It's the feeling of getting a good deal and impulse buying. What amazon is doing with this album is no different. Exactly. I only like 6 songs on the album, but .99 was just too good of a deal to pass up.

I didn't feel guilty for illegally downloading the album & I thought two of the songs were worth the .99 I payed for them. & like tsw2008 previously said, it really was an impulse purchase. Before I knew it I was downloading the album.

Plus there's a difference between buying twice the number of paper towels that you would have otherwise bought and buying an album you have no intention to listen to. Watch the clip posted above by "Fame Hooker" (*DEAD*). Paper Towels I can understand but people buy s**t they absolutely don't need. It's the feeling of getting a good deal and impulse buying. What amazon is doing with this album is no different. I'm aware of extreme couponing. I still feel the same way. If you told me if I buy 2 cases of paper towels, I get a third free, and I have a buy one get one free coupon, I would probably buy the 3 cases of paper towels for the price of one even if it's going to take me months to use them. If you're going to offer me an album I have no interest in for 90% off, I'm still not going to buy it. It's not like I'm ever going to get any use out of it.

^But what if you like even just one song? It would already be worth it, and I'm sure most people like at least one.

If this had been a Kenny Chesney album & I liked a song of his on an album that was on sale for .99 for one day, I'd purchase it. It's the thrilling aspect of having the opportunity to purchase an album for less than $1 for only one day. A brilliant marketing decision.

I don't think anyone will be shocked if this sells upwards of 1 million. I would be more shocked if she didn't, with all the promotion going on. Or as local radio said today..Gagy calling radio stations..doing her interviews and begging people to buy her album.

Hasn't Target previously sold some physical albums they've had overstocked for like a dollar or two dollars? At the end of the day, as obscene as a discount is, its entirely the outlet's decision and they were obviously using Gaga's huge appeal/interest to be the vehicle to promote their streaming or cloud service. Controversial or not they will be the one that sees the negative (or positive) financial impact of starting with that massive of a loss

Sounds like that radio station is pressed they didn't get her for an interview tbh. Anywho, lol @ 'impulse buying' being the new excuse for why this might sell well. Couldn't we say other artists albums/singles on discount could have sold for the exact same reason? Bit of a moot point. Keep reaching though.

And so entertaining!
Here in Finland Spotify is offering a free trial for Premium and they have BTW avalaible on Premium only atm.
Is that cheating/Gaga's fault/unacceptable/a sign of desperation or perhaps all those four?

Seems you're the one taking things personally, boo. Pressed that your fave couldn't shift as many albums as GodGa is going to, even if they offered them for free? :'( Thought so.
If an album is still selling for .99 for several days because of widely available coupons taking off a few dollars, that's hardly any different than what is going on right now. Funny (or not surprising) how you miss the point entirely though -- a deal or discount doesn't necessarily have a minimum -- if people are 'only buying this cause it's a cheap deal' surely some would do that for other artists too.
Here's a tip; if you hate GaGa as much as you appear to, she can do without your dollar or whatever it is income you and your fave make annually now.
Ch , the lengths some of you are going to to try bring her down are hilarious.

www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news08551m01AMAZON DAILY DEAL HAS GAGA SKYROCKETING Born This Way Looking Like the Biggest Debut in Ages…but Just How Big…? May 24, 2011 Did Amazon MP3’s unexpected and unprecedented sale of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way for 99 cents cause the release to break the digital download record of 288k set by Coldplay’s Viva la Vida in 2008? We don’t know—at least not yet. Not surprisingly, Amazon.com was snowed under with orders for their excusive, knocking all their servers down for a chunk of time, and causing the company to issue an apology while also assuring all those who ordered a digital copy that they’d get one. Insiders are applauding Amazon for the loss-leader move, which is seen as a way of promoting its new cloud service. The question remains, will SoundScan count the 99-cent downloads in its total for Gaga? The online retail giant has yet to reveal the total number of downloads it sold Monday in its highest-profile Daily Deal ever, not even to the Wall Street Journal’s Ethan Smith. But Smith and co-writer John Kell turned to another form of measurement in their coverage this morning: the number of customer reviews posted. On Monday afternoon, when they checked the iTunes Store, which is selling the regular version at $11.99 and $15.99 for the deluxe, the reporters counted “nearly 13,000 reviews of the album's two different configurations. Amazon users, by contrast, had posted fewer than 300 reviews, split roughly equally between favorable and unfavorable. Most of the negative reviews focused on complaints about the inability to download all 14 songs.” Today, and presumably for the rest of the week, Amazon MP3 is selling Born This Way downloads for $6.99, still significantly undercutting iTunes. Interscope label chief Steve Berman's thorough campaign has the record blowing out everywhere, with first-week sales estimates ranging from 750k to a high of a million. Our latest guesstimate puts the number in the neighborhood of 900k. In other Gaga sales news, sources report that Walmart, among other brick-and-mortar retailers, violated street date by selling the album over the weekend, with estimates of more than 10k moved including non-Walmart violations, meaning the release could end up debuting on this week’s HITS Top 50 sales chart this afternoon. And Target, which was supposed to sell an exclusive version of Born This Way, won’t now because of the chain's apparent support of anti-gay marriage legislation.

LOL my god, this is such a big ole mess. Just shows how overrated and pressed the industry is right now trying to push Lady Gaga to the ~top in any way possible. I just can't lmao

No, that is with SoundScan. This is HITS. They have a different way of compiling their chart. Walmart must not have given HITS GaGa's SDV numbers.

Yeah, but HITS would report it either way. The album at #50 sold 9,400 copies. If the estimates were off and it sold 9k in violations, it wouldn't show in the Top 50.

Is that meant to be behavior of a fan or something nowdays? O my bad.
How about you reread it, then actually contribute to discussion instead of post catty responses?
Thanks for playing though.
Don't worry, I'm sure GaGa will have some promo for her next album where you and hilary can get a free copy when you collect your food stamps together. LOL :)

Chartwatchers should be thrilled. She and Adele are helping the overall sales climate, further pushing the year-to-date sales change into the positive.
