Wow, Nicki! What was the highest first week sales and the best selling female rapper album? Missy Elliot's Under Construction? I want to know this too.

GO WEST: Looks like Kanye West and Nicki Minaj will go 1-2 on next week’s HITS album chart. West’s much-acclaimed Roc-A-Fella/IDJ release My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy hit the streets yesterday and looks now like it will break 500k. Meanwhile, Susan Boyle’s The Gift keeps on giving. This week, the Columbia album will repeat at #1, down only about 10-15% from last week’s total of 321k. With Black Friday looming, though, these numbers could all change, so stay tuned. (11/23p)

Great for Kanye, he might open higher than his last album
as for Nicki, her album wont hold up over time but she marketed it well to tie it into black friday so Im not surprised that her 1st week will be good

Wow, Nicki! What was the highest first week sales and the best selling female rapper album? Missy Elliot's Under Construction? There's been arguments about whether it should be considered a rap album or not, but if you consider it one, then The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is the highest selling female rap album. It's 8x platinum and opened up w/ 422, 624. If you don't consider it one, then Under Construction is probably the highest selling female rap album since it sold 2.1 million. The only other female rap album I could find that even went 2x platinum is Eve's debut. Lil' Kim's Notorious K.I.M. had the highest first week sales for a female rap album at the time of its release in 2000. It sold 230k its opening week. I couldn't find Under Construction's opening numbers so I don't know if Missy broke Lil' Kim's record. It would be hilarious if Lil' Kim has that record and Nicki ends up stealing it.

Salt N Pepa's "Very Necessary" album went 4X Platinum, but since they were a duo/trio, they sort of don't count.

It'll hold up just fine throughout the holiday season & beyond.

So if the predictions hold true, she should beat Missy Elliot's opening week record. It'll be interesting to see if she can reach 2x platinum. If she does, she'll be 1 of only 3 female solo rappers to do so.

I think it was nominated for rap categories at the Grammy's right?
Well, hopefully she can doing 422K+ and I think that this will hold up quite well over the holidays with her selling about 400k more in December on top of the 200k that she will sell next week. I call platinum by end of December/early January.

I think it was nominated for rap categories at the Grammy's right? The album didn't but I believe 'Lost Ones' was nominated for 'Best Rap Solo Performance'; however, songs such as Ex-Factor, To Zion, etc. don't feature any rapping. That's why there's people that argue that it's not a full-on rap album since not all the songs feature rapping.

no offense to the nicki lovers out there, but it would be a damn shame if she opens up with more than lauryn hill. "miseducation" was one of the best albums of all time. i know nicki wont win the the long run, but still. great for her though, i hope she sells 1 million at least.

When's the last time such a critically acclaimed album topped half a million first week? Bow to the King.

I doubt Nicki will be that high. I think her day one was really high and then a huge fall off.

Surprised HITS didn't do a One-Day report today for the major titles, since all the releases were released Monday.

I hope Kesha can have a respectable number. Like, Lady Gaga re-release numbers would be excellent

I'm not sure why anyone is surprised that Nicki will surpass Rihanna's first week sales. That was obviously going to happen. I want her to beat Kanye.

That she can just cross 200k and it is her highest first week sales I can't. If Nicki pulls 400k then I will be happy. I hope that by year end she can pull of 800k plus so that she can focus on getting double platinum next year. She clearly has singles on this album that will sell the album throughout...Moment for life my least favorite out of the obvious single choices, save me, fly, blazin

Kanye told the crowd last night at his Bowery Ballroom concert in NYC that he sold 100K the first day alone digitally and that the record will sell over 600K the first week. He also said that his album sold out at the Best Buy in downtown Chicago. He also mentioned that he did know he had no radio hit single and he's still gonna sell 600K the first week. I'm sure he's keeping tabs on his sales for sure.

Has there been any indication on what they're expecting the top ten and new releases to sell yet? I'm interested in seeing how much the Burlesque soundtrack sells.
