I hope she does well with this. I saw part of "A Diva's Christmas Carol" on TV with Vanessa Williams as "Ebony", and it was horrible and embarrassing. I think it's time this "has-been" gets back up the chart.

Actually, I kinda liked it when they used their own version of the chart. It was fun to compare it to the R&R chart. Plus there was the surprise element to it, which I liked too. I've tried to refrain from reading the R&R chart so the countdown won't be completely predictable.

I hope my local station plays the countdown next week and forgoes the regular weekly show. I sent them an e-mail to ask.
I'm glad AT10 is back to using the R&R year-end chart.
The extras sound a little tired (ick, "The Game of Love" and "Truly Madly Deeply"), but interesting that he plays four. In my dreams, he would've played #31-#34, or maybe chose songs that placed lower down year-end, but made top 15 in 2004. I didn't get the chance to hear "Remember When It Rained" or "Last Thing on My Mind" too often even though they were top 15 "hits".

The Bellingham station that I listen to normally airs AT10 on Sunday mornings. The show was pre-empted here as well, though not with Christmas music.
There must not be a new AT10 show this weekend because Christmas was on the Saturday. I guess the Top 30 of 2004 will run next weekend.

Those are the very same extras that they played on the first half of the Top 60 of 2000 show (though not sure why they played "One Sweet Day", as it wasn't the #1 song of any year). I was listening to that on tape yesterday while doing some marking. It's strange how some very popular songs from the last couple of years are not heard anymore on the radio. I can't recall when I last heard "She's All I Ever Had" or even "Taking Me Home".

Hey, a Top 30 of the year is better than the Top 20 of the year with the spotlight being "Past #1 songs of the year". Since they never did a spotlight focusing on year end AC charts, I was afraid they were reserving that for the year end show, chopping down the chart in the process. Thankfully, they are not. I agree about that. But of course, one can never get enough of "One Sweet Day", "Because You Loved Me" and "Truly Madly Deeply". ;) At least the lower reaches of the Top 30 does have a few interesting tunes.

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of Hot AC type songs which made it onto the Top 100. I guess there must be a couple of monitored AC stations which lean Hot AC, and played these songs consistently throughout the course of the year. I'm not sure if it's because we've had AT10 for so long, but there are many songs in the Top 60 that I've never even heard before. I wish AT10 would consider doing Top 40 of 2004 at least. That would be more interesting than a Top 30 (especially since the top 15 is always a bore). I can't wait to hear "Unwell" on the yearend chart again.

Either that or they'll be doing the Top 30 on New Years weekend. Some stations will still be running Christmas music on Christmas weekend, so maybe there will either be a regular show or another Christmas special. Good point, since Christmas Day is almost guaranteed to be All-Christmas on many AC stations.

I managed to hear part of the countdown today on the drive out, and it sounded good.
If I had known they were doing a Top 60, I would have rescheduled my appointment and taped it. Oh well. :'( There's always next year.
So I guess it looks like they will be doing a Top 30 of 2004 countdown on December 25-26?

Not looking good for this song... it's not even on the "Jump" top 20 anymore.

I hope they don't decide to reuse these Christmas shows year after year from now on. I would like to hear the yearend Top 60 as well... I agree that it is very unlikely. People would probably turn off the radio if they ever heard two unfamiliar songs in a row. I guess all of the songs that made the top 30 of the year would have hit the top 10 sometime during the year.

I missed hearing the tail end of the show by 5 minutes, so unfortunately, I can't say. :'(

I would expect pop-rock songs to be helped the most. I would think softer ACs might be the first to go All-Christmas.

It's a good refresher to read the history of the AC recurrent rule. I haven't been able to keep it straight since the last time they tried 15 / -3.

I agree they should have spotlighted some country cross-overs from the 80's.
There was also Carolyn Dawn Johnson's "Complicated" from a few years back, though that didn't get very high up the chart. I guess Martina McBride had enough songs in the Top 10 not to play some of her older hits.

Their daughters will be lovers who turn into mothers. Fathers (and mothers) should be good to their daughters so the daughters will be good to their own children, too. I can see where John Mayer was going with it, but I don't get the warm and fuzzy feeling when I hear it.

