Man, "When We Were Young" is just a triumph. The theme of every school dance in Spring 2016, and every class reunion until the end of time. I think the only reason Remedy seems weak is that it has to follow WWWY, and am weary after that beast.
There's a lot going on here that differs from 21, some 90s R&B, the 70s Streisand ballad, some very modern pop, but it all feels authentic.

I think it's brilliant. This way Kelly is basically her own manager with Brandon doing all the work. #LifeGoalsTBH If it's good for her success is another question. However, they might've done a wrong research. FINAAAAL SINGLE COVER The radio mix is avaiable on iTunes now! Flawless queen

I usually wait before really judging an album, since some are instant and fade from my mind quickly and some seem poor but end up revealing a lot more depth over time. So it takes a bit of time to really size up an album. Especially one with this kind of hype.
That said, first listen done and I am not just scalped, I am decapitated.

If you view the Tringle as something for fans/early media awareness, it feels better to me. The way they handled this was not in a way that could conceivably be a big hit. There's at least two massive songs on the album that she's performed live, so hopefully that material is solid enough that they're giving this a half-hearted push.

I'm resisting the snippets for now. I want to savor this thing when I hear it in full.

Lol at people wanting Adele to serve some sort of Bjork realness in her lyrics. What works for her is that she takes straight-forward ("basic") lyrics and fills them with a relatable emotion. Then she squeezes those lyrics until all the emotion is all drained out. The way she says "Hello. It's me" You know she's not calling her neighbor to borrow some sugar. Like, is Carol King basic too?
WWWY is a wedding song and a breakup song. A song for entire lives. It's like the movie Inside Out in song form: Nostalgia and the mixture of happiness and sadness that looking back fills you with.

Any official reviews yet? That's a good question. Wouldn't usually there be a ton already? There might be a media embargo until a certain date. This would give her team more control when that flood of media/promo hits, and they can incorporate it into their overall plan. I don't know how common embargos are in the music industry, but they're fairly common in other entertainment areas.

She also just casually dropped that she's currently planning a "little tour" for next year. Let me start selling my blood for coins now.

During a few of the recent dances, they have had two duos perform a group dance and there were 30 or so seconds where two of the male contestants danced together (for their solo sections minus the professionals who were not in the spotlight for those few seconds), but it was just a part of the dance and it didn't seem out of place and there was no issue over that. Wasn't there a minor dustup a few years back, with one of the judges saying in an interview that he doesn't think same sex duos shouldn't be allowed to dance together in competitions? I can't remember if it was Bruno or Len. It may have also been a Producer. Granted, this is a guest performance and not a competitor, so apples and oranges. Just the ballroom dancing world is very tradition-based, and very reliant on the man/woman "roles" in a dance. It's the foundation of the entire system, basically.

DWTS has a very, very conservative audience. Debuting the song there, and having male partners dancing (which is a sore subject even in ballroom dancing circles), is guaranteed to gin up controversy. It shouldn't be controversial, but it will be, and they know it will get the song headlines.

To be fair, they didn't play him and they didn't see him lol I loved Goodbye and honestly thought it would go into the teens at least. Thought of another example: Imagine if they pushed CL's (another Scooter act) first single, but refused to show her and made it a mystery for the general public (not exact, since she's famous as hell around the world, but work with me), and then when they DID reveal her, it was on a performance with an over-exaggerated Asian theme. It would be absolute garbage and torn limb from limb. The only thing Boys Like You has going for it the potential pull off a twist on a doo-wop/Motown girl group song about boys, but with one of the singers being a gay man. That's a cute twist on a musical staple that everyone knows, and is actually kind of clever and natural in a 2015 way.

Soooo I've gone back and refreshed myself on his debut. I agree with everyone saying it was mishandled. The ~intrigue~ of who he could be just wasn't interesting without a hit song. So they cut their losses and revealed him in an underwhelming way that had a cringe-worthy glitter moment at the end. All of the questions of the "authenticity" of his flamboyance, though, make me a little uncomfortable. I agree he seems annoying and a little try-hard, but maybe this really is him? Idk. I'm all for a gay being actually gay on a public platform. We don't all have to be masc4masc. ETA: We have *two* examples of successful, openly gay pop singers right now. Adam Lambert & Sam Smith. And it's not like Adam's pop career has been anywhere near perfect. I don't think we should be complaining about having too many when we literally have a single-digit number of examples. I haven't seen anyone complain that there are too many. The main complaint is aimed at the label/his management for the way he's been rolled out is essentially "Please welcome, A Gay Singer!" like he's the bearded lady at the circus. Hiding him the way they did was very "we don't think you'll play him if you see him" and ended up being pointless. I just don't see what the narrative was supposed to be post-reveal otherwise. I'll wait to hear more of his stuff, because I'm interested to see songs through his lens, but I can't help compare to another out, loud, and proud act, Scissor Sisters. They never hit CHR success here, but I think they really channeled what they're trying to go for with Who Is Fancy and missing.

