Has a CD ever charted with only 4 tracks before? That's pretty much a maxi single.

Aww that sucks for Rihanna. Disapointed, Was hoping for a #1, and at least 250 k, but it will have great longevity :)
Nice to see all thoes albums above 100k! And wow at Jackie Evancho, wasn't expecting that.

I think Rih is gonna struggle to go platinum only bc shes released 2 hits already...at least Rated R has Rude Boy towards the end

I think she will sell over a million. What's My Name is smashing and that will keep this album selling throughout the holiday season. It will definitely sell more than Rated R.
wow at Jackie Evancho she completely slipped under my radar. Where did she come from ?

I got a tweet back from Hits Daily Double:
HITSDD @adamfsoybel good looking out. yes, Glee Xmas will do 150-160k half a minute ago via web
There's your ninth 100k+ entry. That's in the same range as their Journey To Regionals EP, and a little less than Volume 2.

Aww that sucks for Rihanna. Disapointed, Was hoping for a #1, and at least 250 k, but it will have great longevity :) It will sell decently in the next 6 weeks, but from January onwards I wouldn't expect any big numbers regardless of how many hits she scores. It's clear she does not appeal to the elusive album-loving crowd. What's funny is that people expected Katy Perry to be 'established' with her 2nd album while it turns out it doesn't make Rihanna any more 'established' that she started 3 years prior Katy. Rihanna is better off releasing singles and EPs only after this.

You all are acting as if 180-190k is a bad number, in this climate and with more hit singles to keep the album selling, it will no doubt cross 1 mil like all of her other albums (bar her debut)
When she starts selling 30k-40k debuts like some of these urban/R&B chart stars then maybe she should consider going the route of EPs but as long as she's clearing a million with every album she's doing fine.

Good job Susan.
I knew Taylor would still do well.
Rihanna is always a consistent seller.
Not surprised at Pink (greatest hits after all), Nelly or Lee.

I haven't listened to one song on her CD. I don't own either of her CD's or any of her singles. Yet I'm happy for Susan continuing to defy wishes she disappear. LOL
Rihanna is at least consistent. Maybe she'll never have a 250k or 300k opening like her fans would like but she's managing to retain what she does have several years later.

It's not bad but with 2 smash singles it's a little disapointing. Rihanna is one of the top females in the game. She's had 5 albums, 8#1 singles and her star just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I never expected 500k plus(based on her selling history)but with 2 singles burning up the chart, promo, and the fact Rihanna is the hottest chick in the game atm I'm alittle upset. I mean people bashed Katy's opening to know end, and there about the same. Either way longevity is key and Rih will have that. Platinum will be easy to get, and with a re-release I can see over 1.5-2 Mill.

Thanks for getting the clarification, Adam. HITS added this to the article:
Columbia has yet another Glee entry, with the Christmas album hitting the street, slated for between 150-160k.

I mean she did have 3 top 10 hits from Rated R.

Although had this era been in place of Rated R, her sales would probably be much greater. RR definitely put a damper in the ascent of her career and slowed things down a bit but at least she's not showing signs of a decline and in the end, this era will most likely recapture where she left off with GGGB.

Platinum will be easy to get, and with a re-release I can see over 1.5-2 Mill. True, but Rihanna's opening numbers were dissected and dismissed with her release last year. After that album failed to match large opening expectations I think few expected this one to open higher. In Rihanna's case she's meeting expectations this time. If Katy opens with similiar figures for her next album she won't experience the same backlash she did this time.

Rihanna IS disappointing when her music is constantly on the airwaves and on television. She truly is just a singles artist. Nelly doesn't surprise me, he's not selling cds anymore that's for sure. Now for a band like A Day to Remember, 60K is great since the only people buying their cd is their core fan-base; not many mainstream buys there.

I mean she did have 3 top 10 hits from Rated R. 2 of those top 10's were blips on the charts though, especially the 1st single. When "Rude Boy" came out, RR was steadily in the top 20 and it would have kept on selling at a decent rate had they not killed the era with "Rockstar 101".

Maybe people just don't want to buy a Rihanna album, they'd rather spend $1.29 on a single.

I don't care what Rihanna's album sells- just when she's going to give us a break from hearing her on the airwaves. Between her own albums and the featurings, the non-mega fans could be Rihanna-ed out.
The numbers for Glee Christmas are impressive- but so much for Ryan Murphy wanting to lessen the album releases this season. A Vol. 4 is out in just a couple of weeks. lol

Keith Urban's first week draw looks great, considering "Defying Gravity" debuted with 171,000 copies and had the added benefit of debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200, whereas this may not even debut in the top five given this is most of the most competitive debut chart weeks in all memory to me.
Rascal Flatts, not so much. "Unstoppable" debuted with about 351,000 units sold, and that was also a step down from their two previous album eras. And considering the heavy promotion they've went about for this record, I consider their projected figures a disappointment.

There have been "Super Tuesdays" before- but, is this week even being touted as a "Super Tuesday"? I haven't seen it as such.
HITS said Springsteen's box set sold 22K in the first day- where did it come up with such precise info?

On a side note, I'm baffled to the response regarding Rihanna's latest.
She's never had a blow-out debut sales week. Ever. "Good Girl Gone Bad" was elevated by "Umbrella", but even then she didn't sell 200,000 units or above its first week of release. With that era's first-week figures totaling at 168,000, and "Rated R" at 181,000, her expected debut range is consistent with her chart history...........which is especially impressive given that the decline in record sales has only deepened.
Relax. This is a more than respectable debut and, especially should "S&M" become a third hit for her along with one or two additional tracks, this should sell as well as "Rated R" at worst, and in-between her previous two eras at best.

Between her own albums and the featurings, the non-mega fans could be Rihanna-ed out. You nailed it. She'd have a huge (400k) opening if she didn't release something new all the time. People who don't follow charts and business don't know where one era ends and another begins.
