YOUR HIGH HOLY DAYS WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW Going into the weekend, Warner Bros.' Linkin Park is in the lead, but Atlantic's Trez Songz is right behind them. Looks like Top 10 debuts on tap for Mercury Nashville's Jamey Johnson, Epitaph's Weezer, Rounder's Robert Plant and Island/IDJ's Brandon Flowers. Meanwhile, Universal Republic's Florence + the Machine ride her show-stopping VMA performance into the Top 15. Not bad. *Linkin Park (Warner Bros.) 250-260k *Trey Songz (Atlantic) 230-240k Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 75-80k * Jamey Johnson (Mercury Nashville) 60-65k * Weezer (Epitaph) 45-50k * Robert Plant (Rounder) 45-50k * Brandon Flowers (Island/IDJ) 40-45k Now 35 (Capitol/EMI) 40-45k Katy Perry (Capitol/EMI) 32-37k Sara Bareilles (Epic) 28-32k Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 25-28k Disturbed (Reprise) 25-28k Fantasia (J/RMG) 22-25kFlorence + The Machine (Universal Republic) 20-23k Drake (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Motown) 17-20k *Debuts (9/16p) Fantasia's album looks like it's going to be a consistent seller. Nice drop. It will hit over 200,000 copies by the end of the weekend, and her reality show's second season starts this Sunday.

I believe it.
Trey Songz has incredible momentum in his sails right now, while morale among Linkin Park fans is lukewarm, with fans of their nu-metal sound from before feeling deflated toward their new material.
Really, competing for the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 is much like getting-out-the-vote any election season. It's all about which camp has more momentum and morale when all is said and done. Both are clearly on Trey Songz' side with his breakout single "Say Aah" recently and the commercial praise his new album is garnering. I did predict an upset was likely, and I think Trey will pull off just that.

Looking at Lady Gaga as opposed to Florence and Usher, it seems pretty clear that winning awards is far less helpful sales-wise than performing.
This was my guess for Gaga's best chance at another week in the top ten. I think she will probably have to settle for just missing Shania Twain's record for most top ten weeks for a non-#1.

Performances help, but it depends on the type of award you're winning. The VMAs aren't exactly taken seriously. Plus at this point, Gaga's already sold a ton of albums. Look at the kind of boost big winners at the Grammys get in the weeks after. Think of Norah Jones, even Amy Winehouse. Winning Grammys helps boost sales for a few weeks.

Big Grammy winners also tend to be performers that night, though. I'm hard pressed to think of a big winner who didn't perform. It's actually quite odd now that I think about it that not all of the video of the year nominees at the VMAs perform.

I think the GaGa vs. Florence thing is weird though - Lady GaGa has sold almost 4 million copies of her album (in addition to 1.2-1.3(?) million copies of the EP tagged on) while Florence has sold under 200k. If GaGa was at Florence's sales level and won 8 awards including VOTY, giving 3 acceptance speeches throughout the night without performing, her increase would be greater than what it was.
Great numbers for Linkin Park & Trey, even despite previous LP figures.
Also...Eminem...wow. I really hope he finishes 2010 with the best selling-album.

I think it's still not decided yet.
Strong debuts! Is Robert Plant considered folk music?
Will this struggle to go gold?
:o :o :o
Lowest point so far!
