I just don't think Avril has much of an audience anymore, a lot of people LIKE "What the Hell" but I can't see that many buying her album, most of her fans that bought Let Go have moved on

Aw jeez. That is not good. The album Lupe had to compromise to the max to put out, and had said he's dissatisfied with on at least some level, and everyone (except here I guess?) is saying is an absolute disaster...and Atlantic gets rewarded for it. And this is only continuing the trend B.O.B started. Major labels really are toxic for hip hop. I dunno... it seems naive to say the trend "started" with B.o.B.'s album, because it's not like it's the first time majors have done compromise, which has happened pretty much throughout time with the industry. Also, the songs on the album aren't that bad and that's what matters most. It does seem like the negative response has kind of taken a toll on the total numbers.. but it's still above what I could have expected.

I believe this is Japan only (or mostly) because it was released on Monday worldwide.

^Reported as just over 250K back in late November. So by now, probably around 265K? Adele's album looks like it will enjoy some legs. Wow. I thought Bionic was passed that. Crazy that she has barely sold what a lot predicted her to do opening week. Her hits album is right under 400k isn't it? I can't believe it's been years since she last had an album sell over 500k. RCA better not continue this streak wit Kelly's next album.

Well, considering both AIEW and MD didn't even reach 1m, I think it's going to take major promotion and a solid string of hit singles to get her to sell well too.

Maybe she'll pull a Susan Boyle and reach those levels of sales with no hit single at radio, and I'd say she has even more chances (her single is selling well, something not even SuBo was able to do, but I think that at the current rate, she'll sell around 2m when all is said, unless it gets major Grammy love (which is very likely, at least for the Pop field)

Wonder how Avril's album is selling outside the US, I think she may have a more durable international fanbase (including Canada, of course). But she has reached something of a crossroads with her image/audience. She can't be a bratty teenager forever, she's not going to go electro-dance, and I don't see her surviving commercially by doing emo acoustic material. I have to think her only real way forward as a commercial artist is to rock harder. I'd have said that she should try to emulate P!nk, who has found an image and sound that go well with maturity, but this album seems like it was a deliberate effort to imitate Funhouse (all the way down to working with Max Martin and the theme of the lead single), and it's not selling. Ew, just because she works with Mark Maxtin doesn't mean she/RCA's trying to deliberate effort to imitate Funhouse and her single is still selling well. I'm not sure about GL's fate but the album is still holding on itunes . Not sure if this is a good sign . This is so frustrating.

And it continues to climb on all 5 formats. :) I can see it selling the album really well as when her hype dies down a bit, the radio play for RITD will help the album sell. ^^

I wonder if R.E.M. or Sara Evans will get that #5 spot on the Billboard chart? Only 160 copies or so separate their positions.

...I have to think her only real way forward as a commercial artist is to rock harder. I'd have said that she should try to emulate P!nk, who has found an image and sound that go well with maturity... I don't know about this. I don't think Avril can rock harder, she has that teenage voice. WTH is still a success, it's not dead yet and most importantly it's selling well which kind of highlights that people are still interested in that kind of material from Avril. My opinion of her album is that too much of it sounds the same and that very little of it is exceptional. I passed on buying the album but bought 2 singles. WTH was not one of them.
