While it is notable that Rihanna's opening sales look like they won't be too much higher than Janet Jackson's Discipline, on the bright side, Rihanna's album undoubtedly will end up selling more.

Lol. No one talks about our Idol winner, Lee. At least when Kris flopped, many people still talked about him. Where are all people who voted for him? We need a female winner for sure.

How in the world could it be be determined already that Loud doesn't have "the legs"? Call me crazy, but I think an album has to be around for a certain amount of time before that can be determined. :)

I cannot imagine they would allow another Lee to win for this season. It may backfire or end up worse, but you can bet they will be gunning for a real star this season.

If you look at history, there's plenty of examples of artists releasing hit albums on the heels of their previous album. Yup. The Beatles, anyone? Back then, artists would release like two albums or more per year.

Idol will need to have a girl win next, or the shows over. They can still bring in some viewers this year b/c of the new judges but if i guy wins that hype will be gone. I will stop watching idol if another guy wins, and i will glady give x factor a chance, hoping for a group to win the first season

rihanna's sales are fine. 1. she could make it over 200k with luck. 2. last year she released the biggest sales week of the year, yet this might beat it. 3. theres been a 13% sales decline this year, yet shes guna sell the same or better than last year.
rihanna is more than fine, and i doubt her record label is dissapointed like someone suggested

It comes w/ more than 4 songs though. It's a CD/DVD package From Amazon: The DVD features Jackie’s performances from "America’s Got Talent" including the audition tape that landed Jackie her spot on AGT. It also includes an interview with Jackie filmed the week following the show’s finale. DVD Track Listing: 1. Panis Angelicus (Youtube Audition) 2. O Mio Babbino Caro 3. Time To Say Goodbye 4. Pie Jesu 5. Ave Maria 6. An Interview With Jackie oooOOooOOoo, t4p. I might buy this after all. Jackie = HBIC

Eleven titles will likely debut in next week's Top 15. In what looks like the kick-off to the holiday season, nine of the Top 10 titles will finish the week with a total north of 100k. For the same week last year, ending 11/22, only six titles sold in the six digits with a couple just shy of hitting that mark. Overall volume in the Top 15 could be up by as much as 300k vs. last year. Here's how it looks as we head into the last weekend before Thanksgiving.
Susan Boyle (Columbia) 300-325k *Jackie Evancho (Columbia) 240-260k *Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 185-195k *Rascal Flatts (Big Machine) 170-180k *Keith Urban (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 170-180k *Josh Groban (Reprise) 170-180k *Kid Rock (Atlantic) 160-170k *Glee Christmas (Columbia) 150-160k Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 150-160k Sugarland (Mercury Nashville) 55-60k *Nelly (Universal Motown) 55-60k Jason Aldean (Broken Bow) 50-55k *A Day To Remember (Victory) 50-55k *Bruce Springsteen (Columbia) 45-50k *Pink (LaFace/JLG) 45-50k Now 36 (Capitol/EMI) 45-50k *Debuts (11/18p)

Rihanna might get that 200k afterall. Rooting for her. 150k would be nice for Taylor, but she is falling really short to be in contention with Eminem for bestselling of the year. I hope she has enough to go past Bieber and Lady Antebellum. Top 3 for third consecutive (recordbreaking) year would be amazing!

Taylor needs to be doing closer to 200k if she wants to challenge for #1 of 2010.

i just realized. people were thinking rihanna might have trouble debuting top 5 b/c of her competition. and no one saw the number 2 girl coming. so rihanna is selling better than most acts, that people thought were go sell better than her

Taylor will not have the best-selling album of the year. I'd say Taylor will be ending the year with somewhere between 2.6-3.0 million copies and ranking behind Eminem and Lady Antebellum on the year-end list. Regardless, that will still be quite the impressive accomplishment.

SuBo's drop like less than 1%? That's amazing, and it's not even after Thanksgiving yet. At this rate, she'll sell 750k the week before xmas, or even more.

The week before Christmas would be week ending 12/19- holiday albums usually peak before then, but maybe SuBo can buck the trend.
Andrea Bocelli's holiday album was released one week prior to SuBo's in the comparable time frame last year. Here is how his album fared:
11/21/09 chart (week ending 11/8): 148,527 11/28/09 chart (week ending 11/15): 136,125 12/5/09 chart (week ending 11/22): 184,791 12/12/09 chart (week ending 11/29): 217,569 (Thanksgiving week) 12/19/09 chart (week ending 12/6): 428,351 12/26/09 chart (week ending 12/13): 400,433 1/2/10 chart (week ending 12/20): 389,899 1/9/10 chart (week ending 12/27): 284,000 (Christmas week) 1/16/10 chart (week ending 1/3/10): 17,768 (2.207 million up to that point)

I'm kinda afraid for Taylor. Her numbers are good, but isn't her week to week drop is a bit high? I'm afraid that at this rate she'd sell less than she should...

Taylor should be fine once "Back to December" starts getting some significant airplay. Right now "Mine" is dying very fast, BTD hasn't really gotten started (they waited to long to release it IMO), and the general hype of "OMG new Taylor album" has subsided now. But as with her last two albums, if she keeps putting out stellar singles (which we know she has on this new album), she'll sell consistently for a very long time, and as they say, slow and steady wins the race.
