I think Seacrest is a fine host, and some of the new features are good, so there ARE people who still listen to the countdown but nonetheless wishes that maybe the recurrent rules could be reinstated, or the panel could perhaps include stations that do not carry AT40. I can understand why the lack of transparency may bug some people about the current AT40 chart.
I don't see the point of comparing overall success of CHR/Pop's top artists with those reaching the heights of the Hot 100. If such a comparison needs to be made, one should be comparing an All-format Mediabase chart with the Hot 100 to see the effect of sales.

What a horrible song. The lyrics are quite horrid.

I'm totally rooting for this song. It's played a lot on my local Hot AC station. I wish the pop station would start playing it... it's an already familiar song to people who listen to Hot AC, so there isn't much risk, I would think.

It sounds very much like Simple Plan to me. The same sound and theme as their previous singles. I can see why the band appeals to pre-teens.
I don't think Simple Plan is too bad. Pretty catchy, and not any worse than any of the other new wave pre-teen artists.

It would be great if the new AT40 was a bit more transparent with their accounting of which songs end up where. The lack of transparency makes it difficult to tell if an inaccuracy is truly an honest mistake.
Oh well, we're not talking about the national budget here.

Oh please. In terms of airplay charts, R&R (along with Billboard Airplay Monitor) is still regarded as more or less "official". R&R has a reasonably representative sample of top 40 stations in the US. For that reason, the old AT40 can be deemed more "official" by chart watchers (at least those who still believe R&R means something).
In any case, I doubt the casual listener could care less what data is used by a particular countdown. The order of songs on the countdown is a surprise for casual listeners whether or not it's from R&R.
I would think the regular listener likes the recurrent songs kept on the countdown because they're the same people who continue to request "Yeah" and "Naughty Girl" (not to mention "In Da Club" while it was still on the chart).

I've heard a lot of Utada's Japanese songs since someone I know plays them all the time, and I like some of them, but this "Easy Breezy" song sounds kind of dumb (especially that japaneesy line). I guess it might work as a novelty song, but it's really hard to take seriously.

It's also the theme song for that teen show "One Tree Hill".

Horrendous lyrics, but catchy nonetheless.
I hope it doesn't get any higher. It is more of a novelty type song anyway.

I can't believe "Pieces of Me" is doing so well. There isn't a CHR/Pop station in my market, so I haven't heard it much. Her voice sounds rather smoky, so I guess that could be interpreted as "rock".

Interesting article.
I'm surprised Mediabase isn't more concerned about the effect of ad spins on chart accuracy.

I remembered when Robbie William's version came out. I heard it on a plane.
I don't like Jessica Simpson's version as much. It's not horrible, I guess, but it's more jarring when she does the vocal acrobatics.

"Yeah" and "This Love" need to drop... I switch away when I hear either (I'm sure I'll like "This Love" again eventually - if they would stop playing it).
I'm surprised Jessica Simpson is doing so well with the remake. I thought it would be a fast rise-fast fall. I think it would have been if she had done a duet with Nick Lachey (though that would have been more interesting to listen to).

I really liked "This Love" before and was hoping it would go #1, but I'm getting a little tired of it now. I'm ready for a new song from Maroon 5. I would like to see D12 or Hoobastank at #1.
Someday somehow, Nickelback has to go. The song was added as soon as it was released in Canada, so I'm sick to death of it (plus it sounds very similar to "How You Remind Me").
How sad for "Don't Tell Me". :(

The song is catchy... I didn't like "Take Me Away", but her recent singles have been rather likeable, I think.

The tune is sort of likeable, I guess, but what horrible lyrics. I can't stand the "small/not at all" line.

Those picks are always worth a laugh. One time, Clay Aiken's "Invisible" was at #1.

Oh my gosh, what a joke. I can't believe Frankee is in the Top 30. The vocals on this seem a little better than "F.U.R.B.", but the lyrics are even worse. It's not even a reply. I didn't know it was possible to go any lower.

The Calling hasn't done so well with their recent releases (since "Adrienne").
I liked some of those songs more than "Our Lives".

I like the tune of Eamon's song (and his delivery), but his lyrics are super stupid. "You played me / You even gave him ****." Like, what the heck does that have to do with anything? But I agree that Frankee's "response" is 100x more stupid. "Your sex was wack"?? Yeah, whatever. Truly hard-hitting stuff. It better start falling soon.

Will Enrique Iglesias get into the Top 40 this week? He is currently at #41. Fefe Dobson is close behind, though.
Hopefully, Chingy will fall out and allow one of the two to get on.

I hope Outkast blocks Nickelback from #1, although I guess "Someday" will have more longevity. Well then, I hope Linkin Park's "Numb" moves up fast.

I didn't like "God Is A DJ" at first, but it's been growing on me. It's too bad the song is losing momentum already.

Nick Lachey's "This I Swear" was played as an extra due to a "request".

Maybe all songs from the same album are moved to gold at once.
Perhaps the album year determines when songs make the transition, and the move only occurs if someone notices, which occurs sporadically.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe they are finally getting the AT40 website up. I would never have imagined it would be minus Casey Kasem, though.

Some stations factor in sales of singles in local stores.
Other stations encourage listeners to vote for their favuorite songs of the year.
I'm not sure whether stations are consistent in how this information is incorporated with spins/request data. I don't really trust the year-end countdown that my local station came up with.

I personally prefer a larger playlist. I would tune into any station that played the Top 60 CHR/Pop songs plus either all the songs on the AC/Hot AC chart or the Top 50 songs on CHR/Rhythmic (depending on the lean).
I agree that most listeners like the repetition. After all, they request the same songs over and over for morning, noon-hour, early evening and nightly countdowns. Even songs that have been overplayed for weeks are still on the top x at x.
