They should have sent "Parking Lot" to Pop. I think it could have out-peaked "Big Hoops". Her label and the management this era has been sooo messy.

LOVE the video. She should have come out with that to start the era. Still think Parking Lot would need a few tweaks to be a pop hit, but I'm just going to enjoy the music now.
The show at Highline last night was phenomenal, she was so lively and clearly loving being on stage again. Great to hear all the old stuff as well as some of the new...only disappointment was Promiscuous being part of a medley.

Why didn't they lead with this. It's like maneater meets turn off the lights meets MIA. and she looks sooo good. This and then bucket list second would have been my pick. Sucks that a great album that took so many years is gonna just pass us by.

Target didn't have the deluxe. This wasn't in the new release section either.

I just don't get it. Why couldn't they at least try to promote it? Ugh. This is flopping so hard. :( It seems they are just dumping the album and giving up on it even before it's released.

The fact that Kreayshawn's album that wasn't promoted is even higher than this on iTunes is just too for words. It's a shame because this is a really good album. Hopefully "Parking Lot" magically becomes a hit and turns this into a steady seller.

I bought the deluxe on iTunes and I am in awe. This is my album of the year. Nelly Furtado has never disappointed me. This album came out at a perfect time because I needed some of these songs desperately. I really respect Nelly. She is so intelligent and she is so incredibly creative. What a talent. I love this record. I'm glad that she seems genuinely unresponsive to fear that this record won't come close to the commercial success that Loose brought to the table because she should be really proud of this.

I accepted the fact that this was going to be a huge commercial flop, why should I care if she clearly doesn't? I do love this album though. There are obviously still duds (though I'm glad she released 22 tracks), the majority is right up my alley. I still wish she had sung certain songs (particularly "Parking Lot") as she does live...not sure I've ever actually said that about anyone!
Miracles, Believers, Hold Up and End of the World are my favorites.

I need the bonus tracks. It was too expensive at Best Buy and I already bought the Killers deluxe album so...
Those stoner vocals from Parking Lot SLAY me. One of my favorites from her, as is TSI and SOMETHING. That song is just...sex. I can't wait to hear the whole album tonight!

Slant Magazine Review
Nelly Furtado The Spirit Indestructible ***½
Growing up, my sisters and I agreed that big earrings looked heavy and uncomfortable. In contrast, "Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)," the lead single from Nelly Furtado's fifth album, The Spirit Indestructible, finds the singer weightlessly expressing her sense of self-actualization vis-à-vis the size of her earrings. "The bigger the better, the better the bigger," she tautaologizes, breaking up the mantra to drop lyrical shards from some of the tunes that soundtracked her adolescence ("No Diggity," "Scenario," "Express Yourself," "Back and Forth," "Passin' Me By"), weaving a tapestry of youthful identity from pop-cultural signposts and shopping-mall fashion statements. The slow-rolling track shouldn't work as well as it does; imagine an ear-piercing session at Claire's Boutique interrupted by a short-attention-span round of radio roulette, culminating in a few seconds of drum n' bass. But it does because of Furtado, whose voice remains as cheek-pinchingly cute as it did over a decade ago when she boh-duh-doh-duh-doh-ching-ching'ed her way through "Baby Girl," a track from her debut Whoa, Nelly! Furtado leaps effortlessly over the impressive array of hurdles scattered throughout The Spirit Indestructible, produced largely by Rodney Jerkins. On "Waiting for the Night," she snatches the beyond-played-out thrash-dance template (the song's melody and production both recall Jennifer Lopez's "On the Floor") and makes it sound, if not fresh, then at least palpably urgent—that is, until it tags out on a wonky accordion riff. On "Parking Lot," Furtado sounds like she's trying to win a bet that she could turn the hook from George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set on You" into a new "Hollaback Girl." The verses of "High Life" are repeatedly slapped by a bullwhip that cracks with each and every beat, creating one of the most assaultive environments this side of Busta Rhymes's "Fire." Whether her strategy is to sing-song her way beyond the abrasive edges or to conversely turn her voice into an even more abrasive element, Furtado makes it all work. She's fully capable, when goaded, of unleashing her inner Taana Gardner, and does so to great effect on "Big Hoops" and "Something," a collaboration with Nas. Whether she's measuring the circumference of her earrings, writing an entry in her diary, or flowing with a meditative drone (which she does in the sparkling, aptly titled "The Most Beautiful Thing"), she clearly enjoys being a girl.
Metascore: 63 Furtado's first album after a six-year absence, The Spirit Indestructible was produced by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins and features a cameo appearance by Nas. Critic score distribution: Positive: 4 out of 7 Mixed: 3 out of 7 Negative:0
Los Angeles Times : 88 Ever confident of her allure both as a woman and an artist, Furtado on The Spirit Indestructible proves nearly untouchable.
All Music Guide: 70 Furtado isn't entirely successful; at times, the album is more impressive for what she intends to achieve than what she accomplishes. And yet for all its contradictions and clumsiness, it's hard not to admire The Spirit Indestructible, for it is that rare thing: a major-label album that bears the unmistakably messy, human stamp of an artist.
All Music Guide: 70 Yet for all its contradictions and clumsiness, it's hard not to admire The Spirit Indestructible, for it is that rare thing: a major-label album that bears the unmistakably messy, human stamp of an artist.
Slant Magazine: 70 Whether her strategy is to sing-song her way beyond the abrasive edges or to conversely turn her voice into an even more abrasive element, Furtado makes it all work.
The Guardian: 60 There's a fair bit of "positivity" gloop, such as Believers (Arab Spring), but not enough to ruin a decent album.

^ Metacritic messed up with the All Music Guide review. It's posted twice. If we take out one, it's average would be 62. Glad to see thart Los Angeles Times gave "The Spirit Indestructible" 3.5 out of 4 points.

This album is flawless really. There are really no radio hits there since she went for such a unique sound that's apart from everything that's been playing on the radio.
Still, I don't get why her label just pretty much dumped the album? Even with no radio hits, with a decent promotion, she could easily sell 100k+ first week. This is gonna flop harder than Folklore and it's such a damn shame!

Yeah and what I find strange is someone like alanis who has not been relevant in a mainstream sense for a decade can still open top 5 and no. 1 worldwide and Nelly can't do top ?? Why has one been able to create a loyal fan base and other not. I don't understand as I'm a fan of both these women.
