Lady" at the top. They are doing 1980 next week as well; hopefully they use a different week for their chart.

This week they did 1980. Once again, Cashbox was used for this episode. Considering the #1 this week, I really wish they went back to Billboard. 2/9/1980 -- 40 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Refugee* -- 39 John Stewart - Lost Her in the Sun -- 38 Linda Ronstadt - How Do I Make You -- 37 Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall -- 36 Pat Benatar - Heartbreaker 23 35 Jefferson Starship - Jane 26 34 The O'Jays - Forever Mine -- 33 Toto - 99 38 32 Barry Manilow - When I Wanted You 35 31 Led Zeppelin - Fool in the Rain 24 30 Hall & Oates - Wait for Me 40 29 Rupert Holmes - Him 39 28 Shalamar - The Second Time Around 21 27 Foghat - Third Time Lucky 22 26 Rufus & Chaka Khan - Do You Love What You Feel 19 25 KC & the Sunshine Band - Please Don't Go 31 24 Anne Murray - Daydream Believer 36 23 Andy Gibb - Desire 33 22 Neil Diamond - September Morn 14 21 Cliff Richard - We Don't Talk Anymore 17 20 Isaac Hayes - Don't Let Go 28 19 The Spinners - Working My Way Back to You 32 18 Donna Summer - On the Radio 15 17 Kool & the Gang - Ladies' Night 25 16 Dirt Band - An American Dream 10 15 The Eagles - The Long Run 16 14 Steve Forbert - Romeo's Tune 06 13 Rupert Holmes - Escape (The Pina Colada Song) 12 12 Prince - I Wanna Be Your Lover 13 11 Dionne Warwick - Deja Vu 18 10 Dan Fogelberg - Longer 11 09 Teri Desario featuring KC - Yes, I'm Ready 09 08 Kenny Loggins - This Is It 07 07 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Don't Do Me Like That 08 06 Fleetwood Mac - Sara 02 05 Michael Jackson - Rock with You 01 04 Captain & Tennille - Do That to Me One More Time 05 03 Queen - Crazy Little Thing Called Love 04 02 Smokey Robinson - Cruisin' 03 01 Kenny Rogers - Coward of the County *Was actually #41. "Why Me" by Styx was #19 and everything between 41 and 20 was moved up accordingly. Looks like this same chart could be used again this week.

I was just thinking the same thing; what's wrong with Twain? For years I have read on this board posts like "Shania's new album, TBD" yet her new song comes out and is not doing anything!

I don't get it. First single from late King of Pop, duet with hot artist and radio doesn't touch it. I am baffled.

Are they even working this anymore? Why in the world did they put it out right before Christmas when radio was focused on holiday music?

Also, some bad editing as Nina Blackwood introduced the #2 song instead of #7...She introduced Paul McCartney's "Coming Up", but they played "Cupid" by the Spinners (and later Nina's segment repeated in its propper spot). ("Take Your Time" was actually played at #29) I noticed that as well, but I think XM fixed it in airings later in the weekend.

They also played a funky live version of The Doctor, not the hit.
