SARA SMILES, BATTLES EMINEM FOR #1 Stone Sour, Anberlin and Interpol in the Mix as Top Debuts
September 8, 2010
Sara Bareilles returns this week with her second Epic album, Kaleidoscope Heart, the follow-up to her 2007 Gold-certified Little Voice and its hit, Grammy-nominated single, “Love Song.” Based on first-day reports from those retailers who haven’t fled to Vermont to start a bed-and-breakfast, Bareilles’ sophomore release will be the week’s top debut at 80-90k, which will put it in direct competition with Eminem’s Recovery for the #1 spot on next Tuesday’s HITS Top 50 Album sales chart.
Longtime Roadrunner metal band Stone Sour, formed by Slipknot lead singer Corey Taylor, release their third album, Audio Secrecy, after earning three Grammy nominations on their previous two efforts. The new album looks to be on target for between 40-45k in first-week sales.
Winter Haven, FL, Christian alternative rock band Anberlin’s new Universal Republic album, Dark is the Way. Light is the Place, their second for the major and fifth overall, is looking to be in the 35-40k range. The group, featured on Amazon’s $3.99 Daily Special, is, predictably, nowhere to be found on iTunes.
Veteran N.Y. downtown PoMo rockers Interpol return to indie Matador for their fourth, this one self-titled, album after a pair of releases on Capitol, with a projected first-week total of 30-35k.
The market was up 2% vs. last week, down 17% vs. same week last year and still down 12% year to date.
If that’s not reason enough for repentance, we don’t know what is.

I think Hits are underestimating both Stone Sour and Interpol. I expect the former to do 50,000 or so while the latter is more likely to crack 40,000 IMO.

Damn. Disappointing in the predictions for the new Stone Sour album. It looks like it will do no more than what HellYeah did first week. Ouch.

here's billboard's report:
Sara Bareilles Aiming High On Next Week's Billboard 200 September 08, 2010 - Retail
by Keith Caulfield
Next week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, it's looking like Sara Bareilles' sophomore set "Kaleidoscope Heart," released Tuesday (Sept. 7), will be the tally's highest new entry. Industry prognosticators are suggesting that the new set could possibly sell around 80,000 to 100,000 by week's end on Sept. 12.
A No. 1 debut for Bareilles is possible, but she'll have to contend with the second week of this past week's No. 1, Disturbed's "Asylum," along with the still-consistently-selling "Recovery" from Eminem. "Asylum" arrived atop the chart with 179,000 while "Recovery" held at No. 3 with 93,000 (down just 6%). For the latter, that was its smallest sales frame in its 11 weeks on the list.
Bareilles first set, "Little Voice," peaked at No. 7 in 2008. It has so far sold 994,000 in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Other albums looking for top 10 debuts next week include Stone Sour's "Audio Secrecy," Anberlin's "Dark is The Way. Light Is a Place" and Interpol's self-titled set.

Damn. Disappointing in the predictions for the new Stone Sour album. It looks like it will do no more than what HellYeah did first week. Ouch. I'm sure the actual numbers will be considerably higher. Hits has a tendency to underestimate sales for acts they have little or no knowledge about. The results next week will prove that.

Good for Sara, I didn't know her first CD sold a million. Hopefully she gets a #1 album out of this.

Yeah, I'm hoping Eminem can take back #1. Eminelegend. He very well might. I can see him getting a potential boost from the highly-publicized and critically-acclaimed kick-off of the "Home and Home" tour with Jay-Z in Detroit. Depending on where in that range "Kaleidoscope Heart" comes in, Eminem may deny her #1 in direct consequence of the boost. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

guess Sara defeated the one hit wonder tag. I hope she takes it I think she certainly has, which feels funny claiming because "King of Anything" has yet to even touch the Top Forty of the Mainstream Top 40. Sales like these don't lie, at any rate. Even if she fails to pick up momentum on other radio formats, I would certainly rather be where she's at than where Jay Sean, Taio Cruz, Soulja Boy and countless other inevitable also-rans in the industry are. They should savor their success now, because it'll be pretty much all forgotten in three years. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

Eminem has more than enough weeks at the top anyways.

Wow, fantastic hold for Katy. I really hope Eminem reclaims his throne. I think w/ VMA leftovers and his Yankee Stadium performances, he may stay steady or even rise next week.
