Nicki does sing but her album contains only one track that is purely a singing track ("Save Me"), although she sings the choruses on at least half of the album's songs. Like jazzysoul said, Pink Friday is by far considered much more of a rap album than Miseducation, so she would be the first female rapper to achieve that feat. It's interesting to see that Man Down is performing better at radio than CKB but the opposite is true on iTunes. Nope, Lauryn Hill achieved that feat back in the 90's although I agree with Nicki's album being more of a rap album than Lauryn's.

Dont' forget Salt and Pepa's "Shoop" which was the first rap single to ever hit #1 in the history of the BB HOT 100 Airplay Chart. "Shoop" only peaked at #2 on Hot 100 Airplay.

Does it not count because she is white?

Apart from anything else, The Dutchess didn't even get to #1, and the conversation is about who will be the first female rapper to have a #1 single and album.

RIHANNA - California King Bed: 16.690 (=) Wow, no movement at all? When was the last time a song had an update of +0.000? it happens a lot, though it is unusual for a song with over 10m AI.

Since Nicki is tour with Britney until the summer I suspect she will spend the fall finalizing her next album. Not sure she should hop on another tour Lil wayne, Britney...the next should be a headline tour herself. With that, I think if they put her album out in March/April she can score another #1 album...now that they got their feet wet with Pink Friday they know she is accepted in the pop crowd. now they can put out more pop/commercial songs right away instead of the split rhythmic/pop thing this era. If they play their cards right the 1st single off of the new record could hit #1 along with the album.

"Shoop" only peaked at #2 on Hot 100 Airplay. It hit #1 during and unpublished chart or the week after because it helped them re enter the top ten Regardless, the amount of stations contributing to the Hot 100 Airplay chart was much smaller, and it did not even include Urban airplay. Whatever "Shoop" accumulated would have been from CHR/Pop and Rhythmic stations. "Super Bass" has CHR/Pop, Rhythmic, and Urban contributing to its audience total. Also the rise in popularity of Urban and especially Rhythmic stations over the years has contributed to higher overall audience impressions in the past decade than in the 90s.

With MLJ going top 10 this week, Xtina joins a small group that had a top 10 hit in 3 decades, another legend like Mariah hasn't even done that yet. :'(

who another artis that had 3 top 10 singles in 3 decades? and, are britney and usher the only 2 artist that had #1 song in 3 decades? There are six artists who had a #1 in 3 consecutive decades. Men: Stevie Wonder, MJ, Usher Women: Madonna, Janet, Britney I'd also like to know which artists managed a top ten for three decades.

Off the top of my head J-Lo and Enrique already did the same this year and last year. I'm sure there are many more when you look in the past decades too

Another diva to do so was Whitney, many top tens in the 80s and 90s and then "Star Spangled Banner" reached the top ten in 2001 upon a post-9/11 re-release

What about the Beatles? They had Free As a Bird hit #9 I think in the 90's. Maybe 5 decades?

Needless to say though that the record isn't particularly rare. An achievement but hardly unique.

Rappers Jay-Z and Doctor Dre have achieved it
Aerosmith, Queen (with a re-release in the 90s) as well, sure there are many more

This list is not complete but it has a lot of them.
4 decades Aerosmith (70s, 80s, 90s, 00s) Cher (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s) Michael Jackson (70s, 80s, 90s, 00s) Barbra Streisand (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s)

There won't be any 5 decade artists for sure
The record for longest span of top 40s was set earlier this year by Michael Jackson (1972-2011); so no one did it at a top 10 level.

That's nice that Xtina has a top 10 in 3 decades, but if you really look at it, it's a 12-year span, not nearly as impressive as it sounds. For someone who began their career in 1970/80/90/2000, it will be a lot harder to achieve than someone who started their career in 1999.

There won't be any 5 decade artists for sure Michael Jackson or even Aerosmith could conceivably have a top 10 hit over the next few years. Not the most likely of scenarios, but stranger things have happened.

Prediction based on my sales estimates and airplay trend
1. Party Rock Anthem (239 + 111 = 350) 2. Give Me Everything (181 + 140 = 321) 3. Rolling In The Deep (142 + 160 = 302) 4. Last Friday Night (193 + 85 = 278) 5. Super Bass (160 + 91 = 251) 6. The Edge Of Glory (114 + 100 = 214) 7-8. How To Love (118 + 60 = 178) 7-8. E.T. (78 + 100 = 178) 9-10. Tonight Tonight (123 + 42 = 165) 9-10. Good Life (102 + 62 = 164) 11. Dirt Road Anthem (116 + 45 = 161) 12. The Lazy Song (82 + 70 = 152) 13-15. I'm On One (86 + 61 = 147) 13-15. The Show Goes On (74 + 73 = 147) 13-15. Stitch By Stitch (145) 16. Just Can't Get Enough (53 + 90 = 143) 17. Honey Bee (91 + 50 = 141) 18. Don't Wanna Go Home (84 + 51 = 135) 19. Inventing Shadows (131) 20. Moves Like Jagger (117 + 5 = 122) Motivation (61 + 57 = 118) I Wanna Go (76 + 34 = 110) On The Floor (65 + 45 = 110) Knee Deep (68 + 40 = 108) Till The World Ends (49 + 57 = 106) Best Thing I Never Had (72 + 32 = 104) Look At Me Now (60 + 40? = 100) Just A Kiss (58 + 41 = 99) Remind Me (71 + 27 = 98)
The iTunes popbars (which I use to estimate sales) were glitchy this week so it might not be as accurate as the past two weeks, particularly for The Voice songs.