Saw her in Chicago last night. Had middle-of-the-road expectations, but was blown away. 1) Her voice is on point. She uses it just the right amount, and isn't extra with it. There's a bit of a throwback to that early 2000s diva sound that I can see making a nostalgia comeback today. 2) The Tringle slays live. "When Love Hurts" didn't translate well though. The other two were excellent. 3) "I Am" is a show-stopper. Everyone was in awe, and I didn't hear much "WOOO"ing going on like you normally do during a ballad. She was commanding attention. This could smash HARD if they play this era correctly. 4) The DJ played "Good Thing", her collaboration with MNEK, before the opener came on, and it is a bop. Between this song and "I Am" I think the choice for the next two singles is clear. Very promising outlook for the album's quality. 5) Her fashion was an odd mix of modern and 2004. A denim jacket with a bedazzled treble clef? 6) f**k people who take a long-ass video or Snap of every song. Put the phone down. You get 15 seconds MAX to hold that thing in my way until I ask you nicely to cut it out.

The more I read about this guy the more I don't like him. The whole mystery man thing was pretty interesting for a while (the Justin Bieber conspiracy theories were hilarious), but since figuratively "coming out" it's like his platform became more about being gay and less about the music. Not that the music is particularly good, so I can see why they'd want a new angle. Maybe it is just media spin independent of him, but suddenly he's being toted as the revolutionary new face of gay as if Adam Lambert and Sam Smith aren't a thing. It's one thing to be open about your sexuality (good), but it's another to trivialize it as a schtick to sell records (bad). Tell em! Clearly image over music going on here, and using his gay identity to sell controversy. smdh it's 2015. Be gay, release good music, don't try and act like some wrestling villain from the 80s for attention.

Fracesco opened for Jess Glynne on her US tour, and I was really impressed. He sounded great live and is a natural performer. I don't really like the song, but I think it could be a great gateway to getting him on the track so being a star here. Also, this mess in here.

I guess you mean 700 more times in a single day, 'cause the #1 song on pop in the current climate tends to be played around 2500~ a day (to go with a 7-day total around 17500+). Yeah that's what I meant. It's gotten really worse in the last 3 years. The number of unique Hot 100 #1s has been decreasing annually, too. A single song just dominates for weeks and weeks now. It's rare to have a song that hits it just for a single week. "When I Was Your Man" and "Part of Me" and "Bad Blood" are the only three that I can find since 2012. Some spent a week at the top, dipped, and then returned, but other than that, it's multi-week runs.

Cute covers, I guess. This vibe certainly isn't helping the perception that his flamboyance is a put-on for attention, though...
Edit to clarify: If he is comfortable and expresses himself as a flamboyant LGBT artist, that is awesome and we need more honest performers. BUT, I think his management and label are doing him a service by turning into schtick, or something akin to Katy Perry putting on the cupcake bra.

I'm flip flopping all over the place on this album. This has some brutally catchy hooks on it, but it just falls flat to me on delivering the things that I preferred about Ellie's music. I still bop to some of the tracks, and can appreciate it for being a solid pop album. The places it missteps are just the places I put a lot of stock into. I miss the sultry Ellie on something like Tessellate, and how a song would go from her wispy voice to a full-bodied chorus, and of course I miss the sappy melodramatic ballad (though Scream It Out comes close).
I can't help but compare it to Emotion, and for one main reason. The songs I live for on Delirium are the ones with a standout element: The chorus in Codes, the choir in Holding on for Life, the background vocal hook on Don't Need Nobody, the whistle on Keep on Dancin, all of I Do What I Want. But a more than a few of the songs lack that sonic hook. After the second playthrough of Emotion, I could identify each song with at least one unique element: The sax in Run Away with Me, the synths of Warm Blood, the phone call in Boy Problems, etc.
I guess I'm being overly critical because I stan Ellie and probably set my expectations too high. I don't hate Delirium, just think it didn't quite come together fully. Wouldn't be surprised if I came around on it a little more over the next month, but probably won't ever call it my fav of hers.
So, I get why people love it, but it just hasn't/doesn't click with me. Also on Saturday night, I walked by a car blasting I Do What I Want and I LIVED.

How do we know its authentic though? It seems too over the top to be authentic to me. I definitely got the impression that this was an overcorrection/exaggeration/expression of years of pent-up gayness tbh EDIT: And I SCREAMED when he first popped out. I thought it was a Zach Galifianakis bit.