I liked "Clarity" a lot more than this song. In fact, I really hate this song, especially the lyrics. Fathers must be good to their daughters because their daughters will be lovers? That is disturbing and sick.

I caught the tale end of the countdown. The Spotlight was a bit dull this week. It would have been interesting if there was a pattern to them like ulij20 suggested. #1's from this week in each of the years in the 90's would have been cool.
The only charting song which I would have bothered to tune in to hear would have been "You'll Think of Me", since that isn't played on my local AC station.
I haven't heard Eminem's cover of that song. It's always nice to see an AC staple artist on the chart.

The Backstreet Boys released a lot of singles from each CD, and even a few years back, AC did give follow-ups a good chance at the top 5.
I guess now, it's beginning to be possible that the lead single from a previous album is still in the top 5 by the time the lead single from the next album is released.

I guess since each new song is played less times per week than the average CHR/Pop or even Hot AC station, it takes a longer time first for listeners to recognize the song, and then an even longer time for listeners to be bored of the song.

"She Will Be Loved" will probably be lost in the shuffle while AC is clamouring over "This Love".

Darn, I was hoping "Home" or "Daughters" could overtake this song. There's only so much of "Breakaway" I can take. And now "Heaven" is back at #2. Arggh.

"ADHC" actually shocked me by peaking Top 30 at Pop... because ballads were out and this particular ballad was sooo sappy that I don't even think it would have done *as* well as her other songs even if it was released at her peak. "I'm Alive" would have been a better lead single, though I'm not at all saying it would have seen her return to her old success. "Right In Front Of You" should have followed that up as the next single. Then Celine went on to make like how many new novelty albums with repeated songs on them? I'm glad she didn't choose "I'm Alive" as the first single, because that song sounded tired and like a second rate version of "That's the Way It Is". As "sappy" as ANDHC was, it did sound more fresh and took advantage of the brief resurgence the Enya sound had at the time. "I'm Alive" did poorly on pop as the second single, and is hardly played now on AC. I have to agree with your comment on the recent albums with repeated songs on them, which is simply unforgivable. How hard is it to go into the studio and record another three or four songs so the albums are actually completely new? Even if they have to be covers (though I would prefer not). I would think there are a million songs available for Celine Dion, and she just has to choose the right one which sound fresh but not too out there. With proper promotion from Sony (I'm not holding my breath), she could have more consistent success on the radio. At least then, she wouldn't have songs that even fail on AC, like "Beautiful Boy".

Pop doesn't have to over for Celine. If pop radio PDs were just open more to power ballads, then Celine could have had a hit in 2003 with Have You Ever Been In Love? I wish pop radio would be more open to these types of songs again. I totally agree with you. It was neat in the late 90s to have artists like Celine Dion, and even Rod Stewart and Elton John on the pop chart. "You & I" could have made a small dent on the pop chart... it's catchy and not any worse than "So Yesterday", "Rumors" or "Welcome to My Life". With that said, her rendition of "Beautiful Boy" doesn't sound too great. Celine Dion's selection of songs has been questionable since after "A New Day Has Come". There have been a few good songs here and there, but for the most part, the singles released have been disappointing.

I think Celine Dion needs to take the time to put out a CD of completely new material without recycled songs or live renditions. Some of her covers are good, but she can always do those later on... how about focusing on new material?
I'm surprised "You and I" did so poorly on AC. The song was no worse than "I Drove All Night" and that made the top 10.
I think I saw the video to "You and I" on Air Canada. It wasn't very outstanding (just her singing the song in a hangar), though she looks more natural than in recent pictures.

Yeah, it does seem like an intermittent thing with Mediabase.
I would think it quite easy to do this with their sophisticated database, but I wonder if they even have a policy for when recurrents become golds. Maybe the person with this responsibility just does it when he/she feels like it.

I was surprised at the success of "Love's Divine" on AC. I hope they do score with a follow-up, whether it's this song or another.

Wow, quite amazing considering Nick Lachey's theme to the Newlyweds didn't get anywhere near top 20.

I first noticed it in late June and not anytime earlier. I'm not sure when it was first out, but I still haven't seen any album news from Jeff Timmons. I looked at my records, and the song was actually on AllAccess (CHR/Pop section) in December 2003. That was when I first added it to my playlist. I guess the link disappeared for a time after that.
